I seriously hope I get this daggum job.
We're about to start to redo a client's website
for the third freaking time in the past two years and they're really driving me crazy. This time, it's really just a reskin, but between this and all of the stupid, useless enhancements they're always having me do to the site...
It's like the study I heard about in church one Sunday. Some psychologists went to an area and advertised work for some sort of decent wage. They got some people and basically took them all outside, handed them a shovel and said "dig a hole." And so they did, they worked at it all day, and towards the end of the day, they told the people "now fill it back in." And, of course, the people were obviously confused and grumbled amongst themselves about digging a hole all day just to fill it back in. After the day was done and the hole was filled back in, they told the people "if you come back tomorrow, we'll pay you double."
The next day, less people showed up. They were given a shovel and were told, once again, to dig a hole. At the end of the day, they were again told to fill it back in. Confusion, grumbling, etc. And again, the call went out, "come back tomorrow, we'll pay you double."
The third day, less people showed up. Dig, fill, grumble, come back tomorrow.
The fourth day, nobody showed up. The work was so useless, so unfulfilling, that no matter what the wage offered, nobody wanted to do it.
That's basically me. Everyday here, particularly with this client, I feel like I'm digging a hole and filling it right back in. Everything I work on goes unused. They've spent tens of thousands of dollars, perhaps hundreds of thousands, on rewrites and enhancements since I've been here. I've spent countless hours and nobody ever uses what I've done. And now they want to do it again.
