It is beyond me how anyone could be truly excited for Super Mario Galaxy Again 2. Nintendo was miserable, but it doesn't matter, now does it?

I actually liked the Reach teaser trailer even though nothing was shown but then I remembered how colossally stupid the Halo story was and then felt ashamed of myself.

*sigh*

Boy Bungie really fucked that storyline up.  It could've been so much better.

Same reason people can be excited for another Call of Duty, another Tony Hawk, another Splinter Cell, 2 more Halo games, etc. with the caveat that Galaxy is the best game released so far this generation.

Not sure why people are dogging Galaxy 2.  If you've played a WRPG or an FPS, you've most likely played recycled content, whether you want to admit it or not.

I'm not dogging it. I just don't see how anyone can get overwhelmingly excited about it.

Well, it's more Super Mario Galaxy, I mean it seems like a pretty easy one to figure out to me.

It didn't send me over the edge like some people, but I played it to the end and I think it's fair to lump it with the best games of 2008.  The difficulty was pretty good.  You did some things over and over but it tended to keep you motivated to nail it, a bit like classic platformers.

Going from the trailer, SMG2 looks to be a mix of SMG and classic Mario gameplay.  A winning combination IMO.

I mean, in terms of a 3D platforming Mario. I was sure it was going to be like Sunshine where you only got one of those and the rest of Nintendo shit was waggle shit.

well they did 1 Mario and 2 Zeldas on their last two console hardware platforms, this time they're probably doing 2 Marios and 1 Zelda instead.

Yes, it is.  I'd say its only rival is Yoshi's Island.  Pick up Donkey Kong Jungle Beat Wii if you never played the bongo version. Same team.

Depends on what you like.  My collection:

Toki Tori- Trial and error.  Use items and carefully plan your route as you collect eggs to clear a stage. Awesome music. Nifty.

Tetris Party-  You could probably get a better freeware version.  Otherwise solid rendition with a few cool new modes such as stacking tetrminos so a guy can climb to the top. Online.

Bomberman Blast- Strictly multiplayer. I wish online matches went for more than two rounds. Need to play this more.

Bit Trip Beat: Pong+Rez. Only three stages but tooouuuuggghhhh.  Uses the wiimote tilt like a paddle.

World of goo- Tower building game.  Lots of hyperbolic praise out there but its not completely unwarranted.  Can be frustrating when trying to pick a specific goo ball when they're condensed.

Gradius Rebirth- snes romhack effort. Decent fun but I'm not in a position to compare it to the rest of the series.

Megaman 9-  hmmmm multiplatform

I'm omiting games I haven't played alot like Maboshi's arcade. Feel like I'm forgetting something.

Cubello is pretty fun and could get a bit addicting from time to time... there are definitely worse ways of spending 600 points. I didn't like World of Goo or Lost Winds (I think I'm probably the only one who didn't care for either, everyone else seems to love them). MM9 is of course amazing, and I'm dying to try the new Contra and FF4: The After Years.

Sin and Punishment on VC is also a must.

Is that ODST demo going to be downloadable anytime soon? I'd love to have a clue about what separates it from Halo 3. The stuff in the trailer makes it look identical.

So I went to E3 today, and tried out a bunch of stuff.

NSMB: Wii - I thought the game would look better in person, and it did, but just barely (Seriously, this looks like one of the laziest efforts by Nintendo for a big name game in recent memory. Smash Bros. Melee looks better than this!). They only had the multiplayer sections up, so that kinda sucked but meh, it was actually pretty fun. I could see it definitely being enjoyable with friends. The propeller and penguin suits were nice new additions and added to the game, unlike NSMB DS's  near useless gimmicks. I have to say though, I don't really like the physics that much. I felt the same with the original, and the weight just doesn't feel right. Almost all the other Mario games had a better sense of momentum, so it's kind of a shame they had to use this particular one. Still, it's not a deal breaker, and it still does for the most part control very well.

Uncharted 2 - As I was passing along the Sony booth, I was accosted by a Sony employee who gave me some post card thing that allowed me to try the Uncharted 2 Beta. I was all like 'oh yeah i'm sure that's gonna happen  ::)', but seeing as how I was right there and the rep had a 'they're gonna take away my thumbs!' look on his face (it seemed like they were having difficulty getting people to play, since almost all the terminals were empty), I said ok. I never played the first one, but I really liked one of the locations. Graphics were SICK. But that's about it.

God of War 3 - The game almost feels like a whole different beast in 30 fps (so much for cell :smug), but it does look real good.

King of Fighters XII - Played a little. Looked absolutely gorgeous.

Oh, Magna Carta 2 was playable! Definitely a game of the show contender, obviously.

Sadly I didn't spend too much time a the convention center, since I started getting hungry and hell if I'm gonna eat from a place that charges $5 for a 4 oz. bottle of water.

I may have to retract some of my hype, and although I didn't spend too much time at Microsoft's booth, I guess I'll say they impressed me the most, simply out of spite.
