I'm back

Just got back from our annual canoe race/camping trip

Ok, here's the river
http://www.canoehiawatha.com/location.php

It's divided into 4 legs. The first starts at Chase Bridge and goes to Durant's Castle. Basically once a team gets there they wait for everyone else to arrive/rest before heading out again - with whoever came in last getting the opportunity to start off first. Then you go from Durant's Castle to the Chapel, and from there to Canoe Harbor before making a quick dash to Smith's Bridge. It's about a 3-5 hour event, depending on how much traffic is on the river, whether you're constantly falling in, etc.

It rained most of the night on friday, so during saturday's race the river's current was super fast. The river level is about 3-5 feet mainly, with some spots at 6 feet; so it's not particularly deep. As you can see it's a winding river, and there are many trees and branches to crash into if you aren't careful. I'll post some more details about the actual race later, as well as some dumb shit that happened

After reading that thread...I agree

I only fell in the water once this year, which is a new record. We had a new dude come this year, plus my uncle who came once before but still sucks. My dad decided to put the new guy and my uncle in the same canoe, which imo was unfair. They were both inexperienced, didn't know how to control a canoe even after we explained it, etc. Everyone finished the first leg of the race an hour before them. On the second leg a boy scout leader actually got into their canoe and paddled them to the stop; after that we switched up teams to solve the confusion; they were pissed at each other  :lol

We wound up leaving this one guy at the camping ground; he said he "had a bad feeling" about the river and decided not to come, despite the fact that he's a great canoe-ist and could have helped my uncle and the new guy finish the race easily. Once we got back we started cooking our dinner - steak, salmon, veggies, and baked beans. Everyone who actually participated in the race ate first, and in the end all the salmon was gone before the lazy mofo could get it. Now this dude is about 350 pounds if not more, but he exploded, almost in tears yelling at people for not saving him some salmon. Probably the most pathetic thing I've witnessed this year.

To make matters worse this guy has the worst persecution complex I've ever seen. I've known him all my life (he's one of my dad's best friends) and all he fucking does is complain about white people. Now we're up north surrounded by a bunch of white people and he's talking (moderately loudly) about race injustice, how most white people treat blacks shitty when they're competing for jobs, etc. Dude is bitter as fuck. Anything and everything could suddenly turn into a race debate. I'll call him Derek

Baseball: I don't watch it, but I listen to enough sports radio to know how the Tigers are doing. One of our pitchers, Dontrelle Willis, just got diagnosed with anxiety and won't be back to the team anytime soon. So folks are talking about this incident when Derek starts complaining about how the Tigers are responsible for this because they constantly threatened to send him back down to the minors, how the white pitchers never were threatened that way when they sucked, etc etc. I'd just be sitting there looking at him in utter amazement.

Verlander had a shitty year last year, was he ever sent to the minors? He had a history of success with the team - hell he was an ace the previous year. Willis has been a bum since signing with the Tigers

Verlander's record was horrible, but his ERA was about half of what Willis' currently is. They're really not comparable.

Yea that was weird as fuck. He jokes around all the time, and can be pretty funny. So when he started complaining everyone laughed it off and continued eating. Then of course he just started going off the deep end, complaining about how his best friends and family members (his brother and nephew were there) weren't looking out for him, no one cared about him, blah blah blah.

Hell we even said we'd cook some more salmon, and I was planning on cooking more steak because I didn't get a piece. But he was like "no, I don't want you to cook anything for me. It's fine." Like a 13 year old kid or some shit

Maybe there is something more going on there, doesnt sound like a grown up man.

Im sorry but this reminds me of that video of black people being confused kfc is out of chicken. Dont hate me for this :( Id just love to see that but with this guy and salmon.
Hmm I thought about this I think it was no more chicken vs. run out of chicken. No more chicken in the mind of a black man indicates there is no more chicken for good, while run out of chicken indicates there is no chicken now but there'll be some more later.

I miss Popeye's chicken, but I miss their sides even more. That sausage gravy mashed potato thing = win.
