Tolkienesque is the super boring tripe that plagues every other work set in Western fantasy. God forbid Zelda would try to have its own identity. Toon Link has a fun vibrant world with lots of charm to it. It feels like the natural evolution of the 2d zeldas with all their whimsy. You goddam man-elf lovers have ruined this franchise.

I don't care how they do it as long as it plays great. My preference is for Link to seem more like an explorer than a warrior, but it really doesn't matter. And also I would prefer a more simple look, not exactly like Wind Waker, but not trying to be highly detailed. Maybe like how Mario Galaxy has a middle ground, they can do something similar to Zelda.

Completely agree with Tristam. I really like the personality of the Wind Waker world, but the older Zeldas were dorky cool. Zelda doesn't need to be dark or serious though.

Here's the problem. When you take a more "realistic" approach to the character designs on a conceptual level, the drabness translates into the game as a result. We then end up with fugly twilight princess with fugly environments and unappealing npcs. But, I'll play it if there's some fresh ideas in it. My one wish is that they use the pointer for more natural item usage. Z-Targeting is a relic of primitive 3d controls that needs a less restrictive alternative.

I think people care more about a design being proportionate first, and then any attempts at 'badassery' second (seriously, earrings being overkill? the fuck...?).

So yes, the original Zelda artwork would be acceptable.

Link was kiddie looking in almost every zelda before OOT though. all the art for LoZ, LTTP, LA...etc had him cartoony looking.

Eh, I think he's noticeably taller and older looking in the face than TP Link. Looks about a couple years older. TP Link I can guess was around 17 years old, this Link looks around mid 20s.
