Disagree with tiesto. Persona 4 is harder than 3. In 3 you had all the time in the world to dungeon crawl before you had to fight the boss on the dull moon. In 4 sometimes you will only have a few days to prepare. The bosses are also harder.

back to FFXIII.  damn, i'm totally into this now, especially after the gigantic difficulty bump in ch.11.  I never get game overs in FF games, in this one I get a couple an hour it seems.

Yeah chapter 11 and up have a nice difficulty increase. Enemies will actually kill you. It and 12 are the hardest FF's since maybe 2.

Finished Super Robot Wars OG Gaiden.  Last two stages are probably the toughest two stages I've ever played in an SRPG.  Wanted to break some faces after hours of retries, but eventually finished it at three in the morning and will now be a zombie at work tomorrow.

Poor life choices  :-\

Game was fun otherwise, and now I can start playing sexy SRW 2nd OGs on PS3 in 720p beautiful sprites this weekend!

LOL

Too bad this is the end of the game...

Square: So you are enjoying FF13 now? It ends in one chapter! Suck it, gamer!

no way!  I'm definitely gonna go through the missions after the end...well, as many as I can till I get bored.  Maybe go for that first platinum, maybe not.

also ch.11 is long as fuck, even without doing any missions, jesus christ.

Did you finish KH3D, Demi?

I just reached Tron's world, yet I'm still having mixed feelings. The drop mechanic kinda soured the game for me. Drop-me-nots somewhat alleviated the nastiness, but not by much.

What's wrong with the drop mechanic? Just keep buying the Drop Extender. I'm on the Mouseketeer world. Playing on Proud Mode. The Dream Eater mechanic is kinda funky but you can really ignore them enough to not dedicate time to it. Just spam Water Barrels for quick points, buy your nodes, and move on.

I've played the first two stages in 2SRWOG, but I'll actually start the game when I finished RGG5. Was really nice based on the little bit I've done, though.

Perhaps I played wrong.. since in 3 I went for the tower as soon as the next set of floors became available to me. The Full Moon bosses weren't too tough (aside from the November Full Moon - Hanged Man battle) though. 4 I am doing the same thing (going through the dungeons in 2-3 trips as soon as they become available.) and apart from Yukiko's boss (which just took a bit of grinding), and that stupid fucking baby thing I've been finding it easy. Some of the P3 bosses in the tower (especially when they cast status ailments on you) were soooo much harder.

Just hit October... hopefully I can finish the game by next weekend... this weekend my schedule is pretty packed with birthday parties. Real-life S-Linking is getting in the way  :P

Anyhow Sceneman disgusting holiday FFXIII marathon continues. Beat all the post game bosses in FFXIII-2 and just need to mop up the last couple of fragments (clock puzzles and quizzes mainly :piss) for my 1000/1000.

Up to chapter 9 in FFXIII-1 now. Really like this game. What a treasure.

Ryu ga Gotoku 5 is really really awesome. I hope it gets localized or you guys bite the bullet and import it at some point. Totally worth it.

Oscar, you pick it up yet, or were you just playing the demo a couple weeks ago?

How much Japanese do you speak and/or read?

For the longest time, I couldn't play Japanese games; it felt like work, where I'd already spent 10+ hours on any given day. I didn't feel like muddling through more Nipponese in my "off time."

My Japanese isn't that great. I can navigate around towns and maps, ask for directions and order basic items at a restaurant, but my kanji knowledge is absolutely shit. I took it in high school, but my university didn't offer it, so it's pretty much stagnated aside from playing games.

I probably understand about 50% of the dialogue in RGG5, but what I miss out on I can fill in based on the context of what I do understand. It's actually been great practice at retaining/learning vocabulary.

Just saw the credits roll in Rayman Origins. Still have to collect two of the diamond teeth but I probably won't bother with medals.

While I still feel the same about the core gameplay mechanics as I did after playing the demo, I have to say that the game as a whole exceeded my expectations. That's partly because the graphics and the soundtrack are so fantastic and keep that quality throughout the game and partly due to the excellently balanced difficulty of the game. You feel always challenged and never frustrated. It's really clever how you can basically choose yourself how tough you want the game to be. Most levels are relatively easy if you just want to reach he exit, but if you collect all the stuff you'll have to make more difficult jumps. Separating the levels so you play small bits also allows for some tough spots that are still doable because you can practise them very quick. I also loved the chest chase sequences, although they sometimes show off small problems with the controls, it's not always clear why you loose momentum.

Not sure how I would stack it overall against NSMB, presentation and difficulty are better in Rayman, Nintendo is still king when it comes to gameplay and controls. It definetely makes you wish Nintendo would put more effort into presentation and would be more open to play around with newer gameplay conventions.

Rayman Origins > Any NSMB game

Origins isn't a perfect game by any means but it is fantastic.  I don't have much hope for Legends though :(

Edit: Halfway through Samurai Warriors Chronicles for the 3DS.  I really like this game.  The biggest strength here is that there is a shitload of content to work your way through.  Looks like there's a total of 37 stages, some of them I recognize from other Samurai Warriors games, including 3.  Another great strength here is that you can switch to another general using the touch screen.  Works great if you want to switch to the other side of the map to hunt down an escaping officer.  The downside is that the game recognizes this and sets up a lot of difficult missions that are hard to get at unless your character happens to be in the right area.  As a result, you're probably going to fail a couple of missions.  However, unlike some of the previous Musou games, the stages will generally take 20-30 minutes at most.  Turning the 3D off gives a nice framerate boost but I usually turn it on for the sequences between stages.  A real solid effort here from Omega Force.

I probably understand about 50% of the dialogue in RGG5, but what I miss out on I can fill in based on the context of what I do understand. It's actually been great practice at retaining/learning vocabulary.
In California, my school started with Spanish in junior high, and then had a choice of French or Spanish in high school. I'd wanted to speak Japanese from age 6 or 7, but didn't know I could have just gone to jr. college for those lessons whenever I'd wanted, and received jr. high and high school credit for them. Hell, I would have received college credit for them. Once I got to college, I studied two semesters' worth, but was frustrated by the favoritism shown to all the Nikkei who started off with "kitchen Japanese."

Ironically, 99% of what ability I have has come from conversation with locals after I moved here. As a consequence, my kanji knowledge is poop outside of game development and ordering food.

My speaking is basically sufficient for day-to-day communication, with the ability to go in depth only on my topics of interest.  I can read like a champ, though, and I understand I'd say a good 85% of what I hear when I watch the news or listen to native speakers, as long as they don't go too crazy with the non-regional slang.
I am jealous of your ability to read so much. If I could read more Japanese, I might read more manga, but I am limited to stuff with furigana/yomigana, which tends to be young-ish stuff. The most complicated thing I've read without yomigana is GANTZ, which I was crazy for until vol. 16 or so. Newspapers? Forget about it.

Just finished Crysis 2. Pretty damned good, although the scripted shit nearly killed the game a few times. Looked spectacular, and also ran nicely which I wasn't expecting from a Crytek game.

I remember when I went to go pick up Lolipop Chainsaw. Must have been the only person who actually wanted to buy it at this particular Best Buy since I had to ask for it. It wasn't on display. Dude walks out with it and offers me some Lolipop Chainsaw swag such as a a huge lolipop, thumb drive, and pom poms. It was a pretty good lolipop.

skip through ch.11, beat 12+13 and return after the last boss.  Even without messing around/doing missions, it's a long ass chapter.  Also, Lightning, Fang, and Hope's best weapons to upgrade are after gran pulse, if any (or all) of them are in your party.

It's not difficult since you have to max out your characters anyway. Which is really easy to do. It's much easier and enjoyable than 13's slog grind.

vesperia requires like 2.5 playthroughs. Not fun.

For those particularly close encounters the shotgun is king. The greatest high point for me was an early mission where some bullshit led to me losing three guys at once leaving my one assault man and his shotgun to solo the six sectoids like a boss. The run and gun move is gloriously overpowered.

yeah Vesperia 1k is pretty brutal, filling out the item log with over 1000 items took forever, as did collecting all the titles. Took about 140 hours all up to get everything.

Postgame is really fun in XIII-2, a piece of piss too. I just grabbed Chichu and steamrolled all the postgame bosses without breaking a sweat. Final time to 1k was 56 hours.

Just gonna keep plugging away at FFXIII and may get into Last Remnant again as I stopped about 10 hours in. I'm aiming to get 1k in all JRPGs on 360 eventually (except for Star Ocean)

Vesperia is indeed awesome. Troy Baker is king of VA.

I need 1990 more gamerscore before I hit, 100k I'm soooooooo keen. Just rummaged through my old games to see if theres anything I can rinse out pretty easily. Found Condemned 1, apparently its an easy completion. Will hit it soon.

But today I am playing the awesome game: Update My Resume and Get the Ho Ass Welfare Office Off My Back

Hated Vesperia in the end, it's cast outside of Yuri annoyed the fuck out of me. Haven't finnished Graces, it sure is fun to play, but it's growing tired with me thanks to an even worse cast and story. Hopefully Xillia is better.

Magna Carta 2. Might as well be a jrpg. Operation Darkness if Srpgs count. People think Nier is a jrpg.

Record of Agarest War :uguu

But seriously, make sure to play Resonance of Fate. It's one of my only 2 PS3 platinums, game is just soooo good. The characters are fantastic.

No pal version of Operation Darkness  :'( I 1K'ed Nier already. Its a J action RPG, yeah. I'd say its more RPG than action game, as the combat is wafer thin. Will check out Magna Carta 2.

Is there an Xbox version of Record of Agarest War?

I would totally get Operation Darkness if I had a North America 360. You can't go wrong with werewolves and nazis.
