Just started playing Arkham Knight. I don't understand the side quest missions. Do I just need to roll around until I find these extra side missions or something?

I think five of them are vague like that, yeah.  The most beneficial thing to do is take out the ground drones and then when you're able to, the air drones.  Doing so will let Cash redeploy cops to that island, which will let you listen to their radio coms to hear if they found anything related to a side quest.  For example, a cop will radio out saying something like "got a situation near Perdition bridge – looks like one of the missing firefighters has been taken hostage."

Using information like that, you can scope out that area.

Closer to traditional Hitman games, but in extreme episodic / season pass / buying an unfinished game format.

Just finished Sen no Kiseki/Trails of Cold Steel.  That ending WTF; this is totally not a finished development game.  What the fuck did I just spend 60 hours to get like 90 mins of plot movement and then CREDITS.  Arghhh; worst game in the series by far.  I would have been so pissed if I finished this when it came out and had to wait a year for the sequel.

More ok with Sen1/Cold Steel1 now that I've realized it wasn't supposed to be a complete videogame.  It's a lot more akin to a Ps1 jrpg disc 1, and Sen2/Cold Steel2 is disc 2.  It's half a game.

Started Airtight Games' DARK VOID today. It's kind of a mess. On ground, it wants to be a gears of war cover shooter, which it occasionally creatively turns into a vertically-oriented scenario. It starts with a Rocketeer-style dogfight, jetpacks against UFOs and then shifts to straight ground-based cover hallway shooting. There are audio errors all over the place; stuttering and overlap. The enemies are ammo sponges. I may just play through and delete it to get it off my HDD; this was a purchase which Capcom has since region-locked for non-USA download, so I had to download it on a friend's 360 during my last visit. Disappointed.

I hope they did a better job with MURDERED: SOUL SUSPECT, but I bet not. (checks wikipedia) Oh, crap. They're dead. Huh. I guess betting on the Ouya as a last stab was probably the lastmost of several weak choices.

Trails in the Sky FC is a complete game with a cliffhanger ending.  If you didn't have the cliffhanger ending, you'd never know the game wasn't over.  It builds up to the final chapter and then stuff happens, there's a final dungeon, there's a final boss, there's an ending...and then a cliffhanger after the ending and to be continued.

Trails of Cold Steel doesn't have a final dungeon, doesn't have a final boss, there's no ending, and it just cuts out midcutscene to the credits right when the story starts.  It's like if Trails in the Sky FC ended at the start of the final chapter with

The capital city being attacked and they rush in to stop the Coup and it cuts to credits and says "to be continued"
[close]

Also Zero/Ao split is even less connected than Sora FC/SC split.  At the end of Zero you have a complete story.  Everything is wrapped up.  There's a couple of larger world questions still unanswered but Ao is a new game, new story.  So Cold Steel splitting like this is a big step down.  But it seems like Cold Steel's split wasn't intentional and was because of FFXIII style HD development is hard problems they had so they had to just cut the game at a certain point and sell it to give them another year to finish the rest of it.

With Sky FC/SC and Zero/Ao I normally tell people not to play them back to back since you'll get burned out.  But Cold Steel/Sen 1/2 I would tell anyone I knew not to play #1 until they have #2 because you'll want to play them back to back so make sure you have a 120+ hours free.

I mean I'm already 4 hours into Sen/Cold Steel 2 and I wasn't planning on starting it for a few months, but that non-ending...yeah.  I need some satisfaction for all the 65 hours I put into Sen 1 with no payoff.

Finished Remember Me. Ehhhhhhhhh. The graphics, character models and world design are top tier AAA so kudos to that team. The game itself isn't badly designed, but it never ventures into any interesting mechanics and just feels like an incorrect bad facsimile of Batman games or something. It was okay enough to not be too boring.

The story though, sheesh. Some of the technological and societal concepts are kinda cool but the whole premise is butchered by your typical adolescent videogame storytellers. I imagine a lot of dialogue and pivotal plot moments were nutted out in a stinky boardroom full of obesity French nerds shitting and pissing in each others mouths. Definitely feel like I've lost brain cells after completing it. Oh well easy 1000/1000 :piss I give it 6/10, with the graphics and music accounting for most of the score.

I've got ONE achievement left to get in Spelunky, which is beat the game without collecting any treasure. I've made it to Olmec once and I threw pretty hard. I'll get it eventually and finally have all the achievements in the damn game. A real achievement!

Beat Guardian's Crusade (charming as hell!) and collected all the photos in Life Is Strange. I dropped Kirby and the Rainbow Curse shortly before finishing, now I'm going back and collecting the medals/treasures I missed. Won't do challenge mode since that seems like it'll be a bitch, I'll just 100% the main game levels. And I'm almost there, like 5 more to go.

Finished Remember Me. Ehhhhhhhhh.
You could finish that whole review right there.

It's sad but so many AAA visual and audio resources were cast on the barren shores of such an empty and halfhearted game. They tried some interesting stuff, but it never gels into a cohesive whole.  Traversal in the game could have been interesting, but they try to hard to handhold you all the way through it.  Memory hacking could have been more closely implemented in line with the main gameplay controls.

Sure was pretty though.

Remember Me is one of the most dull games I've ever bought, I don't care about why John Carpenter thought it was the best game of the year.

Good on the developers for moving to making Life is Strange, though.

Yeah, your guys' level of engagement with Life is Strange has made me very curious about picking it up. I'm interested in playing more from them, just not another action/traversal game.

It was enough to show me that it was a really boring hallway simulator with some atrocious platforming, jank controls and hilariously brain dead combat. I played a bit of it when it was free on PS+ and I got to the demo section. It was just as shoddy as the vertical slice they were showing back then.

Meanwhile, there were THREE open booths for Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen with no lines and this dumb ass didn't even touch it back then cause it looked like a shitty souls clone. I'm STILL mad at myself. :maf

Started playing Trails SC, only up to the first chapter though. Game seems a bit more challenging than the first game, the dungeons are a bit longer, bosses are a bit tougher, and resource management is much more important than the first (which was cake aside from a few of the chapter 5 arena battles).

"easier" is a pretty subjective thing in Souls. It's all about the build.

Catch-all boss advice is: have you tried grinding humanity and summoning an NPC/actual human asshole to assist? If you want to cheese a boss that generally works well.

iirc Qeelag is about mastering her attack sequences and just getting the hell away when she does her AOE attack. Souls is also about lots of practice and trying to keep your cool, and patience!

she has a pretty exploitable pattern, where you are able to get in real close and do some hits, back off and she'll always do her AOE attack, repeat. But I wouldn't call her one of the easier bosses since a couple of good hits have a good chance of killing you regardless of armor/def and it can be a bit tricky to navigate the various lava pools she lays down.

I tend to get stuck on her legs when she does her AOE attack or roll back into a sea of lava. I use a bandit built, souls level 36, mostly leveled up endurance and strength. Still using the starting weapon, upgraded to +5. Think this should actually be a decent built for her.

I also always run through the swamp and get poisoned, which means I have to invest 2 flasks to make up for the posion damage, which obviously doesn't help. The safe way takes too long and annoys me. I think I should be able to kill her if I could doge the heavy attack more reliable.

As for humanity. I still haven't grasped that concept. I have about 15 units of humanity in my inventory but barely ever used it. I heard that I can summon npcs but have never seen those signals the few times I approached a boss in human form.

you're right about your build being good.

are you not using moss (the item that heals poison) after running to the boss door? you shouldn't need to drink to shots if that's the case.

Humanity is a bit strange, but essentially consuming 1 humanity makes you human which gives you better stats (it would take you slightly longer to get poisoned, etc) and enables you to play with other players online, so you could summon players to help with the boss, tho you could also get invaded. If you are human and get to queelag's boss door there is a summon for a AI character, who is pretty helpful - does good damage and tanks heavy.

You can also use humanity to upgrade a bonfire, which means it gives you more flasks iirc. humanity isn't plentiful, but it's a useful investment if you are finding yourself in a tricky spot and could use more flasks.

I died a handful of times (and that run through the mud back each time sucks), but you gotta learn her instant kill activation animation so you can get the fuck out of dodge when you see her going into it.  I didn't even realize what was going on the first 2 times when I was doing good and then suddenly instant killed for just being near her.

I think she was the last boss I killed as well. I remember dying a couple times without ever knowing what had happened. As Bebsy says, there are an animation or two which mean "BE SOMEWHERE ELSE."  Her regular stuff wasn't too hard to learn to evade... (I think it took me three more attempts)

PRO TIP (RETIRED): Don't upgrade your zwei with lightning once you get to Anor Londo, prior to the church boss fight.  :'(

Yeah, I know that. Was the second bell I rang. I think level soul level wise (just shy of 40 if I use the souls from the Queelag fight) there a couple of areas I could tackle now (Darkroot basin/garden, catacombs, Sen's Fortress; Valley of Dragons looks to tough so far), but I'm not sure if my gear is good enough. Probably time for some roaming around until I have a better idea and testing some of the stuff I already have. The eagle shield I got in Blight Town is supposed to be good for melee, no?

Trails SC, making some good progress with the game but it's definitely a long one. I like how the game has a lot of sidequests to do, and some of them are a bit more interesting than the good ol' "kill 10 boars". Like, trying to catch a criminal by investigating hotel patrons or figuring out how the lighthouse light powers up. Battles are a bit more strategic and harder than the first TITS, although now that I have a 4 character roster, things have become a lot easier. It still takes a while to kill bosses though.

Started my Japanese PS4 edition of Uocchi Doggusu. I am soon to be awash in Ubisoft-standard levels of collect-a-thon. Will post updates to the main watch_dogs thread so I can maintain my Thread Necromancer title. So far the game is crazy gorgeous. I remember being so hyped for this when the initial teasers came out, and so sad when the actual product launched. I'm sure I'll get ¥1500 worth of fun out of it.

YMMV
