God I'm scared of that shit. I'm sticking to XP, Word 2003 & Excel 2003 for as long as possible.

the ribbon took the place of my up arrow, but nah. It's very easy to navigate, and the libraries function rocks.

Yes, in Paint and WordPad. the menus in Explorer are hidden by default but show up when you hit Alt, same as in Vista.

You should go through with it. I installed it yesterday and it hasn't given me any problems other than being slow as shit when I alt-tab out of WoW. I'll probably pre-order it for $49 but I haven't decided yet. Oh, and the license doesn't expire until march of next year, so if you don't feel like re-imaging for a while, you don't really have to.

I hate that damn ribbon with a passion. We've wasted tons of time at work with Word and Excel trying to figure out how to do things that were relatively easy before.

Part of the problem is my computer is still 2003 & XP so my only ribbon exposure is when I help someone running 2007. Which happens a fair bit because I'm the one who did most of our templates. $:-\$

I've just installed Windows 7, the GUI looks way more cohesive than Vista. Also most of my devices were correctly installed from the install (except for the Ethernet), which I got going with XP drivers.

The Taskbar is sweet

I haven't used Office for Windows in like 6 years, so when I loaded up the newest version of Office, I was pleasantly surprised. Looked very easy to use and had a great interface.

From what I've read, its being recommended that one upgrades to Vista then to Windows 7. I personally just did a clean install (from XP)

i have two hard drives, just moved everything I wanted to keep (like games) to my docs drive and clean installed 7 on the main drive from XP. Gave me no problems, and best of all most of my usb devices are instantly recognized! Yay for not having to screw with tablet drivers.

Chrome rocks with W7's Aero GUI. Love it, its like sheets of digital paper hanging in space. IE8 feels way too chunky.

Just curious, since I never did it before, but does upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 7 (or whatever os to os) wipe everything off my computer? I mean, do I need to back up everything and redownload every program?

No. Everything is kept in the hard drive,under a folder called "Window.old".

I think Veidt is talking about a fresh install of the RC.

I would suggest dual boot, if you're interested in the RC.
I imagine the official upgrade retains your files and programs, since Vista and 7 are so close.

I had installed this on my parents PC (a Dell Optiplex GX270). The soundcard needed a driver, that went easy. The Linksys Wireless card was a bit of a bitch. I restarted the PC a day later when I got back to it and the adapter just started working, coo'.

The real pain in the ass was the Video Card. I wasn't sure what it was, it wasn't even labeled (bad sign). I could tell it was old as fuck. I sifted through the official drivers and the Microsoft provided ones, none of them worked. I had that it was at least a 9600... nope

. By chance I saw an image that clued me in and then find out its a Radeon 7500 $:-\$ . Awesomely, Vista took the XP drivers fine and their screen resolution isn't stuck at 1028xsomething shitty.

The CPU is some Intel @ 2.8GHz with 1GB RAM. They just browse the internet, email and all that so I'm not worried about them multitasking like hyperactive teenager. Runs fine within that scope. I wanted this on their PC due to UAC, so I can tell them "SEE, WHEN THIS SCREEN POPS UP WHEN YOUR ON THE INTERNET, CLICK NO! CLICK.NO."

yeah, I already ordered the regular $50 upgrade. Good to know then, thanks.

It's such a pain redownloading all programs and backing up my files.

In-place upgrades from RC to RTM won't be supported (even if you do have XP/Vista). There may be a workaround, as IIRC there was from beta to RC.

Honestly, I missed out on something like 4 versions of WMP. I started using it in Win7 because I wanted to install as little programs as possible.

The library turned out nice, and the actual player is totally interface free, which I like.

Windows 7 is really good but lately its been running really slow for me :'(.
