lolz typos

Anyway, that TV is a fuckin' KILLER deal -- $950 (normally $1500, $550 discount) at Fred Meyer. Picture is clear and the colors/contrast are ridiculously good.

Samsung TVs have this (forced) DNIe technology which makes colors look a lot richer, but the cost is more contrast. The tech also enhances the white so things are brighter, but of course because of contrast the darks will be that much darker.

They started including a "game mode" in the setup menu that adjust the settings just for game playing, but I think ive tweaked the Brightness Contrast to produce a better balance that takes advantage of the DNIe tech and keeps the contrast under control.

I BASED ALL MY TESTS ON STARGATE ATLANTIS, which has some interesting lightning in a few episodes. HOWEVER, the very few complaints leveled against Samsung TVs usually revolve around their color enhancement tech since nullifying the MINOR drawbacks requires a little bit of work.  My old Samsung EDTV had the same issue for different reasons so its old hat to me lol.

The TV does 720p and 1080i. 1080i works fine in most situations but faster games like doa4 don't seem to jive with it. TVC pointed out it was a launch game, and to be fair, R6 CAN get fast at times too and I have no problem at all with it in 1080i. However, I have trouble telling the difference between the two anyway. It sorta reminds me of the jump from s-video to component in terms of color representation vs the jump from composite to s-video. Im sure there's an improvement buts I cant seeeeez it.

ALSO CALL OF DUTY 3 OMG OMG OMG R6 OMG OMG OMG.

It looks like hooking it up to a PC is easy so I am considering maybe sneaking my small pc into the entertainment center and watch itunes in the living room lol. Or get the wallmount so I can feel rich even tho im not.

How does a monitor with a 1366 x 768 resolution do 1080i? Just because it accepts a 1080i signal doesn't mean you're viewing it in 1080i, you know...

Bacon: Your uneducated guess is as good as mine. It says it does 1080i so I assume its 'doing it' in some fashion.

I assume it's taking the 1080i input signal and scaling it to 720p.

Bacon, it's using several of the same horizontal LCD rows to show different lines in alternating fields -- hence the weird effect MAF is seeing in 60 fps games like DoA4. (1080i is really just 540 lines per field, with even lines from the frame buffer in one field and odd lines from the frame buffer in the next field.) It works because most playback is at 24-30 fps for DVDs, not 60.

Yeah, 1080i on a TV that doesn't actually HAVE 1080 pixel rows seems a bit "hacky" to me. It looks pretty bad on my 1280x720 Sony TV.

Don't you have the same TV as me Drinky? Did you ever fuck around with the service menu? I saw some stuff on AVS but I don't want to fuck up my set too bad. I know you can reset it to factory settings but still...

50" Sony rear-projection? (Can't remember the model number.) Yeah, think so. You can get it to do 1080i, but it isn't pretty. Besides, 720 is soooooo clean on it!

There was talk about changing stuff in the service menu to tone down some of the reds (red push fix) but I never really tried to do it.

720p seems to be the way to go even if a tv will do 1080i. Again, im mostly just too lazy to switch it for games that dont support it lolol
