in 10+ hours of playing, the game freezes for the first time when I'm trying to do a run without saving :lol

Wait the original has no trophy support?  Lol, I think I'll just rebuy the US version.

*edit I stuck the game in to see if the JPN version got patched with the trophies and there was a big patch and it had to convert my save game file to work with the post-patch version....but no trophies :\

Most of the trophies seem like thing I won't ever do.  I mean, there are some for getting all the endings, but then there are some that are about mastering and collecting all the swords and shit like that.  There are 107 swords and 100+ moves for each style.  There are two silver ones that are deal with killing strong enemies, like Sensei in the dojo or assassinating the Lord guy.

The last run I played wasn't as good as previous ones since I was trying to see what the Lord route would be.  The only good that came from it was learning that the secret ninja association requires Yuma to be alive to progress past a point, and when the guards arrested the daughter of the farmer, I went to her brother, said "I was the one who told them about her" and he started to kick me while crying.

and it's pretty hilarious that this game looks like a PS2 game (not even a good looking PS2 game) and it still has frame rate problems.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
after getting something around 1200 points you just hold down the right bumper for 2 seconds to do DOUBLE SWORD ULTRA STAR KILL STYLE.  should be the same for ps3.

what is ni to ryu?

anyway, I bought all the scrolls and mastered double sword, double ninja sword and bare hand skills.  You can totally wreck people with your bare hands.  Catching blades and throwing them around and doing flips and shit.  I also unlocked he ability to play as any NPC in the game, so I could that little girl from the village and be knocking out people like it's nothing.

Ni to ryu is the two-sword style.

I haven't even beaten this once yet, LOL.  I'm finding it kind of boring now, TBH. Wandering aimlessly isn't that fun.

You can be any NPC once you get the option to play as them, them knock them out in-game.

You eventually unlock the option to play as any character you can knock out (pressing select switches your weapon from blade to blunt side).  The easiest way to do that is unlock hard by playing a few times, then select hard mode, beat up the two thugs harassing the girl in the village, eat a turnip, and leave.  It ranks you as vegetarian and gives you 1050 points.  You unlock everything relating to samurai points at 10,000.  That includes all the costumes, head, extra options (blood color, etc.) and a lot of accessories.

Basically, any NPC you knock out is later added to the list (there are 100+) to use.  You can customize them by adding various accessories (hats, glasses, devil wings, etc.) and select their animation style.  If you pick the little girl, for example, her default animation set has her moving really slow because of her skirt.

The only NPC you can't use are little kids and dogs.

surprisingly, the best npc isn't the young girl.  In one part of the game you

get attacked by one of the characters from Shinobido.  I knocked him out and play as a ninja.  Right now I'm actually trying to find him again so I can kill him and take his sword.

I felt the same until it kinda clicked and I began to understand it.  When I learned all the icons, the time and that I could quick move to location, it became all good.  I don't really wander unless I'm actually looking for random npcs to show up (Samurai Hunter, who has two ninja blades).  I'm played through many times and only got 5 endings (don't know how many total, but a trophy says there are more).

and yeah, the dual sword stuff is crazy strong.  In terms of sheer power, it can just shred strong enemies in a few hits.

For as much as I have played already, I haven't even done the sword creating yet.  I have really good parts that I don't want to waste on a style that I don't have all the skills for yet.

I just played the game for a bit.  Not really sure if it's for me now.  I may end up trading it in, but I'm going to keep playing first.

Will buy this cheap on 360.

how cheap? because this game isn't even worth $10.

love how you'll get the same jobs over and over again. i found grannies undies 4 times my first playthru and on my second game she gave me that same job twice in a row.

and i knew the graphics were going to be total shit but what i didn't expect was the extreme slowdown that occurs when only 10 enemies are on screen.

this game fucking blows.

Damn Jansen, that's pretty harsh!   :o  The game's far from shit, but it does have issues.  I think I am indeed selling it for Tekken this week...just not feeling it.

As I said, the game is probably not for a lot of people.  I'm guessing you guys didn't play the past two games either, or just went in not realizing how the games are played.  WotS3 is actually more accessible than the last two.

I played this game a lot (to the point where I "finished" playing just yesterday) and I only did that underwear finding job once.  The only jobs you need to do are at the Castle to get in good favor with Shuzen to assassinate him.  Just getting money is never important.  All you need to do is kill the leader of the Ouka clan and they pay you 1000 yen every (in-game) day.  Then buy what you want, kill the merchant and get your money back.

And just about getting the same jobs, I don't think you understand that the game is basically like Groundhog Day or Dead Rising in that you are literally playing through the same period of time again.  Everything is reset except for your items.  As I said above, the jobs serve no real purpose either unless you want the achievement (and if you do, go find the guys who want you to cut up Tuna since that upgrades your blade as you slice it).  The game is more accessible since it tells you where to do on the map and you can quick jump to any of those locations right away.

It has a lot of issues, but if you don't understand how the wots games are played, it would probably seem awful right away.  The graphics, combat and most things you'd expect from a normal game aren't very good.  Even though I played for a long time, I still think the combat is pretty bad.  Load times are awful and the graphics are bad for the PS2.

um no i fucking understand that you're playing the same period of time each time you start over again. that much is pretty goddamned obvious. besides i STILL got repeat jobs in the same damn game. the distinguished mentally-challenged developers should of used what little brains they have and figured out how to make sure you never get the same job twice in the same playthru.

and while i'm going on about the jobs lets talk about just how goddamned dumb they are. push granny to the toilet? find the radish thief and beat him (chasing him and any other chase'em job like this is dumb)? seriously let's not make excuses for poor game design.

now i'll list what i like:

death being permanent (even though you can sign out of your profile or reset your system to bypass it)
the combat (can you manually switch targets? that's my only complaint about it)
choose your own adventure style of gameplay

but the jobs, horrible slowdown in big battles, smallish world divided into sectors, no minimap and tons of other crap make for a shitty game.

ok, that's a shame then.  Return it or stop playing if it makes you so angry.  I enjoyed it a lot.

btw, there are apparently supposed to be 29 endings.  The first game only had about 6.  I don't know how different they get since I've had two endings that were very similar.

i'm not really angry it's just my tolerance for mediocre or poor games is at an all time low these days. i used to be able to play any old game, no matter how bad, and derive some amount of enjoyment out of em.

i blame all the bad jrpgs that i've played. :'(

I've played the first two.  It's not difficult to understand how the games are played; it's pretty shallow overall, but benefits from having all the choices you make affecting the game outcome.  That's great and all, but the execution could have been done better.

I'd still get WoTS1 and 2 on PSP if they ever come out in English, but as it stands, the best games from Acquire are Shinobido and Tenchu 4.
