“ELECTRONIC GAMING MONTHLY” FOUNDER
EXECUTES CONTRACT TO ACQUIRE PRINT AND ONLINE
PUBLISHING RIGHTS TO EGM MAGAZINE

BEVERLY HILLS, CA, May 29, 2009 — Steve Harris, founder of “Electronic Gaming Monthly” magazine, announced today that he has entered into an agreement with Ziff Davis Media to re-acquire certain assets, including trademarks and publishing rights, with plans to re-launch EGM in the second half of 2009.

“The re-launch of Electronic Gaming Monthly represents a welcome opportunity to continue delivering quality content to gaming enthusiasts,” said Harris. “I feel honored to once again be associated with this respected magazine. The talented writers and designers who built upon EGM’s original vision have left behind a publication that is uniquely positioned to be successful.”

“Electronic Gaming Monthly is and always has been one of the most respected publications among the gaming enthusiast community,” said Jason Young, CEO, Ziff Davis Media Inc. “We are pleased that EGM is now in the hands of its original creator, Steve Harris, and wish him and the publication the best of success in the future.”

“We have exciting plans for the evolution of what will once again be a leading independent voice for the gaming community,” Harris continued. “The twenty year success of the EGM brand has always been built upon a commitment to its readers who I believe will enthusiastically embrace the changes we are planning to introduce.”

Additional details and future announcements will be made during the upcoming E3 expo and posted on the magazine’s official website at www.EGMNOW.com or via the official EGM Twitter account at www.twitter.com/EGMNOW .

Glad to see them back, and not under the auspicious of shitty Ziff Davis management that wants to own everything now.

I know it will never happen, but if Steve Harris could get EGM back to its glory days from the early-mid 90's, I'd buy a subscription!

That would be interesting. I think I still have all the original issues sitting in a box in the basement somewhere, if they survived floods of years past.

My parents threw out all the old mags my brother and I still had left over from the late 80s/early 90s years ago.   :'(  Even had the infamous "Ace Combat review" September 1995 Gamefan in pristine condition in the attic until they got to it.

I had the first EGM issue up until about four years ago when I let my dad throw out a bunch of crap in storage.  Oh well.

I did too.  Although my excuse is that I was just a kid, and once I got to a more mature age (like 12, lol) renewal was stopped.  I did enjoy it in the late 80s/early 90s, but nowhere NEAR as much as EGM (and later EGM2) and Gamefan.  I liked Next Gen too, but seem to remember generally not agreeing with most of their reviews.  I thought the N64 was a piece of steaming shit and loved the issue that proclaimed "Quality Over Quantity?  We don't think so" and showed pictures of crappy Midway games and the like.   :lol

Remember all the weird comics Gamepro used to have?  The Adventures of Gamepro and the Flying Warriors comics?  Weren't there Johnny Turbo propaganda comics in there too?

Best mag for a fighting game/animu fan back in the day was Game On! USA.  It had import coverage, reviews, and serialized game manga like Samurai Shodown and Super Street Fighter II Cammy.  It didn't last more than six issues.   :'(

I basically only read ZD mags, so I was subscribed to EGM for as long as I can remember (was a HUGE EGM fanboy, holy shit). Never did subscribe to any other gaming mags, besides Game Informer through the Edge card. Could never stand GamePro, even when I was like 10.

Yeah, the Sendai EGMs were the fucking BEST.  It felt like they began to go downhill after 1995 though.  By that point I was getting a lot of info from newsgroups anyway and no longer cared as much.
