Time to make live-action movies out of Nickelodeon cartoons!

... For those that suck at flash.

Pretty low, since he hasn't made a good movie since Unbreakable.

Yeah, I think if he had a choice between making his own movies or a live-action adaptation of a Nickelodeon cartoon - he'd pick the former.  This is pretty much like getting Francis Ford Coppola to direct a Naruto material.  Sure, his kids might love it and he dug the cartoon, but to go from the Oscars to this pretty much means your career is in the toilet.

Yeah, but that was pre-Sixth Sense.  It's okay to start from the bottom.  But to go from the Oscars to live-action Nickelodeon cartoons is a pretty big fall.  In just one decade!

I mean, when guys like Coppola fell from grace, they at least had the dignity to just stop making movies and do shit like create their own wine or simply produce crap like this.

you're making it seem like he's being forced to do it. he's the one that wanted to do it. there's interviews out there where he talks about watching it with his kids and wanting to make a movie out of it. so he's making the movie he wants to make. a movie to make his kids happy. seems like a good life to me.

Have you ever read an interview with anyone that said during production, "Man, I really fucking hate this project!" :lol

You can find interviews of actors on Uwe Boll films talking about how great the script is! :lol

He probably did watch this with his family and his agent was like, "Well, uh, you could direct the movie or you could start directing television shows."  What do you think he chose?

The dude is a noted egotistical jerk - he likes working on his own stuff.  The only reason he did this was because he pretty much had total creative control considering its a cartoon property and he still has some fame.

well based on his past, it's not out of the realm of reality. lady in the water was made solely for his kids.

edit: and i don't know how you're making it seem that he wouldn't be able to get more movies. it's not like his movies have been completely bombing. The Happening made a pretty big profit.

edit: well except for lady in the water.

Yeah, but that was pre-Sixth Sense.  It's okay to start from the bottom.

Actually, Stuart Little, which he was only the writer on, came out three months after Sixth Sense and he'd directed two movies prior to that.

But, yes, he has sunk very low. If someone told me that The Happening was by some first-time director with no idea what he doing, or Uwe Boll, I'd have believed it.

The Happening didn't make that much money in theaters.  It had a $50 million budget, not including advertising and did only $64 million.

He doesn't pull in numbers anymore.

And I don't know if you're aware of this, but M. Night has alienated himself from a lot of studio executives because of his outrageous demands.  The Happening was a long and plagued production that almost never came to fruition and was laughed out every studio in Hollywood.

He pretty much single handedly, destroyed his relationship with Disney and Warner Bros.

You don't get free reign in Hollywood when you don't make a lot of money and certainly if you're a douchebag.

At first I thought this was a teaser for The Village II

What happened to this dude? Sixth Sense was a huge movie, and while Unbreakable wasn't as successful commercially or critically I definitely thought it was the better movie (by far). I liked Signs at the time, but it's almost unwatchable today - the writing is horrible, which of course plagues most of his movies.

Like Newt Gingrich, M Night is a man of ideas ( :smug ). Why can't he express those ideas to a screenwriter who can actually write

His only two enjoyable movies were The Sixth Sense and The Village.  Neither of them were great, but they were at least watchable.  Unbreakable was fine until the ending which was just stupid.

Yes. Lady in the Water is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. The Village is one of the absolutely most disappointing movies I've ever seen, if not the most....but while the writing is shitty there are some cool parts in it.

Anyone remember how ABC would always had exclusive sneak peeks at the next M Night flicks? I remember watching their special on The Village, plus the Sci Fi channel had that ridiculous fake/viral/whatever promo lol

Oh yeah, not just by a little bit either, by a Grand Canyon sized margin.  The Village at least is competently made and has some really, really good cinematography.  Lady in the Water is abysmal from beginning to end.

Apparently Night bolted out of his relationship with Disney just because they expressed reservations about Lady in the Water, mind you they were still going to make it and give him free reign (and why shouldn't they, all his previous films with him did well enough).  So he went to Warner Bros. where he could get his ego massaged while he was making his tremendously shitty movie.

I don't think I even want to watch The Happening for lulz.  Max Payne cured me of wanting to watch Mark Whalberg in terrible movies.

As of September 14, 2006, the film made $42.3 million domestically and $30.5 million in the foreign box office, totaling $72.8 million. The films $75 million production cost and $70 million marketing campaign combined with the fractional percentages returned by movie vendors meant the film lost close to $100 million USD during its theatrical run. DVD rentals of the film have earned $19.96 million as of February 18, 2007.

Yeah, he basically destroyed his working relationship with Disney and fled to Warner Bros. where he bled them dry.  Then Fox took a gamble, didn't really lose anything, but certainly didn't make enough to put up with his antics.  If this thing tanks, which I don't think it well due to the built-in audience, then I don't think anyone will want to touch him for awhile.

He's an egotistical jerk that nobody wants to put up with.

DBZ had a pretty big built in audience of kids/man children as well. Dunno if that's a great analogy or not, but this thing bombing definitely seems like a possibility to me.

Totally different.  Dragonball Z had a built-in audience that had pretty much grown out of was a very niche show - and one where its most devout followers embraced for its Japanese origins.  That is not the case with Avatar.  It could bomb, but it has a bigger audience that is not too far removed from the peak of the series.
