well, I'm hoping at least this or Modnation Racers turn out good.  There has been a dearth of kart racers.

I'm impressed with the way this game is turning out.  I'm wondering what the catch of all of this is.  You know, knowing Sega and all.  If it has at least 16 tracks and online play, I might buy this.

If Banjo - a game that sold 5 copies - is your most recognizable kids mascot then you have problems.

Wonder who the Sony and Nintendo guys will be.

I'm cautiously optimistic but I expect the Sega factor will rear its ugly head and find a way to shit all over the game (yeah, I know it is Sumo Digital).  I won't be getting this on day one anyway ($20 or lower) so any glaring flaws would have been picked apart by then.

I liked the Hummer game's crazy hydraulics. The game is distinguished mentally-challenged but fun. The only problems are it's only 30fps and it has shitty load times. Tsc tsc

SEGA has revealed on the SEGA America Blog that Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing will allow players to race as their Mii in the Wii edition of the title. Just like the SEGA mainstays, Miis will have a unique "All Star" move that can give straggling racers a helpful boost.

The SEGA-centric racer is being developed by Sumo Digital, makers of the home ports of OutRun 2 and last year's Sega Superstars Tennis. Interestingly, the Wii version of the game is not the only one to get an exclusive feature. Rare's Banjo Kazooie and the Xbox 360's Avatars will appear in the Xbox 360 version of the title.

Looks like all versions will have an exclusive feature set for them. After beating MKWii, I've been in the mood for a new party racer and Sega just might pull it off here.

Dipping to 20fps is pretty poor even if it's not that often.  Brings up memories of PAL N64 gaming.

-Shitty frame rate
-Feels too chaotic at times, especially when you have a bunch of karts on the screen with the frame rate dipping
-Drifting felt kind of weird (with Sonic)
+Tricking to get speed boosts when landing is nice
+Looks like a nice selection of tracks will be available
+Frame rate aside, visuals are nice
-The announcer sucks
+Plenty of kooky items to use
-Character-specific power-up items seem overpowered and unfair

I read Darth Sol (a Sumo Digital employee who usually is on GameFAQs) has said the frame rate is an issue with the demo and will be cleaned up by the time the game comes out.  After playing it, however, I'm certainly not going to be picking this up at launch.  (Not that I was planning to, anyway)

Apparently you can turn the announcer off in the full game.

Here's the first review, from some UK mag I've never heard of.  Scans:

http://www.sonicstadium.org/board/sonic-sega-all-stars-racing-t1347-pid-120276-page-5040.html/page__p__120276#entry120276

So it looks like the characters are:

-Sonic
-Tails
-Amy
-Eggman
-Knuckles
-Big
-Shadow
-Banjo (360 only)
-Ryo Hazuki
-Amigo
-Beat
-BD Joe (Crazy Taxi)
-Alex Kidd
-Ulala
-Billy Hatcher
-Zobio and Zobiko (House Of The Dead)
-Jacky and Akira
-Ai Ai
-Bonanza Bros.
-Chus Chus and Rocket
-OPA-OPA
-Avatars/Miis

honestly, the drifting did remind me a lot of a broken Outrun 2, and the track didn't do much to help.

wow, where the heck did this come from?  first i heard of it was looking at the new demos in XBL marketplace.  downloaded it and just played a couple races and am blown away...

- 22 different characters/racers

- 24 amazing looking and unique tracks...scroll through the tracks when you're at the track select screen.  although they're greyed out, you can see how varied and fun and they look.  this was the most impressive part for me

- the graphics are great

- the driving mechanics and stuff are also great.  it's arcade fun and not too difficult to make turns etc

- the powerups are fun and better than mario kart.  you can get super power ups that are really fun

- sense of speed is there

- the bright colors and tracks look fantastic

- 8 player multi online, 4 player starscream
hey
