Piggybacking a ton of great stuff right now:

Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story- Massive improvement over the last game. Love the soundtrack.

Dead Space- First time playing this. On Chapter 4 right now. This has some of the best sound design I've heard so far this gen.

Demon Souls- Just took down the Tower Knight. Sooo satisfying.

Castlevania OoE- Playing through the Hard Mode right now.

Simon's Quest- It's been a long time since I've last played through this. I've been trying to see how far I can make it without using a strat. So far I have 4 body parts and a silver knife.

Machinarium- Adventure game of the year so far.

A Boy and His Blob- On stage 8. Simple so far, but very charming.

and Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD a little bit before work.

mmm

Real Talk. Is Batman a rent or a buy?

spoiler (click to show/hide)
What about dead Space
[close]

rent, rent.  both short.

Really, Batman is pretty short? My friend told me it was like 35 hours long or something. I'd love to sneak it in after Muramasa and before Shadow Hearts 3.

lol, Batman is like 10 hours tops and thats including getting all the riddler shit

the challenges are tough and add longevity but this is still a rental. (an awesome rental mind you)

as for me Im weeabooing it up this weekend:

so close to finishing Persona 3 it isn't funny

and playing Phantasy Star 2 with a pdf of the orginal pack-in hintbook. The game is actually funner with hintbook, otherwise its getting lost 50 times in one dungeon and getting boned by the baddies. I just got off the first planet so Im about 2/3 through I think

Yeah, I'm only about 1-2 hours in but it's really good.  My only complaint is that the difficulty is fairly high for an adventure game.  But I don't mind because that makes it more satisfying when you solve them.  The game does two things right that make it stand out: 1) It eliminates the endless talking which plagues most adventure games these days (talking is good if the writing is good; but more often than not the writing isn't good and the dialogue trees are ridiculously cumbersome) and 2) It limits your inventory and movement to a few screens at a time.  This gets rid of the backtracking that cripples and artificially lengthens too many adventure games.  So yeah, I'm really enjoying it.  Probably adventure game of the year for me too.

rented Bionic Commando, its fucking amazing. Playing on Commando difficulty so the snipers are a pain in the ass but Im progressing steadily. The music is amazing. Why did this get panned again?

I'm guessing as usual the soft cock gaming media couldn't handle a real game.

I'm guessing as usual the soft cock gaming media couldn't handle a real game.

It's got an 85 on Metacritic.  It wasn't the media that rejected the game, it was the public.  I'm guessing they were expecting an open world game when that pretty obviously wasn't the aim.

Whatever the reason, I was able to buy it for $10 because of its bombination, so I'm not going to complain.

I think the media panned it.  At least the major sites/mags:

GI: 6.25
Gamespot: 6/10
1up: C+
Eurogamer: 7/10
Gamespy: 3/5
IGN: 8/10 (everyone always expects IGN scores to be high)

It wasn't "this game is terrible" scores.  But the major sites basically said "7/10 - don't pay full price for this".  I don't really get the scores or public reaction either.  The game was a fairly straight-forward, but good, linear action game with only a few parts early on and the stupid Snipers that get annoying/confusing.

Who here had the stomach to get through DQ8?

How important is it to rigidly plan out your skill growth from the start of the game? I keep wanting to play the game but as soon as I look at one of these skillset guides it makes me say fuck this. However there is no DQ6 DS anytime soon so I want to try 8 again.

Samurai Warriors 2 still

I rank it well above DW Gundam.  I've finally got used to the wonky way of doing missions (essentially running from one side of the map to the next and doing more babysitting than I think I ever have for a Musou title) but the levels are still pretty nice looking to me.

Well, they did manage to hide it pretty well in a series of shit releases, Rearmed excluded. Then again, I don't think Joe Blow was at Best Buy thinking "Oh, Bionic Commando, by the makers of WANTED and TERMINATOR... must avoid." It's unclear how Capcom put such an effort into relaunching the series and promoting their internationalized efforts, only to have the whole thing come unraveled with this one title. In terms of what Grin did for Capcom, they're batting .500 or better, even if Grin's overall record is not as impressive.

Still, there are enough gamers whose opinions I respect saying "WTF? This is good!" that I'll have to try and nab the cheap copy. Ooh, Play-Asia's got it for 1810 yen...

So out of curiosity I was checking to see what old PS3 games/PSN games got updated with trophies and was updating the ones that did.  I was updating Flow with the trophy patch and umm...the game is different now?  I haven't played it since it came out, but the graphics are better with indicators pointing at stuff and the control seems improved in addition to trophies.  Was kinda surprised, but was cool.  If you own flow and never updated it's worth loading the game and seeing the improvements.

The updating on the PS3 is complete bullshit.  I put in Little Big Planet a few weeks ago after not touching it for months and I something like 11 updates I had to download before I could play it....plus you get a seperate install screen after each download.  Probably took 20 minutes. :/

I also remember wanting a quick game of Wipeout HD awhile back but found out that I had to download a 260MB patch before I could boot it. Tsk. Nevermind. Still haven't bothered to download that update.

What I did recently:

1000'd Pinball OMG feels good man.
1000'd ODST. Would dump it but I need Gaylo 3 achievements
Went back to Gaylo 3 and did the score achievements. Just need Annual and I can dump it and work with ODST online.
Sold some crap online so I can get some new gaymen.
Bought Boy and his Blob and want to cut my dick off. Will dump on ebay.
200'd Axel and Pixel. Neat game, better than that Lucidity crap.
Finished Muramasa, didnt and wont bother 100% or whatever. Fun game, surprisingly.
Beat Kingdom Hearts DS, absolutely hated it.
Diving back into Bubble Bobble Neo to finish that off, reading a food/item guide on gamefaqs. Got bumped to #6 on Arrange Mode, I'm ok with that.

Since finishing Pinball I've been completely worn out, I cant think of anything to play. Might even dive into Mass Effect now that the sequel is out next year.

-Finally tried co-op in Uncharted 2.  It's pretty cool how despite re-using the same areas from the campaign, you get different enemies/attack patterns and even a little bit of story here and there.  Fun stuff!
-Played so 4P firefight in Halo 3 ODST.  It's fun enough, but I'm just not feeling the game as much as I did Halo 3.
-Played more Way Of The Samurai 3.  Found this wandering psycho-killer guy at night, but he beat me down fast, and when I re-loaded the save and went back there, he didn't show up again.
-More Street Fighter IV.  I'd spend more time on Tekken 5 DR as practice for TK6 next week, but the fucking game is region-locked for online play, and I have the Japanese version.  Barely anyone ever on.

Should be playing UFC 2009 to pick up some easy wins in my local timezone now that it's had its Japanese launch.

Instead I'm still diddling around with Beatles: Rock Band, and trying to get the Gold Star 'cheevs with Solo Vocals. Not particularly easy, though I thought I could sing some of these songs. Most annoying was getting getting 244,400+ on Sgt. Peppers/Help from My Friends, which requires 246,620 -- only to try replaying the song and realizing that THE GAME CAN SENSE FRUSTRATION AND DEDUCTS POINTS FOR IT. I guess it is in opposition to the peace-and-love ethos the game espouses, but it's estranging me like Ringo.

Madden 2010: After finishing season 3 with a "not good enough to get in the playoffs" 9-7 record, I set off to the draft in the hopes of patching some holes. But a shit draft ensued. Well, not total shit. I picked up a promising HB that does well in Gore's absence because Gore get injured for what seams to be a quarter of every game. I reached on a WR because he was 6'5" but after 3 games, he leads the team in receptions and yards playing in the slot.

We are 3-0 on the young season though it could easily be 0-3.

Been playing more Operation Darkness... it's still awesome, but you have a few characters on your squad that if they die, you fail the mission instantly. The thing is, I have a god damn rezzer on my team, WHY CAN'T I JUST BRING THEM BACK FFFFFFFFFFF. I'm going for that 35 hour achievement too; I think I'm on pace to make it (12 hours in on Mission 11 I believe). As long as the missions keep averaging out to an hour each I should get it.

And even though the in-game models would barely pass as a first gen Dreamcast game, the character art is really well drawn.

I had a really, really good game with another Japanese player. The whole country here seems to be centered around fiber-optic-to-home scenarios. Even so, my house's wireless LAN adds its own special shittiness to the mix, so there is some issue. After the really smooth match, I was paired with some American, and it was just fucking impossible to play.

Play Bionic Commando! Its better than Batman in the sense of you actually have to aim at things to grapple them rather than push RB to climb any fucking statue.

The game is so, so hot. Im about 60% complete on Commando. A couple of times I almost threw my controller due to some broke ass janky fight but who cares! The music is 20x better than Buttman's and the story and VA is on a whole different level. The guy who plays Super Joe is particulary good

If you were cheap/desparate enough, wouldn't it be possible to just play a recording into the microphone?
It doesn't work on Rock Band titles, but it worked on Microsoft's own LIPS game. Hold the mic up to the speaker and it registered as voice input. :-\ Plus, I'm doing pretty well with the actual vocals, it's just really surprising to miss "FAB!" ratings on only two sections in one run, then miss a dozen or so on the re-take. :maf

that might work If chrono torrented a whole lot of Beatles accapellas lol
Actually, I wonder if anyone in the world has separated out all the various beatles parts through practice mode/optical out dig-it-all clarity; MASHUPS GALORE.

Getting close to finishing Demon Souls, so that's my main goal this week during gaming time.  I think I can do it in about 3 more days...

Having more fun with Mirror's Edge now that I'm playing it on Easy.  Still finding the inconsistent "grab" detection to be extremely frustrating, though

Just finished Uncha 2. Maybe I will go back to Devil May Cry 4 on Weiner Mode in preparation for that 40/40 Famitsu extravaganza

I just started up Raiden 4 and played that for a couple hours... that game is hard as nails compared to RF1, RF2 and RFJ. I mean, I 1CC'd those three games in only a couple tries; I'm pretty sure I'll never 1CC Raiden 4. Unless I'm missing something, it has to be the hardest game I've played on the 360. Only two people have cleared it according to the leaderboards...

Should be good practice for Mushihime-sama next month.
