I was in the same predicament until a few weeks ago. Shit sorta happens I guess but the thing is you have to be proactive. I flipped from an introvert to an extravert. And anyone who tells you to join a club while has good intentions is a bit of moron.

The last time I took a long walk here I got sun poisoning. Florida sun is no joke.

However, today I did get some awesome pictures of an abandoned, decrepit orange...factory? Cannery? I dunno. It had lots of buildings and said Bo White's Oranges on them. Of course, I got the pictures because I tried to go to four different springs in the area, and all of them were full. Today must have been some sort of holiday no one told me about.

I dunno, I don't usually have a hard time socializing, it's just that I JUST got here and I don't have a job or anything yet. Bleh.

Work helps a lot not neccessarily to make friends there but just using your social skills, approaching people etc so thats part of the problem.

IME that really depends on the girl and the context. e.g. girls who get told they're pretty all the time don't like to be told they're pretty, but girls who don't do. so if you have some peculiarity of taste that leads you to think some girl most guys think is ugly is pretty, you should tell her. er, but don't bring up the most guys think she's ugly bit.

I've known the girl for years, we used to work together until I left that place about 3 years ago. I taught her accounting and she worked under me (

), she's about 25 or so, I'm 30. We catch up for social drinks or lunch about every month or so. So I know her reasonably well.

I rang her with an incredibly lame line, something like: "would you like to go out for dinner, but only if you bring your awesome calculator". She had been telling me all about it the day before at drinks. Accounting joke.

We laughed a bit, she said "what did you have in mind?" I felt relief and my heart pounding reduced from jackhammer-level to mild earthquake-level.

I said "I didn't think that far ahead, but I'll email you with some ideas next week and then you can suggest somewhere else and we'll go there". Another lame joke based on our history.

Laughed a little more, said goodbye. Emailed her this morning and she's still interested. Score.
