I need some quick Civ 4 help.

Playing a small plains map on the third weakest difficulty (I stink, ok?).

I'm dominating the game towards the end here and I take over a city of pop 9. It's a christian city (I am Hindu). The influence of a (christian) neighbor surrounds it on all three sides. After about 7 turns, the city turns over to them.

Outside of declaring war on them, how can I stop this from happening?

you should build a temple to produce culture, or if no one has researched a certain tech (I don't remember which) you can build walls to keep cities from converting

What kind of garrison do you have in the city? Revolts and culture flips can be suppressed if you pile enough troops into a city.

What you need to do is get some culture push of your own going by getting some good culture buildings up in the city, generating some culture per turn. Artist specialists work too but you have to produce culture per turn to push the borders back, and it may take a lot of effort to do so.

I piled in 3 machine gunners and 3 calvary and a cannon and they still flip. Maybe I will try more troops and quick buy some buildings.

I'd take frags advice - try to rush some culture buildings asap. My usual style was to amass culture buildings before any significant defenses.
