IU is better than Eternal Sonata... that's about it. Better than Bethesda games too, but that goes without saying.

Go back and replay it... you will be suprised. A lot has happened since IU came out. Notably Star Ocean 4 and ROF. IU has held very well since release.

You might be able to enjoy it if you skip the cutscenes, otherwise...

It's not better than FF13... I'm saying it better than ROF

At least in IU you see:

* Color
* More than the same 3 characters
* Different locales
* A bear as a character that joins your party

Infinite Undiscovery has Eugene as a character.  I don't think it is winning any comparisons here.

Eugene is a god tier character in the game though. I used him to beat the Seraphic Queen

I only played Vesperia and IU out of the jrpgs this gen, but I will agree with demi because I said IU would be the best jrpg...before I played it.

Eugine sucks, though.  His AI is borderline distinguished mentally-challenged.  I was almost yelling at my TV because he would stand around and do nothing.  If not that, he would be passed out because enemies mistook him for a threat.

and I do want IU2 with co-op

IU wasn't the worst game I've ever played (surely Eternal Sonata is a lot worse) but the long-ass dungeons with no save points, mashy combat, and running back and forth through the fucking large, mazelike forest as the rain which corrupted your party members constantly beat down on you, got really annoying.

The rain hardly affected your characters, and you could play Mare Lunaris. Sorry you suck shit at JRPG...

Oh really? Cuz I have beaten nearly all the ones that have come out this gen (and most gens for the record)... guess you're just upset that most (sane) people prefer RoF over IU. And believe me, I really wanted to like the game...

I remember you were pretty keen on RoF when it came out. What made you change your mind on it?

sounds like your tri-ace game
radiata stories was like that,it starts like the most funniest rpg in the world and then it gets all dramatic for no reasons
i mean in the intro the protagonist awakens with his pajama worn backside and he acts like the biggest idiot ever,it's really a shame that the ending turns like that

God I loved Radiata Stories.  Wish Tri-ace did another game in that light comic and cartoony style again.  RoF is close in character, but visually it's the complete opposite with gritty realism look.

Stuck in a fucking ENDLESS battle in FF6 in the Fanatics' Tower. It's that place where you can only use magic, and as you ascend the enemies begin casting stronger and stronger spells. I guess I forgot how rough it gets toward the top, because I got into this battle where everyone in my party except for Setzer (my most useless member) died within two casts right at the start. I have a reflect ring on him so I figured I could just spam death on all the enemies and win eventually, but after I killed off two of them, one of the other fuckers cast berserk on Setzer by bouncing it off his own reflect. The only enemy left casts nothing but status ailment spells, so I'm not gonna die, but I have to sit here and wait for shitty Setzer to whittle down the asshole with his puny melee attack -- oh, and the enemy also has 95 evade. lolol

edit: Omg I win. Now I have to decide if I should leave and buy more reflect rings or try to keep going

Trials HD has me hooked. I complained about the difficulty yesterday, but today I managed to get gold medals on 4 medium stages and I somehow also managed to complete all the hard stages, bronze medals only. Got gold and silver on some of the skill stages too. My hands were cramped by the time I decided to try the extreme stages, so I gave up on those. They're fucking ridiculous though. I don't know if I'll ever be able to complete any of them.

IU has the Dinner Dance, so its a winner. I never beat that game though. I havent actually finished a jrpg in years, I just havent the patience for them anymore  :( Still halfway through ToV and a 15 hours into Last Remnant. They are both great games but I always get distracted by a new XBLA game or something.

The Scene weekend playlist: (its meant to be rainy and cold all weekend so will be lurking in the Scene lair the whole time)

A healthy dose of RDR multiplayer

Peggle Nights - trying to beat the last few challenges for my 250/250. The 1 million points over 3 stages is a BIATCH

Just got Duke Nukem Manhattan so I'll be smashing that for 200

Metal Gear Solid 4 - up the the final act so should be able to beat it pretty soon

Ace Attorney: Miles Edgeworth - this is awesome. Ichirou hooked me up with a copy  :D

Persona 2: Innocent Sin - awesome but the encounter rate is pretty high and you level too fast, all the enemies are scrubs. Story is great at least.

Working to finish Metro 2033.  It's been a really cool game but the story isn't providing any indication of how far I am through the game so my interest is starting to wane.

Apparently I'm nearly done - 7 chapters and I just started chapter 6.

Mario Galaxy 2, have to do some stars and a comet coin in another fucking waggle bird level, and then I'll have everything up through world 6 done. Gonna play all this weekend, hopefully be able to get most of the green stars. Now I hear the 'final' stage of the game is a pain in the ass.

it's also a great way to meet rare secret enemies since they are always of a higher level than the common mobs

finished it. 12 or so hours I would guess.

Lost a fuck-ton of people at the end. I was under the impression that upgrades only pertained to game-play, playing on casual and not enjoying the probing, I did very few. And absolutely no ship upgrades. Shepard survived though (is it possible to not? got an achievement for it...)

The shooting game-play was fine, played an assassin type build so it was all nice and slow for me. Didn't particularly care for the husks though, felt like sometimes you could get surrounded and caught in a stun loop that depleted your entire shield/life without you being able to do anything to get out.

I would have preferred if the conversation choices would be based on tone/attitude rather than the outcome/repercussions. Like when I went to register with the mercs for the archangel mission, there was a conversation with the dude who was next in line and the paragon choice, while ultimately saving his life, was basically 'be a hard-ass', not choosing it has you looking like a bitch.

at the end of the day it wasn't time wasted, but the conversation system didn't really do it for me.

Need to figure out my next handheld game to play on the can and when I'm away from home.  Last Ranker comes out July 15th so I just need something for about 10-20 days of maybe 20 mins a day.  So 10-15 hour game maybe.  Been playing too many rpgs in the last month.  Kind of sick of them.  Want to play something else.

Candidates:
-SRW K [SRPG] just came off SRW OG and still in a SRW kick.  Never played K, only DS SRW I haven't played yet.
-Metal Gear Ac!d 2 [SRPG] only Metal Gear I still haven't played
-Phoenix Wright 4 [ADV] I liked 1/3, did not like 2 and when the cases are boring in this series they are BOOOOORING.  Too much text.  But when they're good they're fun.
-Ghost Trick [ADV] PW guy but not PW
-Killzone Liberations [ACT] I heard it's a good but hard as hell top down shooter?  Like MGS/Contra?
-Syphon Filter [ACT] I own both psp ones but haven't played either.  I liked Peace Walker & Resistance PSP and I hear they are similar
-Wild Arms XF [SRPG] Gotta play this someday, but seems like a big long srpg
-Devil Survivor [SRPG] I hear the game is awesome, but seems like big long srpg, so maybe not now
-Valkyrie Profile DS [SRPG] same deal
-Knights in the Knightmare [SRPG/SHMUP?] still sealed, people told me it was good
-Lunar Knights Boktai 2? [ACT?] still sealed, got it for free or something
-Patchwork Heroes [???] got it off PSN cause I like the art and it was $10, never tried it

Probably a lot of other stuff in my PSP/DS backlog, but those are the ones I want to play eventually off the top of my head.  Hard to pick.

Played a bit of Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing.  I liked it quite a bit.  The courses are pretty well designed and varied enough to where it isn't repetitive.  For essentially a Sega fanwank title, I expected more courses than what is just limited to HOTD, Billy Hatcher (who actually played that game?), JSR, Sonic, Samba, and Monkey Ball.  I purchased Jacky and Akira and Opa Opa as unlockable characters.  The biggest downside is the rubberband AI.  It is hard to determine which is more obnoxious: rubberbanding AI or blue shell hell.  Yet it happens.  You will never have a huge lead over anyone because suddenly the 2nd place racer gets a speed boost out of nowhere and catches up to you like its nothing.

Like I said, it is a fanwank title with who you can select.  This game is for the few Sega fans (namely Dreamcast era Sega fans).  Sumo Digital I think did a good job with the overall game.  I have one more cup to complete and then I'll start playing around on the missions.  I'll probably send it back to Gamefly on Monday.

FFXIII is hanging back a bit but I want to complete it as quickly as possible.  How long does it last if you barely partake in any side missions?

while revisiting old psx game on my psp,i'm also trying to give another spin to old psp game so i decided to try crisis core again and it still strikes me as an awfull game, the combat is so mashy but not kingdom hearts mashy fun but "click,....,SLASH,click,.....,SLASH,click,.....,SLASH,click,...,SLASH" tedious... i don't think i will ever understand why they decided for this half assed style where you tell zack what to do,and he carries the action 1 sec after... were they trying a turn-based/real time hybrid like parasite eve? all of the places you visit are empty and lifeless and force you to fight the same 5 sec battle over and over, there is no equipment to find and zack level up when he feels like doing it so there is no joy to find as a lootwhore and i really couldn't care less about the plot,it feels like they said "dude! let's just throw FF7 character in it and everybody will want to know what happens riiiiiggggghhhhhtttt?"

Basically if you go from pay-to-play you go from being a VIP member to a Premium member when it hits f2p. You get better benefits and things like that.

Terrible list, IMO.  PS3/360 have better stuff than that every 6 months.  That's why I'll never get why people like Himu insist that portable gaming is better than home consoles this gen.

If I had to choose, I'd go with MGS:A2 and Syphon Filter.  Killzone looks pretty nice but controls feel clunky.  Didn't MGS:A2 have some funky 3D mode?  You should check it out for that reason alone.

No surprise that you didn't enjoy it that much since you did such a half-ass job of playing it.  First, combat is way too easy to be fun on casual.  Second, the best character interactions and writing are in the loyalty missions.  Almost everyone agrees that the most fun in ME2 are to be found in the loyalty missions.  Of course you weren't going to like ME2  if you just decided to skip over them.

I did three loyalty missions. Garrus, Jack and Tali. Didn't seem to be out of line with the rest of the game's writing. And as far as the combat goes, I doubt I would have found it more fun if it was more challenging. I don't care that much for shooters, and especially using a controller.

Terrible list, IMO.  PS3/360 have better stuff than that every 6 months.  That's why I'll never get why people like Himu insist that portable gaming is better than home consoles this gen.

ehhh, just depends what you are into.  There's some quality stuff there if you're into jrpgs/srpgs.  In all other categories, yeah the console destroy the handhelds.

Trying to restart from an old save in Far Cry 2 but I've completely forgotten how to play this game. Frustrating.

Fuck this game. Far Cry 2 I mean.

What's weird is that I know a lot of internet types who like this game and every time I give it a try I'm baffled as to why.

At Chapter 7 in FFXIII.  I'm slogging through the game the best I can but I had to give up after a few times due to sheer boredom at running along corridors.  At least with Chapter 6, it is an outside area, but a corridor nonetheless.  Clocked in just a little over 10 hours into the game.

I sent in Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing.  It was a passable racing game but other than dick around at pointless missions or grinding to get Alex Kidd and Ryo, there was no further point in playing the game.  7/10 game in the IGN rating system.

oblivion.  there is a lot to do in this game and i feel like i'm missing out.

also, some really powerful random encounters happened near me where all of the spawned npcs killed each other, so i have some really, really, really powerful equipment for early on in the game.  feels a little cheap on my part, but i don't really want to give them up because it makes the combat aspect of the game so much more bearable if i just clobber the hell out of everything i come across.

Did this ever get a UMD release?

1 more star to go and I'll have the first 120 in Galaxy 2. But it's that damn Throwback Throwdown speed run. Putting the game on hold to play Sin and Punishment 2.

After continuing my replay of Deus Ex, I gave Invisible War another shot hoping to finish it this time.  After about two hours I can see that won't happen.

Never finished the game. Rented it and never went back. Enjoyed reading this kind of walkthrough of the game. I thought the remaining popularity of the game was basically because of the perma death stuff and trying to finish the game without dying. That's what that blog/walkthrough is I linked to. A no death run but the guys written about it pretty well. Think it's like 200 pages long or so but most are just pictures with a little accompanying text.

1000'd Nier and Resonance of Fate. Both are really great games, but it's a hell of a grind to 1000 them. Maxing out all 30 weapons in Nier in particular was really really bad, probably even more annoying than the grind to 1000 The Last Remnant. Oh well, glad that's behind me now. Even if you aren't trying to get the achievements in Nier, I'd say it's  worth playing through 4 times (well, more like 1 full playthrough and then 3 more half playthroughs) in order to get the complete story. Though the only difference in the third and fourth playthrough is the endings.

I started up Magna Carta 2 earlier as well. It's actually a pretty good game so far, but I hope I get a mount at some point. Running back and forth through these big MMO-esque maps can get annoying. I also bought the DLC, and the weapons it gives you are hilariously broken. They are literally 10x stronger than the weapons I'm currently using, so I'm not going to equip them until I level up a whole lot. Blowing through the game 1-shotting everything would be pretty boring.
