The controls and sound on this Genesis collection are really wierd when it comes to certain games. I swear for every single platformer on here the jump animations are longer than they should be. This is a big turn off when it comes to Sonic, which makes it almost completely unplayable for someone who has spent a decent amount of time with the Genesis originals.

And the sounds are really wierd. Like when you get the fast shoes in Sonic, the music doesn't speed up at all. It's a good collection of games from the era but the emulation is pretty crappy.

But it's kinda sad to see me playing these games on a non Sega console. :( Atleast for me.

Comix Zone hasn't aged a bit. The game is as awesome as ever.

Alright I picked this up tonight.  I already have the Sonics on Sonic Mega Collection, so I'll be playing the others a lot.

Which Phantasy Star sucked btw?  My second RPG experience was on a friend's Genesis with a Phantasy Star game and I absolutely hated it.  It had the sort of first person battle perspective and big empty fields and confusing menus. I want to try Phantasy Star again, but I just really hated the game I played long ago.

Play Phantasy Star IV. It's the only Phantasy Star game that I played through, but I loved it.

This is true.  Looks really nice on that screen, you can save anywhere, perfect "gaming on the go" collection.

And how do you guys remember and are able to tell the difference about shit like how the game used to sound?  I couldn't even fucking remember where the secrets were on the first level of Sonic 2 was, and I played a LOT of Sonic 2.

It just seems off. Sounds are something key, and I've played a shit load of these games so it seemed wierd.

Though I totally understand not remembering where secret areas in Sonic are. I knew those levels by heart.

I'm just worried about my memory in general.  You hardcore gamer guys seem to remember everything, and the older I get the less I seem to be able to recall.  I should be able to tell the difference in games I spent many, many, many hours playing, and it just makes me wonder what other memories are slipping into the ether as each year passes.

Dude, it's not even my memories. Whenever Sonic got fast shoes, the music sped up. It doesn't happen in the SGC. Whenever Sonic jumps, there's a delay in the sound. It's something you should pick up if you've spent a decent amount of time playing the originals.

Maybe it's been awhile, I dunno.

I'm afraid to try Sword of Vermilion. I remember liking it back when I was 16, but I also remember being annoyed by it. Given my distaste for ANY sort of gaming frustration these days, it might make me wanna chuck my PSP across the room.

I tried SoV and it was WAY annoying.

One aspect of archaic game design: Instead of going up to an npc and just pressing an action button to talk, you go up to an npc and press a menu button, then choose talk and hope the NPC hasn't walked away from you already.
