Practically beat Batman: Arkham Asylum.  Only thing holding me back was:

spoiler (click to show/hide)
One more hit on Joker, according to a walkthrough.  I just got tired of missing the timing by a hair and having to fend off more enemies.
[close]

I thought the game was excellent.  Some people believed the end part of the game somewhat fell apart but I don't agree.  I found myself caring about the Riddler shit and collected enough.  Not enough to run back and get everything though.

The best part of the game were the little touches like Batman's tattering cape.  It would be what you'd expect from someone fighting off hundreds of enemies.  The story progression was nice and a such things like The Scarecrow's parts of the game were fuckamazing.

Off to Gamefly.  Back to Borderlands.

The only thing I felt was weak about the endgame was the boss fights.  Ivy plant sucked, Croc was a mini-game, Joker was ...you fighting henchmen.  I think they could've had more interesting big boss fights.  Otherwise, yeah the game is kickass :rock

Just bought a PS3, so I've been playing Uncharted a lot. Great game so far - gunplay's okay but the platforming is great. Can't wait to dive in more.

Is there a chance that SE will remake Dragon Quest 7 for the DS? Is it even possible? I assume with enough sales of their other DS remakes, they would. That'd be nice. Wouldn't have to hunt down a copy.

How does Sin & Punishment 1 run/play on a PC emu with a USB controller?  I got to like stage 3 on the cart, but never cleared it.  Don't want to hook up the N64 again.  I bought again on Wii VC but gave that Wii away.  Don't want to buy it on VC again.  So how about them emuss?

Hmmm, S&P1 had some neat parts but maaaaaaaaan is it outdated in everything after S&P2.  30fps or lower just feels WRONG after 60fps.  Also the dialogue is wtf.  I think I get the S&P1/2 story mostly now, but some of what they were trying to say in S&P1 is total gibberish.

Started playing DQ5 and Sims 3 in-between. I've never actually played a Sims game, I always just made a character or built an awesome house, but the actual gameplay is kinda tight. Of course, it's really tough to minmax for an entire fucking game, but I think I'll get the swing of things soon enough. Made a lesbian couple, one of whom in my mind is a younger Shepard from Mass Effect lololol

Playing Borderlands and I found two things with a mission I did not like at all:

spoiler (click to show/hide)
I'm fighting Moe and Marley, the two big skags.  I killed Marley a while back so I thought he was out of the way for me to kill Moe.  Well, I was wrong.  To make it even worse, after I ran out of ammo halfway through Moe (I killed Marley), Moe somehow respawned all of its his health!  This was complete bullshit.
[close]

I'll play other missions but once I get a replacement game from Gamefly once Arkham Asylum is turned in, I will probably send this one in.

I want more first person games that aren't shooters.  I dig first person brawlers and first person platformers, so I think there is a connection there.

I'm playing Silent Hill Wii and I'm really not feeling the chase sequences.  I thought the first one was fun and intense, but then the 2nd one in the huge woods was just me being totally lost and getting annoyed.  The game is like "pull out your gps to see where to head!" but uhhh I don't have time to stop and pull out my phone WHEN I'M BEING CHASED BY MONSTERS >_< >_<

Otherwise the game is alright.  The framerate when it's 60fps is pretty nice although the game is killing my gpu.  I get lines all over the screen pretty often but I just tell myself that's how silent hill is supposed to look since I don't want to spend $200 to replace my wii and all my other less-graphically intensive Wii games run without gpu glitches.  Would like to at least finish up SH, NMH2 and Renginleiv so I have a few months to wait for a good deal on a replacement wii before Galaxy 2/Metroid/Xenoblade come out.

DQVI is fun.  When I play classic DQ I feel like maybe I prefer the olden days of simple rpgs to modern ones.
Then I play non-DQ old rpgs and they are not so fun at all and I realize it's not the retro as much as DQ is just a very enjoyable series that hits the right notes.  After Arte Piazza finishes the remakes (maybe 7?) I'd really like for them to do a new mainline DQ.  I think it'd be great if they alternated mainline DQ titles between them and L5 because I prefer their DQs 100x over L5 DQs.

Playing a lot more Magic the Gathering XBLA and am very happy there are not booster packs available for it. Am still having trouble figuring out assigning Blockers and activating Creature Abilities. Other than that, it's nice to have a computer doing the bookkeeping, and the overwhelming nostalgia of shouting "LAAAAAND..." when you're 4 turns in and have only got 2 basic lands on the table is incredibly nostalgic.

Played Tekken 6 Online Scenario Campaign with Sho Nuff last night.  We went through all 10 stages (mostly on easy  :-[) and got some nice loot, plus a ton of cash.  Easily over 15 million gold after selling unwanted items, plus several achievements unlocked.  Good stuff!

I guess I'm about halfway through Silent Hill SM and...it's pretty good?
Maybe it shouldn't be surprising since I thought Climax did a fairly good job with Origins.

It's not as good as Team Silent's games, but as SILENT HILL NON-JAPANESE HORROR it's a pretty good game.  The mood and pacing is very nice.  The visuals are great outside the framerate (if they could have gotten locked 60fps this would been a GREAT looker; too bad about the unstableness).  The puzzles are totally different than Team Silent's style or even what they did with Origins (which copied TS's style) but they're fun on their own.  The story/characters are neat.  The only thing that really sticks out as weak besides the unstable framerate is the chase sequences.  In some ways they are good and intense but in other ways they are just annoying trial & error of finding the right path and they aren't scary after the first one because every enemy looks the same boring non-scary enemy style.  It's also held back a little because despite being mainly original in its plotting it's still SH1 and held back by that.

I'd like to see Climax UK do another SH based on this formula.  But this time do a completely original horror/psych story, lock the framerate either at 30fps or 60fps, and adjust the chase sequences in a way to make them less annoying.  Sure Yamaoka has left the building, but the soundtrack in this game is pretty minimal as is and I think someone else could do a decent job replacing him.

I actually don't really get why Yamaoka left.  I could understand if it was right after SH5 after working with Double Helix and watching them bastardize the franchise with punching cult members in the face, but you'd think he'd be fairly happy with what Climax UK is doing with the series and want to stay on, even if it's a different style than his work with Team Silent.  Or maybe he was mad Konami was still focusing on SH1's story over and over again.  Or maybe he was just tired of the series and wanted to do something else.  Dunno.

Also the only thing I don't like in terms of how they handle the horror and what I find incredibly inferior to Team Silent is all the little ghosts and memories along the way of the inhabitants of SH and their stories.  In TS it was always really subtle that bad things had happened in the town.  In this game it's like LISTEN TO GUY KILL HIMSELF WHILE LOOKING AT HIS GHOST or LISTEN TO GUY RAPE GIRL WHILE LOOKING AT THE CRIME SCENE.  It's like really really overdone and lame.  It makes it feel like your in some crappy horror movie instead of a creepy town.  That's my only complaint about the style differences.

I dunno man.  Homecoming was awful.  Maybe I just have really low expectations after that.  I hate Homecoming so much that I'd punch a Double Helix member in the gut if I saw one!
I guess the game is not very Silent Hill.  But if you don't compare it to Silent Hill I think it stands out as a good horror game.

I do agree that so far Origins was better because it stuck to the SH formula.  The theater in Origins with the mannequins and then the stage play was seriously A+++ Silent Hill.  The motel with the rooms and the cracks in walls and the pool and the butcher was really good too.  Shattered Memories so far doesn't have anything as memorable as either of those.  Although I do approve of Hot Punk Dhalia.  I think I need to finish the game first before I can really figure out how I feel about it.

I don't necessarily disagree with you.  I'm a huge SH fan and a lot of what makes SH Silent Hill is missing here.  But it also captures a little bit of it as well with the atmosphere and locations.  I dunooooooo

I'm taking a rather leisurely stroll through Mass Effect 1. I played it for the first time around this time last year, and this is my second playthrough. I'm not playing it everyday, nor am I playing it particularly long, but I'm just going over the galaxy, trying to handle all of the sidequests and planetary scans and whatevers before getting back on to the main quest.

This will eventually lead to playing ME2 at some point in the presumably near future.

Just got to Venice in AC2.  The game kicks ass thus far.  Just saw the 'bleeding effect' thing with Desmond (not really a spoiler, it's one of the achievements).  So cool.

I tried out the Altair outfit you can unlock via Uplay but I switched back to Ezio's regular outfit.  You can't change the color of Altair's outfit with dyes.

I miss Altair's VA.  He had such a cool voice.  I hate Desmond's voice.  Fucking Nolan North.

I've never been into sandbox games, but the AC games have something going for them that most games of this type don't - unique settings, and a great sense of style.  They're easily the most aesthetically pleasing western games I've ever played.  That's usually my biggest complaint about western games, the fact that they so often have such crap visual design style...but you can't really go wrong with Jerusalem in the Middle Ages or Renaissance Italy. :rock

"one of the AC games" means you should play AC2. AC1 is fun for about 3 hours, and completing it takes 20 if you go for the full sequence of each mission.

SPLOSION MAN is deal of the week on XBL for 400 points, so I grabbed that. Starts a little slow and dumb, quickly ramps up to something like a rhythm platformer. Interesting.

The only game that make me sick are ones with a really low FOV, mostly when you get up close to other characters or objects.  Recently it is happening big time in the Bad Company 2 beta.  Other games that caused problems are MW2, KZ2, Halo 3, Bioshock, Bad Company 1, and others.

Finally made a start on ME2. Good stuff so far. Lovin' Martin Sheen.

I went with Soldier this time, after Vanguarding through ME1. I'll probably never get the time for a 2nd playthrough, so please chime in if this is a godawful, no-fun choice. Also, Normal seems far too easy...think I'll bump it up a notch. I don't care about achievements so don't mind lowering it again later.

I haven't played as soldier myself, so I can't speak for how fun the class is to play as.  I know that playing with biotics and tech powers is really fun.  As for the difficulty, normal was very easy when playing as a vanguard and I never needed to learn how to break down enemies because brute force worked.  Soldiers have different ammo types that have different effects on shields/armor/health/etc.  For instance, the incendiary ammo is useful on Krogan enemies because it stops their health regeneration.

My guess is that playing as a soldier on normal is more like playing a regular shooter (like Gears or Uncharted), which is still enjoyable in it's own way.  But that is only talking about Shepard's combat skills; you will still have control over the actions and powers of your team.  So if you choose to be the tank Soldier, you can go with one biotic squad member and one tech one to balance it out.  That doesn't mean that a biotic or tech based squad member is as good as you would be if you took that role, but they should keep you covered for the different enemy types and situations.  If you played as a biotic, you could curve powers around and over cover.  If you played as infiltrator, you can go invisible, flank the enemy, and snipe them from behind.  I understand soldier has a bullet time skill, so that could be good too.

The good thing about ME2 combat is that each class is very different to play as.  I think it really helps make it a replayable game.

You get a really good balance of weapons and powers. You have lots of ammo-buffing powers plus a really good offensive. On top of that, using snipers and heavy pistols rocks. They both pack a mean punch, and once you get the Viper sniper rifle you can pretty much mow down an entire mob before they squeeze a round off.

I don't think it's much of a "game".  Sort of like MGS4, chapters 3-5 and the first half of FFXIII, it's more of an interactive movie/adventure experience.  But I thought it was an enjoyable one!  The game gets EIGHTY MILLION BEBPO POINTS for not having CULT CULT CULT.  SH stories when they are not about ZOMG THE EVIL CULT BROUGHT SAMUEL TO TOWN and are about people and their fucked up minds are good and what I want out of Silent Hill games.  So I enjoyed the story through and through.

The "experience" was kind of really short.  Like 4-5 hours-ish.  But with the way they did the game I don't see how they could've made it a whole lot longer.

SM is missing the "game" part of Silent Hill.  It doesn't have the dungeons, it doesn't have the enemies, it doesn't have the fear, it doesn't have the shitty combat, it doesn't have the bosses.
SM has the "story" part of Silent Hill.  It has the atmosphere (though from a new angle with ice/snow instead of gritty), it has the story telling, it creates a creepy world to have a ride through.

I think most people know my taste by now, that if the story part of a game is great, I'll overlook the gameplay side.  So in the end I was pleased with Shattered Memories because it was a neat story experience that gave me about what I expect from a Silent Hill tale.

I don't understand how people do this.

If a game has shitty gameplay, the game is shit. IMO, this is like saying "If the story in a porn is really good, I don't mind that the actual porn sucks". Everything that isn't gameplay in a video game is secondary.

Sure, I love a good story in a video game now and then, but if the actual game isn't fun to play, the story more often than not does nothing to keep me in.

Why Infiltrator?

The stealth thing looks pretty cool - is it useful?

You get a really good balance of weapons and powers. You have lots of ammo-buffing powers plus a really good offensive. On top of that, using snipers and heavy pistols rocks. They both pack a mean punch, and once you get the Viper sniper rifle you can pretty much mow down an entire mob before they squeeze a round off.

Well, it's not too late to re-roll, I guess. My thinking with picking Soldier was just: hey, they say it's a shooter, let's play it that way. I usually end up controlling the NPCs a lot of the time to try out their abilities though, so probably won't miss a whole lot. Just so long as I'm not playing the one hideously gimped class or whatever. That you only find out is gimped midway through the game.
