Im not sure about a series, but Tales of Symphonia is probably the most overrated rpg Ive played.

Recent FF's are kind of like McDonalds. It's good when it's going down .. but you feel like shit afterwords.

The most overrated RPG is Planescape: Torment. People have put it on such a pedestal it's ridiculous. It's a very nice, unique RPG. But not worthy of top 5 of all time.

Y's Hate is stupid, since most of the series didn't even make it to these shores.

FF is overrated but still solid. just get's so much fucking hype.

As a FF fan, I will admit that Final Fantasy is no doubt the most overrated RPG. That doesn't stop me from loving a lot of the games personally, but a lot of the hyping and general praise is just ridiculous.
