THEY GOT RID OF THE JAGGY SHADOWS!

Thank you!

I think that was my biggest complaint about the first game.  :lol

Anyway, that ME2 video looks pretty awesome. I like how the cutscenes feels more...dynamic. Rather than the standard Bioware "alternating shots of people standing around while talking to each other" like the first game was filled with.

Oh and flying cars. :hyper

you should try to get past that first part.  Mass Effect has a really horrible start that makes most jrpg look good.  It really picks up after that.

no i don't ^

I might download it again sometime. I like dialogue trees and all but the beginning... I couldn't keep my mind concentrated on whatever they were saying.

Yep. Even tried replaying today. Quit within the first 30 minutes. You really have to love wasting time, to finish this game.

In my humble opinion. MGS4 was chatter heavy, because a 20 year old plot had to be laid bare, in 1 game. MGS3 or MGS1 aren't like that.  I don't count MGS2, because that was the bastard child that no one wanted.
I don't personally really, pay that much attention to the small details of the story. However, the Metal Gear Solid series does undisputedly,  have the best voice work in our industry today. Couple that with the great western translators in charge of delivering it to us as complete as possible. The Metal Gear Solid series compensate for heavy story, with  moments where complete, unique and never before seen approaches are taken, in order to capture the mind of the gamer and unify him/her with the virtual world, Microwave scene MGS4, Psycho mantis MGS1,  The Sorrow MGS3, it's pretty much a silent promise that ALL Metal Gear Solid fans know and hold dear.

MGS is formed in away, that you'll recognize and actually feel in sync with the characters. I haven't seen a game do that  to me, from my personal experience.

Listen to the way the reviewer speaks about the story and the characters. The story of MGS has managed to form a relationship with it's familiars.

i obviously played a different MGS to these people :/

Mass Effect, yup - really slow start -too much chitchat etc...
but once it starts it's great.

you can find nothing interesting in the ME world and characters? no mystery at all? Seems odd given that the whole thing is about one big mystery.

I mean, it's not the greatest story ever, but it's an insanely well constructed and believable game world.

also the machines talk in clicks :O and Wrex is a better character than every character in MGS.
plus, space pussy.

Actually, I find the approach to be very interesting [ How you have to pursuade the council, and expose your enemie etc.] it's great. By far, the best RPG [ is it one?] I have EVER, played. And I don't like RPG's to be honest. Puts shit like FF to shame.

Mass Effect had a fine story, it just had the usual Bioware/rpg shit way of telling it.  Alpha Protocol seems to be fixing that by having a time window for when you can reply.  Mass Effect 2 even is doing things where the dialogue goes on as you drive or during some action.  I remember when they first showed the game they talked about how dynamic it was to pull out your gun R Kelly style to intimidate the other guy.  Then you play the game and it's just everything on the right is good, then on the left is evil.

actually, the world they created was really interesting.  The idea that humanity sort of inherited deep space travel from other species instead of creating it on their own.  The human race was the new race amongst bunch that was already there, especially Sheppard as the first human spectre.  They even made effort to not have every alien be a two armed, two legged humanoid with different skin.  Though, most were just so gear and shit like that would make sense.

i have several friends who love the MGS story line and characters, but i simply cannot get into them. I've tried to figure out why and the only weak explaination is that i can't put my finger on the tone of the series.

Is it supposed to be rediculous over the top and fruity and i'm supposed to laugh at some of the moments?
or a mix of that AND some sort of hollywood style blockbuster cheese with a deeper meaning?

Now , my a couple of my friends say "it's both! just relax and go along with it" but i really can't do it. I don't mind the games, loved the first one, really really enjoy the first half of the 4th one , but i have to tune out the story and the characters.

Actually, at first, i quite liked Drebin, but after a while he ended up another cartoon creation.

I personally think Kojima makes good characters, but he always seems to have to f'ck them up with twenty tons of Japanocheese + silly sauce. Again, i am guessing that's what i'm supposed to enjoy about it, but i just can't enjoy it.

Your friends are right, it's both. Don't worry, I like Drebin too. Unfortunately, he too fell victim to the Japocheese sillines. We're on par.
The secret is to just enjoy the hell out of the games, don't think too much about the story. Actually, it's quite entertaining to see how long some codec convo's last. The ones with Rose for instance, they piss the hell out of me, I just end up jiggling her bags of sand. Did you see what just happened there? Kojipro knew that would happen, so they incorporated that minute and useless sixaxis jiggling.  That sort of stuff, it's like MGS games speak to the player.

I love the cheese of the MGS series, and think Bioware games take themselves WAAAAY too seriously... Still need to give Mass Effect a go, but I wasn't too keen on what little I've seen of the combat system.

The combat looks much better than in the first, hopefully there is a better and more various selection of weapons. It looks like the squad commands are still wonky though.

had some extremely simple level layout design. like if you were to create a "third person shooter cover layout for dummies" book, that video follows it to the letter.

It's a demo level of a game that's still 9+ months from release.  It might just be for E3.  It might not be final.  Who knows.

And it's an RPG.  You know that, right?

Stats and loot are much more important gameplay features.  Also, your shooting skills matter VERY LITTLE in this game (did you even get past the first planet in ME1?) compared to how you use tech and biotic powers.  I mean, your reflexes don't matter any more in Mass Effect than they did in KOTOR so complaining about cover mechanics means nothing really.

That it doesn't affect the gameplay.

I agree that it might make the environments more boring to look at where the building interiors in the first game were mostly copy-pasted.  But what you where complaining about was how the actual game will play when it doesn't sound like you got past the tutorial planet.

It sucked.  But it doesn't really matter.  It's an RPG demo.  The level design isn't the point

And it's amazing how you can judge level design based on a few short clips that just show a few random glimpses of a much bigger level.

Point being? Your complaint is stupid.  Bring something better to the table!

I guess that's a good idea.  The story would get boring if you had the same side-characters whose backgrounds you already know.  I just hope they make it easier to find Krogan and Quarian armors.

Also, I hope that they improve the facial editor.
