I'm driving home from work today, and I'm in western Greensboro where I-40 and I-840/I-73 split, and I see dude take the 40 route but then keep going straight as the road curves off to the right so it can go up a hill and then veer back over the traffic passing beneath. Anyway, dude's going straight through the grass doing 60, no brakes, no swerves, then goes airbourne over a huge drainage ditch before crashing into the other side. Airbags deployed, car totalled. The guy had apparently passed out beforehand, but was otherwise OK I believe, although the paramedics did the whole neck-back stabilization thing and took him off to the hospital. If it was wrestling, he'd run out later with a chair and take out his unsuspecting tag team partner. Strangest thing I've ever seen happen on the road.
I've often wondered at the fact that as often as traffic accidents happen, I've never actually seen one at the precise moment it was happening unless I was involved in it. Oddly enough, that thought once again passed through my mind as dude was careening through the grass at highway speed. "This could be it!"
