Don't tell magus that it was originally a Sonic fangame before the assets got replaced a few years ago and the Freedom Planet demo was released in for the Sonic fangame festival in 2012.  :teehee

I've been as sick as a dog for the past weekend so I haven't been able to play anything at all.  From what little I played of Freedom Planet, it's much improved on the original demo from 2012.  I just don't care for the story at all so I'm playing Classic Mode instead.

Tried Oculus Rift DK2.

It's neat but it's reaaaaally early.  This tech is gonna need another 5 years to be something you game on.  Also since pretty much none of the existing DK1 demos/games work on DK2 there's nothing really to test on it besides a few one area demos.  Still a bunch of motion blur when you move your head, still pixely from low resolution, borders around the edges from low FoV and messing around with it for a couple of hours made my eyes hurt and my stomach feel like vomitting.

Will check it out in a month or two.

Seeing Grandia comparisons got my hopes up waaaay too much for FC. I can see why people make the comparisons, but Grandia's combat, dungeons, etc. are so, so much better.

Grandia IS way better, but seeing how this is pretty much one of the only actual OG turn-based JRPGs on the HD twins, I'm not complaining.

After playing the Destiny Beta I'm craving some Western AAA shootbang because it's been a while since I've played one of those and all I'm playing is Japanese games + Western Indie stuff anymore.  Which is the most fun and satisfying of these.  I don't want a lot of story cutscenes or exploration, I just want a streamlined AAA experience that tells the story of a summer popcorn movie.  Want something with varied locations, pretty visuals and satisfying gunplay.  Also something short like 4-6 hours.  Help me pick from these ones:

Deus Ex HR
Dishonored
Far Cry Blood Dragon
CoD Black Ops
CoD MW3
Battlefield 3
Bioshock Infinite
Metro 2033/Last Light

If youre after western AAA shootbang play a CoD game or Blood Dragon, Blood Dragon isn't too long (ie. doesnt get boring) and plays great.

Deus Ex and Dishonoured are stealth games and Deus Ex is more RPG than anything else, IMO.

Avoid Bioshock like the plague, pretty pictures can't save a game that poorly designed

Been playing Under Night In-Birth Exe Late, which is a 2D 'anime' fighter from the Melty Blood series developer.  It's an interesting game that has a bit more of a grounded approach (you can still do stuff in the air but in general a lot of the game is more OTG like Street Fighter) to it and a diverse cast of characters.  Nobody really plays like anyone else, which is nice.  I ended up going with Vatista, whose character design is totally not my thing (robo-loli-maid-thing), but her more defensive play style works for me.  Zoning bitches like crazy and shutting down their combo attempts is always awesome.

Here's some matches.

The game is coming out here next year, but I didn't see any point in waiting- the import was already $60.

Finished Spec Ops: The Line.  It's an interesting game, though it'd be more of a fantastic thought provoker like Silent Hill 2 and The Last of Us if it had a more interesting game as a vehicle to tell its narrative.  Still, was worth playing and a CoD shoot bang for people who roll their eyes at the whole military shoot brown people genre.

I really enjoyed that title. I admit I'm a sucker for TPS cover based gameplay, and the narrative was one of the more interesting ones I've seen in recent years. I saw it as a retelling of Apocalypse Now with an added sizzling deconstruction of modern military shooter gameplay.

Silent Hill 2 is on a completely different tier entirely, script wise it's dealing with an entirely discorporate kettle of fish.

I've been playing pretty much only tabletop Magic: the Gathering lately, hence my absence from the forum.

Planning to get back into Dark Souls 2 soon, and I'll roll the noob cannon (magic user) so I can clock the game or something. I've really dropped the ball as far as videogaming is concerned and I am eternally sorry

Been playing Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky. Been awhile since I played something this JRPGy, so I am adjusting a bit to it. From what I've played, the battle system looks to have potential. The music reminds me a lot of Secret of Mana.

Tried Orcs Must Die 2 for the first time.  Never played the original either.  This game is pretty awesome!  First tower defense game I've ever played and I'm loving the arcade-style pick up and play feel.  Interested in Unchained now.

I wouldn't wish The After Years on anyone, tbh.  Even Borys.  Wii version has it so you can take advantage of the RNG to get drops easier to get all characters in the final chapters, but the PSP version feels more palatable despite not having the RNG advantage.  Plus I never liked the new dungeons or characters in TAY either.

I'm a bit surprised he hasn't finished FFX yet despite finishing FFX-2 yet.

Play FFIV: Interlude. It's 1 hour long and easy to 100%.

I never played The After Years either.  Looked like copy & paste mobile shovelware and everyone said it wasn't very good.  I think that and FFIII will remain the non-MMO FFs I never play.  Though gotta play Lightning Returns too, but at least I want to play that at some point since the combat and gameplay seem neat.

Why won't you try 3? The Famicom one is rather good...

After Years has some great battles near the end (actually having to use debuffs in an FF game? Whoa...), but a lot of the game is pointless backtracking through areas you've been to already in FF4, with a storyline worse than my imaginary direct sequel to FF4 I sketched up when in 6th grade. The nadir is Palom's chapter (I think) where you have to go through the waterfall cave no less than 3 times.

I dunno, I'm still down to play SNES/Genesis/PS1 rpgs/games, but outside of like SMB1-3 I can't really play NES-era games.  They're too dated for me.  And the 3d FF3 that's been ported everywhere is kind of meh from what I played of it on 3ds before bailing.

For some reason, the default loadup doesn't have the mouse controls set up right. So at first, I was stuck on the loading screen. Other than that, it's been good. Easy to navigate menus with a save anywhere system.

I'm finally on-pace for Ao no Kiseki Evolution.  It's okay so far.  The music arrangements seem to fit the game better tonally than Zero Evolution's did.  I hope this is as good as a lot of people said it is.

Pretty sure I'll just drop Neptunia Victory for good.  I haven't played it in months and every time I try to play it, I get annoyed and shut it off.  The Neptunia games were never for me so I won't bother with this one anymore.  Just like how I dropped Ar Tonelico Qoga and Tales of Xillia 2.

After Ao no Kiseki, I guess it's onto Freedom Planet, Silva Saga, or Wild Arms Alter Code: F.  Was going to start Xanadu Next soon, but I think it's best to space out the Falcom games instead.

Finished all PSP Ys games. Seven was kinda ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

I'm a bit glad you didn't like Seven as much because it makes me feel a little better about my own opinion that Seven is lacklustre compared to Origin/Oath/Napishtim.

I thought 7 was great but that and Celceta seem to be getting a little feature creep going on... the best things about pre-7 Ys were that they were extremely streamlined, no tacked-on craft systems or party member changing or excess dialogue...

SpeedStats, I'd go with Silva Saga... not very familiar with that one so it'd be interesting to hear your thoughts.

I dont use any of the chars in Celceta/Seven (Celceta only for the achievements) -- and then the game throws a fuckin curveball at the VERY END where its split into 3 parts, and I have to use chars I have never touched at all. Thankfully each group had 1 person from my main team (Dogi, Geis).

Seven had the problem of the small world, so literally the entire game you do 2 laps both ways, to each temple. Totally killed my mood, for the most part.

I'm kinda hype for Xillia 2, so I wont be starting anything new. Will poke at Wonderful 101, and some Dead Nation on Vita.

been playing some random stuff on emulator together with that retroachievements site because i like watching number going ups and stuff being tracked, stuff i played

Ninja Gaiden - still frustating as fuck! it's not really an hard game per-se but the fact that 75% of the game is designed over knocking you into a pit it's super frustating and cheap! the fact that if you die at the final boss the game send you back to the start of the even more cheap than usual final stage instead of the closest checkpoint is really the final kick into the balls of the player

Actraiser - still nice, still nice, the sim part are really primitive and don't require much tought, just ought to wait for your civilization to grow which is why it's nice to play this on an emulator because you can speed things up, it also feels decently balanced, not hard but not a complete cakewalk either except for the final boss rush, which can be tough

Rhythm Tengoku - the idea of replaying this for shiny badge kinda tempted me, but to be honest between when i did play this to perfection the first time and the two other tengoku games, it's hard to come back... this is especialy true because compared to the two other tengoku games this is definitely harder, especialy that firework minigame, seriously fuck the firework minigame

Megaman X - like actraiser, it's good playing a sidescroller worth something, though the game it's easier than what i even remember... didn't we have someone here who tought megaman x was actualy hard? i don't remember who you are but i'm going to laugh at you anyway :heh

I found Rhythm Heaven ds harder to the point where it didn't feel fair. I just didn't like it as much as the gba one. A lot of the timing in Rhythm Tengoku ds felt so...off, particularly because you mostly had use a stylus on the screen, whereas RT gba only used buttons, and felt more intuitive to me.

Mega Man X is incredibly easy to the point where you can speed through it without any effort. It's insane. It's like a Sonic game where the game used to feel more challenging when you were younger, but the older you get the more mindless/brainless it gets.

It's summer time.

Know what that means? SHENMUE.

Oddly my second replay this year. Reminds me of when I first got the game and I played it two times in a row. :heartbeat Immediately started a game upon finishing it. :) I think I have two Shenmue moods: one is for summer time, because I first played the games in the summer. The other is winter because Shenmue 1 takes place during winter, and it just feels right. :heart

Going for undub this go around. I expect it to grossly enhance the game. Can't wait to hit Yamanose, Dobuita, and the harbor and re-experience the game like it's new. :)

Though I have to admit that I find the translated original text next to the Japanese voices distracting because...that's not what the dialogue is saying (voiced) at all sometimes! :lol

nah i don't agree, the DS one has a lot of good one like the ping pong one, the soldier birds one and... oh god the fu manchu one

:lawd

the original doesn't have any that it feels like it particulary stick out and it has a few that are just awfull (the quiz one for example) when it comes to the original the best thing about it is that some remix comes with actual songs in it, which give us things like the hilarious remix 5

Playing World of Tanks, enjoying short, low-Tier skirmishes more. As I have opened up higher-Tier tanks, I find myself on unfamiliar maps more frequently, which is never any fun. I mean, sure, I can stare at the full-view map until the counter ticks down, but learning the tactically advantageous positions is usually hard-won knowledge.

Maybe I suck at reading maps.

Tried the new F2P AirMech Blitz. I'll have to try a little harder, but right now I don't have any idea how the resource upkeep is managed, and the basic combat feels chintzy.

Need to get back to Batman: AA and enjoy some actually deep, non-confusing, immersive, escapist, triple-A bliss.

Picked up Sonic Colors and EDF 2025. I've beaten Colors before, but it was on a rental cause I was still in disbelief that a Sonic game could be good after the double whammy of shit that was Secret Rings and The Black Knight. Intended to pick up Mario Galaxy 2 but its still being sold for $30 used so eff that.

I'll get down to some bug killing action sometime this week while also chipping away at FEZ.
