How many s.links are there?  I thought there were only 13 in the original?  I probably maxed about 6-7 on my first run.

22, I think. A bunch were added for FES, but no new ones for this, apart from the girl side.
And for fuck's sake, I can't make my main char's ultimate weapon because I didn't max out Star s.link. DAMN! I've read you can make Lucifel by accident, but I dunno if that would work without the s.link max anyway. I have got 95% of the encyclopedia now, and I think there is 1 more I can make when I get to level 90.

I played P3 before it was patched and you could fuse a Lucifer with a skill "harmageddon" that did 9999 damage for the cost of full SP (which you just restored with an item afterward).  Made the end sooooo easy :D  I hear they fixed that with FES and P4 though.

So Dante's Inferno is getting shit reviews everywhere but I have it pre-ordered at Amazon for $6.99 because back in December I used a bunch of promotional credit that had to be used by the end of December on it because I thought it'd be good (since Dead Space was) and because I like action games.  Now I don't really want it, but if I cancel the order I'll lose all the credit.  I'm thinking I should try it and then resell it back to Amazon.  They seem to offer about $30 for used copies of week1 games.

I am still waiting for Dante's Inferno to be released on the PSP internet store-- will try it out that way instead.

NMH2 plays great with a CC Pro.  Buy one of those the second they're out, if you haven't imported one yet.

Been playing the shit out of ME2 like everyone else.  Only drag is probing for minerals.  That shit really sucks and every review really understated how much you have to do it.

Ugh, yeah-- not fun at all.  Slow, boring, and tedious.

It's only $7. Bite the bullet.

And I'm sure you could sell it on Half for ~$50 or so during launch week.

Took Gayonetta back to Blockbuster and got Red Faction instead. Don't feel like learning to play with the default controls after using custom controls in DMC 4 for 40 hours. Hopefully they patch it in as an option eventually

Replaying Bioshock to get the last achievement I'm missing (collect all audio diaries) and to refresh the story for BS2 this Tuesday. Think I might play through TWEWY as well while I wait for BS2, but I really hate Neku. Main reason I dropped it a few hours in.

there is online co-op, the netcode was crap but has been patched apparently. I highly recommend local co-op as a bonding experience! if your nephew likes NSMB Im sure he'll dig splosion man

It definitely is a bonding experience, because it tests your patience with whoever you're playing with. Big time.

"No, you fucking idiot! I said 'splode on 1! Not jump on 1! Now we have to do the whole thing again!"

Borderlands - I'm ready to turn this into Gamefly.  Gamefly is taking their sweet ass time getting me a replacement for my second game (it is in Texas - if it was an area hit by weather I'd understand)  I might just turn it in today and rack up some XBLA shit since once I move I won't have an internet connection that is good enough for a game.

I'm probably not even a quarter of the way through this one but I had some fun with it but I think the challenges are just getting more annoying now.  It isn't that they were too hard, it is just that a lot of them require more work than they're worth IMO.

I'm playing the Battle of Forli DLC in Assassin's Creed 2, and wow...it feels so completely unpolished and so unlike the rest of the game.  The game even glitched on me while playing it...first time that's happened to me in AC2.  I was using Leonardo da Vinci's flying machine and when I stopped and went back to the regular map, I was stuck in an area and couldn't move forward.  Had to quit the game and reload.  I'm lucky it didn't reload in the same spot or I would've been FUCKED.

Battle of Forli DLC gets like a 6/10 from me so far...I think I'm almost finished with it.

Just finished the Battle of Forli DLC.  I'd actually downgrade it to a 5/10 since it doesn't even feel like a complete chapter, it just leads to the Bonfire of the Vanities DLC that's coming at the end of the month.

And sucker that I am, I'm going to buy that one too. :/

Just finished Uncharted, about ready to delve into Uncharted 2 (although I might take a bit of a break between games). Going to restart Demon's Souls next, as well as continue with Infamous. As much as I love the series and was excited to play the game, I just can't be motivated to start up MGS4.

Junpei probably plays distinguished mentally-challenged. Just equip the dual sabers and do the Side-In Slice (learned from Jeane mini-game) over and over. You can kill her without getting hit.

Fuck.  I completely ignored doing the jeane stuff because I read all you get is some "side-in slice" attack and I figured one attack probably wasn't important and worth the time to play with the cat.  How long does it take to get the cat down if you haven't touched her at all the whole game until now?

Yeah, cat is too fat at this point.  Won't be getting the step in slice.  Hope I can still beat the game without it!

The controls in this motorcycle boss are so bad it makes the madworld motorcycle boss (which was crap) look good.

Side-In Slice isnt that important, it just makes fights ridiculously easy since all you do is flick the nunchuk and he does this 7 hit combo.

how do I win this motorcycle fight?  I've been retrying for 20 mins.  Whenever he is near the edges he is ALWAYS doing the spinning charge where he's invincible.  When he's in the middle I hit him once and he gets near the edge and goes into his spin charge.  This fight sucks

I fluked out of that fight. I just sat there and he poked me once, then his AI bugged out and he just sat near the edge so I just bumped him off.

A lot of the AI will bug out on you. I think the only actual smart AI is the final boss.

Thats not even the worst part of that fight either, lol. Enjoy the shitty camera. What a disappointing game.

Yeah I can't beat this part.  He won't ever run himself off the edge and if he dashes and ends up near the edge he just goes straight into another spin so I can't knock him off.

This is the worst part of the entire game so far.  Getting close to bailing on this game!

Finally got him off the motorcycle.  He seems to get dizzy eventually if you keep hitting him and then you can just knock him off.
After he got off the damn bike the fight was alright.  I lucked out on the part with the electric dragon though cause I just stayed near ryuji and it never touched me.

So I beat spaceman and it totally exemplifies why NMH2 kinda sucks.  You think "woah, spaceman, satellite, this is gonna be cool!" and then it's not fun at all and just annoying, which describes EVERY BOSS FIGHT IN THIS GAME.  I don't think I've had a single "fun" fight yet.  The fights all have terrible camera, the controls suck, and the game intentionally makes the bosses out to be as little "fun" as possible because most of the time they break out of any combo you do so you can't even get the satisfaction of finishing a 3-4 hit full combo before getting knocked back or the enemy teleporting away or putting up a shield or whatever.  It's a boss rush game full of tedious boss fights with onechanbara level of controls/gameplay.  And when it's not you sit in a parking lot and fight guys who pose no challenge for 20 mins straight.

I'm pretty much just playing it for the cutscenes this time around, whereas the original NMH was actually a fun experience.  The original NMH felt like an adventure.  Exploring this city and the weird people/locations in it.  Going on bus rides, searching the hidden underground nazi bases, exploring the tv studios, the baseball stadiums, mines on the beach, etc... it was like Bill & Teddys excellent adventure except with lots of killing to go along with the laughs.  NMH2 doesn't have the adventure feel because there's no exploration and no story.  It's just a boss rush game with goofy cutscenes between and the boss rush part of it is pretty shitty.  NMH1's actually combat was not very good.  Suda's "gameplay" usually isn't.  So there was really no need to make ANOTHER GAME with the same sucky combat engine.  Sure Travis and Santa Destroy is fun, but the gameplay just was not worth revisting at all; especially when they couldn't come up with good boss fights within the engine's limitations.

I really really hope they don't make a NMH3.  We don't need any more of this.

See but I don't even think the mini-games are an improvement.  They're cute to do once but they aren't actually "good" so you never play them for anything other than money and for the most part you don't even need money in the game!  Wtf at only 2 weapons to purchase.  Why even include Naomi's lab? (well maybe just for the boob bounce).

And I totally preferred the WAGGLE MOTION gym stuff to the retro gym games.  It was one of the few times where WIIMOTION actually makes sense since you are at a GYM WORKING OUT.  I thought they were fun and easy.

The only objective improvement is probably that the graphics are better.  That's about it.  The overworld/minigames are subjective and I think most people would agree that the story/boss fights are not as good.

uh wasn't like that in the original too? all the bosses were about dodging them (maybe staying far from them would be more correct) until they dropped their guard, punch them in the face until you could and then it was back to the dodging

I'm fully aware why you like it. Like I said you just mention the "forced bullshit" i.e. minigames. I'm not arguing against that at all.

A lot - ton - of my complaints are smaller. The Dark Step is still in and a viable option, they didnt axe it. It got a nerf yes. The problem is it's completely useless this time since every boss in the game does nothing but throw stuff at you.

What I hate about NMH2:

- Lack of swords, part of the fun of GRINDAN that money was to see how good that new sword you got was (where have I seen this mechanic before in games I love). The swords had much better designs too.
- 8 Sidejobs, no use for money. All you can buy are 2 swords, Gym upgrades, and useless clothes. Why not just drop the entire stuff altogether? Dont just stop at the boss battles.
- Lack of Lolikov Balls
- Lack of Head Beef Videos
- Lack of Robotic Voice before rank battles (alternatively, I'm glad they axed Sylvia's dumb wii phone call. But I still hate that they replaced it with one-on-one slut monologue)
- distinguished mentally-challenged Motorcycle level (I'm dead serious there is an entire level where you just drive down a highway. Complete waste of Wii Code)
- Lack of bonus boss (reading the OG script, yet another cut thing)
- Lack of ending (probably cut too)
- Boss intros are weaker (Rank 2 remedies this)
- Boss outros are weaker (see above)
- Camera was garbage (may need revisiting NMH1 to confirm)
- Shinobu levels unnecessary, complete with disgusting platforming
- More Shinobu than Henry, who is actually more fun to play as
- Revenge Missions a complete mess (reading OG script confirms this was supposed to lead to something, as usual - CUT)
- The machine gun grunts who stun you easily

At first I was like, jesus did they make this?? What happened? Then that thread on GAF showing the "real" script only confirms what I had feared. These things must have been cut for the eventual HD version with "new features".

When and if the HD verson comes to America, you are more than welcome to re-try it and see why I loved it more. If that doesnt convince you maybe the probable HD "enhanced" sequel will show you why this one was disappointing

I've been messing around with Dragon Quest 7.  It is kind of fun in a retro old school kind of way, but I feel that this type of gameplay is now better suited on a handheld where I can play it in the bed or on the toilet.  I'm thinking about getting a DS and a flash cart some RPGs for it.

Finished NMH2.  Demi is spot on with this game.  There's really no point to even keep playing the game as it doesn't get better as it goes, and there's no story, no ending and the last parts of the game are the worst because all they do with the gameplay is give more tedious levels (30 mins of fighting the same 3 guys over and over) and more tedious bosses.  I wouldn't be surprised in the game is more enjoyable on sweet difficulty because all least everything dies quickly, which should cut down on the repetition.  There was some good stuff here and there, but it's buried beneath a mountain of glaring game design flaws.  I don't know if the game problems are because it's a quickly rushed out sequel with an expectation of a directors cut for the HD systems, or if the design wast just shitty in the first place, but yeah; the level design is uninspired, the boss fights are annoying, and there's nothing else to do in the game.

You can tell a game has good combat/bosses when you can beat them on the highest difficulty without getting hit once.  This is because there are strategies and patterns and if you learn them and pull them off, things work as they should.  So when I check the boss faq for NMH2 and the strategies listed are "I got lucky and the boss drove off the edge of a cliff on their own" or "there is no actual way to dodge his teleport attack 100%; just keep retrying until you get lucky and win" you know that something has gone wrong.

At its best, NMH2 is Suda's take on his buddy Kojima's MGS boss fights.  Wacky, varied, ridiculous, and fun.  If NMH2 was simply 15 or so MGS level bosses it would be an amazing game.  But Grasshopper does not have the technical skill to pull the concept off and so you're left with 15 or so C- action game bosses and a non-amazing game.

While the original NMH may have had the same or similar gameplay flaws (it's been long enough that I can't remember and I have no interest in revisting that title), the rest of the product made up for its weaknesses and gave a reason to keep on playing.  NMH2 has nothing to do that for the weak gameplay.

I think everything to be said has been said by this point.  To me, the original NMH was in the 8-9/10 range and NMH is more like the 6-7/10 range.  My least favorite post-Killer 7 era Suda game for sure.

AC2 is SO GOOD.  This will be the first sandbox game where I actually complete the storyline.  I am not going to bother getting all the trinkets, but everything else is awesome.

You need to at least do all the crypts so you can get the AWESOME Armor of Altair.

Already done all of them.  8)  I did the crypts as soon as I had access to them.  They reminded me some kind of beautiful Zelda puzzle solving and 3d Mario platforming.  Best parts of the game as far as I'm concerned.

I didn't like the time based platforming but I loved the quick movement of the levels. Really well done.

There's an extra one (the Auditore family crypt) that you can unlock through uPlay too. It tells you the backstory for the Auditore family.

Hmmm...'Splosion Man is fun.  The animation is really good for an XBLA title.  Game seems like A LOT of trial and error, but as long as the checkpoints stay frequent I don't mind.
