The achievements are just for beating the game (1 for each difficulty), and collecting all the cards (can be obtained even after beating the game). It's not a difficult 1000 but you have to play 3 times.

If you check the scathing IGN review for Deadly Premonition, go to the comments section and look at all the people saying that the reviewer just "doesn't get it."

Good question.  It's not coming out in Japan, right?  So that should increase the chances of it being region-free I'd think.

EDIT: Other Square Enix games are listed as region-locked, so perhaps not.

Spent all day installing Win7 and having nothing work right.  At the end of the day it seems to be working ok now, but I wonder why I upgraded:

Shattered Horizon - runs awful
Bioshock 2 - runs slightly smoother
Red Faction G - runs slightly worse
Movies - run worse, don't seem to be taking advantage of the gpu; just barely hanging in there with ffdshow filters on 720/1080
Computer stuff - Pin bar is nice, but a lot of little things are worse now.  No Japanese language support for W7 Pro wtf, guess I am not typing in kanji for the next 5 years :\

So yeah, uh, I wish I hadn't upgraded :\  Wasn't worth an 14 hour effort, and now everything is about the same or worse and the only plus is I can play Shattered Horizon but it runs like shit and isn't very fun.  Yay.  Just Cause 2 PC version better be fuck awesome and make it upgrading worth it.

Chime. It's nice, but I don't know how to get out of FREE MODE without actually quitting. Philip Glass music in a game is super sweet.

Is that the 400pt music/tetris/charity thing?  I've been thinking of buying that, enjoyed the demo a couple of times now.

Yes. It's really nice; the other music choices are good as well. Definitely worth the 5 bucks, it's a total chill-out game.

Been playing COD:WaW from Gamefly. Not a bad game. Not as good as the IW games but fun enough. The scripting is uneven. Some levels are quite fun and some are annoying. The multiplayer is better than I expected except for the spawning aspect. It uses a very aggressive near squad spawning logic which often puts you too close to the other team when you spawn. Other than that its fairly enjoyable. The maps are surprisingly good although to get any games you are almost required to buy some of the map packs.

The music is pretty great. I generally tire of WW 2 themed orchestra music (and WW 2 games in general) but this mixed in more modern music into the mix but its still appropriate. I'm not into zombie mode or any of these survival modes like the one in ODST, or Gears 2, as I prefer something objective based like Spec Ops mode but I appreciate how all the modes whether its co-op campaign, or the zombie stuff have online matchmaking.

I'm sending it back soon. I would play the MP more, but between  Bad Company 2 and MW 2, I really don't have time for another MP shooter.

I found that the game gets easier as you progress.  Especially if you use the broken classes--Hexer and Dark Hunter.

I hated that they made the six stratum only accessible by completing certain quests.  I gave up on the bonus stratum because of that.  The quest systems in both EOs suck big time

Why the hell does Dragon Age PC run so well?  I mean it doesn't look great, but it doesn't look terrible either.  Just feels so odd when I can max it out with tons of AA and never drop from 60fps, and then I play Shattered Horizon which looks worse on low settings and is barely hanging in at 30fps.  Or Mass Effect 1 which can't even hold 60fps with no AA in the Citadel.

That is...if SH worked anymore for me.  Starting today the game doesn't even load!   :lol

Oh well, back to Deadly Premonition which is amazing & DQVI which is pretty nice.

Finished all the single player achievements in Jetpac Refuelled and N+. Jetpac is awesome, aside from the almost-invisible enemies (WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS). Took me a little while to clear all 16 stages in the classic Jetpac for the achievement as well. 128 stages might have been a bit much though.

Didn't really care for N+, but it's worth the $5 I payed for it, I guess.

Hmmmm....

I have two available Gamefly slots.

And the following three weeks are:

3/9 FF 13
3/16 Metro 2033
3/23 Just Cause 2

Not sure which two to add because the reality is that I won't be able to finish all three of these in a timely manner especially FF 13.

Dilemma. One shall fall to quote Optimus...

Yeah, I'd give it a shot at the asking price.  Personally I think the combat sections are boring because it's a D- RE4 clone, but the non-combat stuff is actually a really fun adventure game/life sim.

I don't mind them that much because yeah, you just run quickly through them and the combat is super easy if you do have to fight.  But they are the low points of the game so far imo.  I'm loving everything else.  Especially the conversations in the car, lolol.

last question about Deadly Premonition for Demi or Bebpo.  Is it the type of janky game that requires a strategy guide to get through? like, do you ever just get stuck because or poor design?

Umm... SH uses way fancier graphics than DA.

Shattered Horizons is one of the most hardware intensive games on PC (that isn't poorly optimized).  It's the first game from a company that is famous for making benchmarking tools and shit like that.  I drop a lot of settings for it to run better, and it doesn't scale well at all.  Shadows are downright ugly even at the balanced/medium setting.

No, the game is pretty straightforward. I guess you could use a guide for the sidequests and trading cards, but x360a has both covered. You can even replay chapters when you beat the game, to collect all the trading cards for the achievement.

Laddering in the Starcraft 2 beta. What's weird is that if I move up, say, 10 more slots in my silver division, I'd be at about the same ELO as people in the exact same position (say, 10th) in the Platinum divisions.

My lack of mechanics are going to catch up with me at some point, good build orders and actually having, well, a plan when playing a game have served me well.

Eh, I got SH working again last night and I really don't understand why it's so intensive.  It just seems poorly optimized.  Even maxed, the game doesn't look that great.  JC2, Crysis, a lot of other games look way better.  Also because of the architecture of the space station you really need at least 4x AA or the game is jaggy ugly even at 1080p.  I ended up just playing it on my HDTV @ 720p so I could get most of the settings maxed w/4x AA at 30fps.

It's a fun game, but I think it just runs like shit and shouldn't considering its looks.

I think a lot of it has to do with the physics calculations, lighting, etc.  I disagree that it's a bad looking game when the settings are turned up, but like I said, I think it is one of the worst scaling games I've played in recent memory.  Again, it is a game from a company who formally made benchmarking tools.  It is a bit of a shame because I enjoy the game.  It reminds me of Gundam space battles, actually.

Yeah, once I got the hang of it I found it really cool gameplay-wise.  Too bad there's only about 1 server worth of people online at any time.

When I upgrade my 3d card I'll come back to it if anyone is still playing.  I think this game would benefit from an XBLA release.  Would have more people playing and I think the controls fit a gamepad.
Either that or it needs to be published by Valve so it can have a thriving community like TF2.  Although I figure the tiny community comes from the high hardware reqs + no XP support.

MGS4 - Still trekking through this - Act 4 done now. Finally almost done with this.

Tekken 6 - It's more Tekken.  That is all that needs to be said about it.  I remember getting hyped and playing Tekken Tag Tournament for hours on end when it was on the PS2.  Plus dat Tekken Bowl :hyper  A decade later and Tekken just feels the same to me.  The graphics are better but the game doesn't really do anything for me these days.  I still am able to spam the button masher friendly combos of Law and Jack but when I tried to dig deeper into the game, I realized that I had no interest in this whatsoever.  I'm not sure trying to get into the combo system and little tweaks and adjustments are worth it for this game.  I'll noodle around in the main mode (I forget what it is called, the game is that forgettable) and send it back to Gamefly.

Red Faction: Guerrilla
- I like what I've been playing so far.  The open world mission based gameplay is appealing and doesn't take itself seriously.  I've pretty much just been using my hammer and explosives.  Running up to an enemy soldier and beating him with a hammer is entertaining.  Same goes for destroying an entire building with a few whacks of the hammer.  Plus the collect-a-thon aspect of knocking down various structures so the other side would lose support is fun enough for me to keep playing.  The missions seem kind of run of the mill but whatever.  There's enough in the game to make me keep playing, at least for a little while longer.

After playing the second ME, I don't know if I will ever be able to play the original again... combat was just way too clunky, enemies moved much faster than you turn, and most of the time you couldn't even see what you were firing at. The sequel vastly improves on the combat, although I wish there were a bit more variety in the missions so far.

I enjoyed the Monster Hunter demo. It's surprisingly ghetto in a lot of ways (small rooms with loading in between, cumbersome menu system, etc.) and combat is rather clunky but I really dig monster the animations and the boss fight focused approach. Plus the difficulty is really fun.

I'll definitely be purchasing this one.

Oh yeah, I heard about that.  I barely visit GS, though.  I stick with Amazon.

Had a HUGE scare during Deadly Premonition. Opened a door and my character just disappears into a sea of nothingness. I'm tweaking cause I havent saved in a while (DUR), but York suddenly dies, so I get to continue and run to a payphone. Holy moly.

The hover boots in Ratchet are awesome.
I am an impatient gamer so I always appreciate when developers give me the ability to ZOOM through their levels & the game.  Between the boots and the thrusters for the plane, traveling is going to be very, very painless in Crack in Time.

Also that Miner city on Torren IV looked pretty damn nice for the Ratchet engine.  Too bad it killed the framerate down to 30 or less, but still, it looked darn nice.

Tried the Monster Hunter Tri demo out, and yup, it's Monster Hunter.  Not sure if I would really end up playing this game if I got it.  Control is solid, frame rate is good, but the resolution is kind of weird.  Doesn't seem to be 480P but yet is not quite 480i either.  Maybe it's my TV.

Scenester and I ran Stilwater into the ground for several blissful hours today, finishing all missions in co-op. :rock

We played the ULTOR EXPOSED dlc as well, and it I'd paid for it, I'd feel a little ripped off. Oh, wait. I paid for it. :maf The Tera Patrick model is ugly and the lipsynch is nowhere near on par with the main stories. Nor is the writing. Which is really saying something -- it's impossible to follow what the heck is supposed to be happening with Tera Patrick, nanophysicist. Whatevs; the missions were fun, but nothing really new. Except the buggy helicopter ballet. THAT was pretty epic; they moved like Garry's Mod characters.

Volition quality control fail was back in effect as well; a 'cheev that was supposed to pop just for trying something, not winning, was awarded to Scenester but not to me, and the game killed him outright for no apparent reason other than to balance the books for the 'cheev.

Still: MORE FUN THAN GTA IV.
