Finished Symphony of the Night by beating Dracula. 170~%, nine and a half hours.

Real good stuff. I liked the inverted castle more than the regular one. By the time you flip over you have all the fancy vampire shit, and the RPG stuff starts becoming more apparent with fire/ice/etc affinities and you have more gear that impacts-/is impacted by stats. The inverted castle is also requires a lot of bat/fog/super-jump to traverse which I quite liked.

I had the Alucard shield and the shield rod, but calling it OP is a bit of an understatement as it was literally cheat-code tier. Tried it on the medusa boss fight but steamrolling like that didn't seem very fun so I didn't use it after.

Guacamelee Super Turbo Championship Edition

This game is amazing. I love it and it's sort of simple but well down Metroidvania gameplay. Great music and fantastic art rule the presentation, which overall is top notch.

It's free on Xbone if you have that, if not get it for cheap on Steam or something.

It's also free with XBL Gold on 360 right now.

I replayed SotN last summer after finishing Super Metroid for the first time, mostly to see if my opinion of the game would change after playing the pinnacle of Metroidvanias. I ended up not only fully enjoying it (yet again) but respecting it even more after recognizing — with certainty — what it inherited from Super Metroid and what it introduced/innovated. I also remember grinding every last bit of item/equipment the game had to offer. It was a blast.

I feel like the game did a good job not hiding shit too much. Filling out the map you end up getting all the things you need.

Only thing that was a bit annoying was how some weapons had hidden special attacks. Like the ice sword which has a short range ice attack or one shield that, if you press square and circle at the same time, summoned a big-ass horse thing that I presume does some buff thing.

Are you logged in on Xbox.com or viewing on the 360 itself?

Is your account for USA region (in case the deal is limited)?

All I know is I logged in at xbox.com, downloaded Guacamelee, Gotham City Imposters, and the new DLC for PvZ:Garden Warfare, and they were all free, and all waiting for me next time I turned on my 360.

I'm thinking it was a mistake that they fixed because on xbox.com only the Xbone version is free now (which is garbage).

Oh well, I actually already have it on Steam, it's just not this super-duper edition.

Trying to give Arkham Origins another try, about to say fuck it.  Everything just feels off about it, from the combat timing to the grappling to the confusing layout of the levels/city. It's just a bad game and not fun. Kinda makes me not want to buy Knight.

Too much of the same thing over and over, I guess? I can't see Knight being very different, and initial impressions I've read have been pretty eh. Maybe they'll take the time to mix it up some. I wasn't that taken with City, either.

That's the reason I dropped the series after GTA3. They're not compelling games.

I think most people's interest peters out after they've done the umpteenth "Go here; now shoot that guy" mission. GTA IV was a chore for me to finish, even though OWGs are my favorite kind of game. The side content has always been my favorite bit of these games, and GTAV has plenty of it. But many boritos seem to buy the game because of the hype, temporarily causing them to forget that they got bored and didn't finish the previous games.

Ironically, with GTA Online, and now that I'm level 100, I finally have the rocket launcher, but with no remaining Achievements I'm on to the next game.

Which, in this case, is my re-play of Batman Arkham Asylum, which I originally played through on PS3.

GTAIV is the only GTA I had trouble finishing.

Same here. It really was a disappointment, especially on the heels of Saints Row. It was the only GTA for which I sprung on a Collectors' Edition.  :'( GTA IV and LA Snore are the worst Rockstar Games.

Yes, I know, Bondi, but they're the ones who published it, as well as brought the boat into port when it was dangerously wayward. It cracks me up that the technology for performance capture, while groundbreaking, was used to such poor effect and was such a poorly managed asset in the game that it hasn't been used since.

I may be talking out of my butt; the GTAV actors look a good deal like their in-game counterparts, so maybe Rockstar salvaged it?

Saints Row 1 knocked the crap out of GTAIV. Before GTAIV, I thought SR1 was good, not great. Then when GTAIV came out, I popped in SR a month later and it was night and day. Been a fan ever since.

Started Arkham Origins the other day, but I can't figure out why it's not clicking with me. I enjoyed the previous two games, but it's just not holding my interest. It also runs like shit compared to Arkham City on similar settings.

Well, I'm an idiot. :lol

The thing I downloaded from Xbox.com was a promotional video, so of course it was free. It showed up in my "Recent" tab with all my other games, so I didn't look all that closely at the icon, which shows it as a game video. I started it up, thought it was the opening video or "attract mode" movie, but NOPE.

Yeah, it's not free on 360. The website is showing US$14.99 there as well, now that the game is actually available for download.   :-[

Gotham City Impostors (from Games with Gold thread):
(snip)
Buy a BONE already, Scenester. Ghotham City Imposters might as well be a sweaty nutsack to the face.
(snip)
I might agree with you there.

Wasn't this a discount game at launch? It's clear that they expected to make a ton of money on DLC unlocks by the impatient. Played for the first time yesterday, put in maybe 6 hours, am nearly level 10, but still don't have enough bat-dollars to buy new costume pieces. Unlocks for weapons, perks, mods, are really, really slow. It feels like a grind to get to the next stuff, and the lack of good stuff feels like it costs me wins, and not winning makes this feel like more of a grind.

Not only that, but as a FPS, all the customization items are not visible unless you're standing on the winner's podium, or watching your corpse get flung around the arena.

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare is a heap more fun.

I think GTAV is better than SA. :yeshrug
I... might disagree with you there.

I spent 140 hours in GTA:SA but over double that in GTAV. However, I think I enjoyed the story, side-missions, weird little mini games (low-rider dance contest, anyone?), and voice acting more in SA. It was also way, way over the top. It had the feeling of outrageousness that I'd come to expect from III and Vice City.

GTAV is a superb game, but it still takes itself more serious than I'd like, and still needs more crazy side missions.

And GTA Online has yet to bring up their promised Heists. Very weird.

You can skip 4, it's wholly unremarkable.

4 is one of my favorites.  I'd give 6 the pass out of the three DS remakes.  They're all worth at least one play, though.
Eh, I got bored halfway through but finished it anyway. I don't really remember much of it. Getting the ship was rad though.

4 has the best storytelling for an nes title. Its storytelling is pretty remarkable given the limitations. It is one of the best jrpgs I've ever played and one of the best in the series.

I also think that as a game, IV is much better than V. The only thing V does better  than IV is story. But wow, what a story, right? V isn't really the most balanced game, and if you get the right monster in your party it's a trip to never dying once-ville. It's almost Final fantasy level of vapidity.

DQ1 is the most barebone rpg ever, it's like watching citizen kane, you can feel the historical weight and how it was important for future games but you probably aren't going to enjoy yourself much...

so yeah DQ1 is the citizen kane of gaming

In my circle of friends, we all seem to prefer 4 to 3 but it's always seemed on the internet that more people like 3 over 4. I understand it was a HUGE deal in Japan back in '88 and it was such a massive step ahead of anything that came before, but I think that by the time 3 came to the states, we already had games like FF1, FF4, Phantasy Star 1 and 2 that it looked a bit quaint... and the storytelling of 4 resonated much more with us.

Okay, I got Dark Souls working. THANK MICROSOFT!

*middle finger*

Anyways, I started a new game as a hunter. On my way to ring the church bell. So far so good. Minimal deaths. I'm following Kay's Let's Play of Dark Souls 1. It gives me confidence because she's so fucking bad at combat at the outset of the game, and seeing her improve allows ME to improve. For example, she takes out those skeletons at the grave yard near the main hub of Lordran. Before, I had never killed one, because the whole REVIVE AFTER YOU KNOCK THE SHIT OUT OF THEM" thing always freaked me out and I panicked. But Kay went after them and managed to kill them, so I went some and killed some too. Eventually got to a point where they're not a problem for me but I still need to watch out. Should ring the bell tonight, hopefully.

Made good progress in MH and Dark Souls tonight.

Didn't ring the bell like I said i would but I got to the undead berg in record time. Plan on summoning for the gargoyle fight because the fight is bullshit on solo.

its pretty easy. put the gold pine resin on, run to the back of the first gargoyle and attack the tail a few times, rekt. then do the same to the other gargoyle when it spawns. double rekt. get gud, son.

What does gold pine resin do? I'm fine with the boss until the second one comes.

adds lightning effect to the right hand weapon. gargoyles are weak to lightning. aka they get rekt.

i'm glad to see the incredible machine reborn but this version doesn't feel much different from all of the other (though there are a lot of life improvement like the ability to rotate piece by just dragging or the ability of seeing the trajectory of the item as you place them) and the graphics looks pretty bad

so honestly i'd rather play the incredible toon machine again

did you know they even made a g&g version of the game?

i guess on the plus side it has online puzzle sharing and multiplayer
