Nikon or Canon?
« on: June 17, 2009, 01:34:28 PM »
I'm looking to get a DSLR, probably in the prosumer range.  Both Canon and Nikon have some great prosumer models, but other than lens compatibility, are both brands, more or less equal in terms of quality?

I think it's fair to say they are equals.

I used Nikon for film but when I went DSLR I moved to Canon because I was familiar with them (if you can work their compacts you can work their DSLRs for the most part), and at the time the Canons would go to ISO100 whereas the Nikons were only ISO200.  I always used ISO100 film so speed was not a problem and the Canon had a tiny edge in noise as a result.

If you have no preference read up what the current models are like at www.dpreview.com.

I'm a Canon guy myself. I remember liking how the Nikon body felt in my hands but ended up going with a Canon for some reason. Now I love their Prime lens selection.
