it's up now?

How does this even work? Are all of the races limited to that island, or do you wind up going off the island and using familiar end points?

So far only one of the races I've done on the island took me off the island. The rest have been contained to the island.

The island is awesome btw. It's so freakin jam packed with jumps that I think there could be as many jumps on the island  as there are in all of Paradise City.

Yeah I saw it in the playstation store.  $12.99 not a bad price.

I'm hoping there is a bundle for $29.99 including the game and island.

My 320GB hdd is coming soon I'll probably buy it off of PSN.

Ok, this is how I feel about Burnout Paradise:

-It took them waaaaay too long to bring out this Island DLC.  If the game is on your shelf you're almost tempted to pass because it's just been so long.  Obviously the main Burnout team has been working on a retail game and like 5 guys have been working on the DLC all these years.

Then you play it and Oh yeah, I forgot, Burnout Paradise is one of the best games ever made..
2nd favorite game this gen after Crackdown.

The game is perfect.  There isn't a single thing I can think of at this point that I would change.  Everything about it is brilliant.  From the offline yet online intergration (road rules and stats) to the easy & great online to the great soundtrack to the CLASSICAL MUSIC WHEN ON SCREENSAVER (geniusssss), to the actual driving and tons of things to find & do to the 60fps graphics, It's pretty much the best free form racing game ever made.

...so yeah I'm going to be playing this for a while again :x

AND IT HAS LIKE 8000 ACHIEVEMENTS/TROPHIES AT THIS POINT.

I hope the lack of replies to this thread is because you all are busy playing it!

the buggy car and one variant of it
also the toy cars are in the pack but you have to unlock em through progression.

I've got 100% of the Big Surf single-player content, but now I need help with the Freeburn Challenges.  Anyone want to play???

Great pack, by the way, and it was awesome to get toy versions of the legendary cars so I could at least try them out.  Toy DeLorean ROCKS.  Oh, and I never played the bike content, so there's a WHOLE NEW GAME IN MY GAME.  Criterion rocks.

I had one Road Rage event start on the island and end up in downtown Paradise City.

The island is fun, worth the purchase. :D

I'm pretty amazed at how many people have this online.

If you jump in an online match right now you'll generally find well over half of the people have BSI. Most even have the cops and robbers pack.

It's a stark change of pace from Rock Band. You jump online in Rock Band and no one has DLC. No one.

The game sadly didn't grab me either when I got it a while ago (bought the toy cars too which are kinda fun).  Online is people just going from place to place randomly and offline seems to be a lot of the same things over and over.

I dunno, I need to try it some more.  I hope to get into it and buy BSI.

What it masters are the open world and exploration aspects.  The racing isn't as good as the other Burnouts and there's no Crash mode, so it's just a different type of game with a different type of appeal.  For me, it's the best open world that I've explored this generation because there's so much to do, see, and find.

I don't know, I just felt the open world of Burnout was lame after playing it after playing MC:LA, which I think is my favorite arcade racer of all time. One of the reasons of that though is that you're not punished if you don't come in first.

Racing in BP is better than the racing in the older Burnout games. I went back and played them and they aren't as good.

all burnout games suck. they are only fun when you use custom soundtracks and play some power metal or something fast and awesome.

The game is perfect.  There isn't a single thing I can think of at this point that I would change.
Oh come on, really?  You wouldn't change the fact that showtime mode is a horrible replacement for the crash mode?  You wouldn't change the fact that slow-mo crashes in events take 12 seconds and are incredibly annoying and disruptive to the event going on?  Or what about you being forced to go through half a dozen menus to actually play the game?  Or the fog they added in (that you can't disable), which fucks up your visibility?  Don't get me wrong, I love Burnout Paradise (just got my elite license today AND MY GOLD CARS YEAAHHH) but the game isn't perfect.

I think I'll buy BSI though, especially after hearing that toy versions of the four legendary cars are unlockable within it.

I think the navigation system is pretty shitty in the game anyways. It's impossible to jump into a race and know what to do without knowing the area. It would be a million times better if there where visible check point pointers like in MC.

I've never used showtime mode after the first day I bought the game.  I just pretend it doesn't exist and there is no crash mode in Burnout Paradise.  Yeah I loved crash mode in the older burnouts, but BP doesn't need crash mode.  It's a different type of game.

The crashes don't take 12 seconds.  They are long but if they let you skip them there'd be less of a penalty for crashing.  Plus it makes you want to get better and crash less.

Menus?  You load the game and it starts you in your car (ok there is that dumb webpage thing they added, but just close it).

I agree that navigation system is weak, but you go SO FAST they really do the best they can to keep you going in the right direction.  At the end of the day you just have to learn the island, but it's not that big.

My only complaint about BP is that we should have had a full BP2 by now with a brand new map even larger than BP.  Instead we get a small, but enjoyable island that is about 1/5th the size of the original game.

Yeah I'm defending, but this game is pure bliss every moment I play it.  I don't replay games but I started a new save when trophies were added on the PS3 version and playing it all again was not a chore AT ALL.  Was total fun all over again.

not the games fault you suck at it. get better, learn the map, and stop whining.

edit: year and a half later I can still jump in any race and do well because once you learn the map? you never unlearn it.

It's a stark change of pace from Rock Band. You jump online in Rock Band and no one has DLC. No one.

I think the key difference with Rockband is that there are 500+ DLC songs, covering a wide and varied enough set of styles that it's pretty much a given that not everything will appeal to everyone. On the other hand, the Burnout DLC consists of racing items and the only demographic it needs to address is "people who like Burnout." Which is pretty much anybody that you'd find online playing it, and people hoping to play the new stuff with others.

I'm not trying to be snide, by the way. I'll further contrast this against Saints Row 2's DLC. Even though most people who played SR2 are in love with the game, warts and all, it seems like most players are not indulging in the 560 and 800 MS point DLC because it doesn't offer a sizable increase in enjoyment over the main game. A few extra cars with which to replay missions or complete a handful of new ones? Tera Patrick as a homie, without even GTA IV-style car-based copulation?

How in the world can you compare the two open worlds?  The open world in MC:LA exists only for you to race in.  The open world in BP exists mainly for you to explore with all of the billboards, smashes, and jumps, many of which require a bit of exploration and creativity to find.

MC:LA had the most amazing story in games last year and it even made my cry one time. The only thing Burnout made me do was break a sweat from having to get up and turn it off.

It was a coming of age story of a young minority moving into LA trying to go from rags to riches and become a premiere car dealer ownership in contemporary Los Angelas. It was touching.

OK, I admit I slightly exaggerated that number but they're still pretty frickin' long, longer than they should be.  They should at least let me skip after 3-4 seconds, and if that's not enough of a penalty than they could easily figure out a solution to remedy that.  Like, deducting the normal 10 or so seconds off the stunt run clock even though the crash in real time lasted only a few seconds.

I'm on 360 (so I don't know how it is on PS3), but here's how it goes:

– Press Start
– Press A to acknowledge auto-saving
– Press A to go past the weather/calendar/news board
– Press A to choose whether you want to go into Paradise City, cops and robbers, BSI, etc
– Press A to choose whether you want to use regular cars, boost cars, toy cars, etc
– Press A to choose your car
– Press A to choose your paint scheme
– Press A to confirm

Eh, the game came out in January 2008.  They wouldn't be releasing an all-new Burnout anytime soon.  I bet the Need for Speed game they're working on for fall 2010 is a spiritual successor to Paradise anyway.
