The mission they showed on stage had a really natural flow to it, and I got the same feeling from the Splinter Cell Conviction demonstration. I guess that's another thing they have in common, and that makes them both seem all the more awesome. It's going to be a good Fall for fans of action (adventure) games.

wow @ duckman. again.

As far as being an answer to Gears, Gears 2 is such a broken shitfuck mess in multiplayer that the Uncharted beta alone is enough to surpass it.

wow @ duckman. again.

WTF did I do now? Some dude claimed that he didn't understand why people were gassed about it, and I found that pretty incredible given the state of modern (HD) games. Direct your bitching elsewhere, it's completely off target this time.

I dunno, it seems like a bunch of other people had no problem disagreeing with BrandNew in one post instead of flying off the handle and posting the same thing 5 times within the first 10 posts. I guess I should expect this for the next few months until you buy it, then debate even opening it or trading it in a week later.

Seems like I was maybe giving the dude some grief for making a real :wtf argument, but I guess that's just totally off-limits around here. Take your critically transparent little bloody serious policing act elsewhere.

If we're talking about how awesome Splinter Cell looked, I can totally hype that game up more.  I saw three different videos of that same missions and each one was completely different with the exception of that final area.  A lot of the gameplay elements they have sound really simple too.  The white outline that appears is the your last known position for the enemy, so you can let them see you there, know where they think you are, and sneak up from behind.  Even the quick take down thing is based on vats like points that need to be filled up through regular take downs.  So if there are four enemies in the room, you would only be able to take out three with the pistol.  If you use a shotgun, that takes up even more points, but it has the added benefit of blowing a hole through cover or a door.

I'm pretty jazzed for Conviction.  Only issue is that the frame rate is iffy, but it's not final yet.

Yeah, it was pretty insane. Watching the conference playthrough was alright, but rewatching it now, there's a lot more to it than I initially gave it credit for. I'm also growing to appreciate the way they sped Sam up and tied together the motions and movements, feels more realistic for the character. I started up Chaos Theory again last night, and while I still love the game, there are some things that feel really artificial.

The framerate and tearing isn't all that great of a concern given that there is always the PC version if the console version isn't up to snuff, but I do hope they also update the enemy behavior a bit.

first one sucked, but if this installment is more tomb raider and less gears of sahara, i'll get it

still, nathan drake is a vile character

Was just listening to 1up Yours or ListenUp or whatever the fuck it's called while I was at work today, and Adam Sessler called Nathan Drake "one of the all-time great video game characters"

oh, did i do the laughs

Also, someone on there hit almost every one of my Project Natal points, people are going to think I ripped that dude off :(

I'm guessing since this is E3, ND is focusing more on the action bits.

I agree with Sessler about Nathan Drake.  One of the best character created in the video game industry.  Maybe he needs a damn cat helmet on him for the bore to accept him.

The only other three characters in gaming worth mentioning are Big Boss/Solid Snake, Ryu Hayabusa and Sun Shang Xiang.

the fact that nathan drake is now considered an amazing gaming character is a sad indictment of the lack of good characters in gaming over the last 5 years

I like Nathan Drake because he's just a likable guy, which is SEVERELY LACKING in the game industry.  All the leads are fucking silent/schizo j-emos, GARRRR space pirates, crappy anti-heros and usually just very UNLIKABLE characters in general.

That's why I like Drake and the Prince in the new PoP.  They are just the comic, heroic nice guy mold that gets the girl and makes the quipps.  Original?  No.  But far more likable than all these I grunt and kill your ass guys.

Although I think 50cent is one of the best lead characters this gen.  His unintentional hilarity is amazing.

I'm not too jazzed on Uncharted 2 but I don't have a PS3 and third person shooters aren't my thing.  Drake is a decent enough character.  Drake is more cheesy 80s action star/direct to video action star, which beats the hell out of what passes as video game character personalities these days.

Nathan is a cool character, i like him. Plus i feel like i look and sound like him so when i'm playing the game it makes it all much easier for me to feel like i am the character.

the bore as a whole liked uncharted just fine, we just didn't stick fingers up our asses and wiggle them around while playing or anything:

No. I'm definitely excited.  But I could see how someone might not be to hot on it, especially if there is a greater focus on gunplay over exploration and platforming.

The only standout part about him is that there is character even when playing the game.  Like, just flinching when bullets are hitting the cover sell his character.  Compare it to GTA4 where Niko in cutscenes and gameplay were two completely different people (both sides of Niko are still boring).

Other than that he's alright.  It is the feeling that there aren't that many good characters if he is seen as one of the best.  But people also think Master Chief is really cool and I don't get that either.

The thing about Nathan Drake is that he isn't this "iconic" image/character of a franchise, he really does act like just a natural born jackass, there's nothing "epic" about him.

Master Chief is a great character in the same way Robocop is a great character, it's just badass. Marcus Phoenix is a great character in the same way Dutch in Predator is a great character, Solid Snake because he's sorta like Batman or some shit and so on.

Those are all larger than life characters, Nathan is just much more human.

nate's douchebag haircut, his rockin' halftuck, and terrible dialogue make him an exercise in unpleasant marketing wank

of course, as noted above, it's not like there's much better in games as a whole

I think that's what makes him "epic" and favourable to some. He seems to be a normal, everyday dude compared to the other characters although some of the  actions he does really stretches that idea.
