I want a new phone and I'm looking at all the various stuff.

I may go for an iphone, but maybe not.

http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/cell-phones/cell-phones.jsp?wtSlotClick=1-001SOM-0-1&WT.svl=calltoaction

Out of this list, these two, the iphones aside, stuck out the most.

http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/cell-phone-details/?device=BlackBerry%C2%AE+Curve+8310+-+Red+(Refurb)&q_sku=sku1160073

What should I get? The blackberry and Samsung Magnet are more in my price range than the iphone 3g 8gig

The 8gig is only $100 now. Well worth it.

If you can't afford the iPhone 3GS get the Blackberry Curve.

Yeah, that blackberry looks really tempting. How small are the keys?

iPhone 3g is great, but you mentioned you don't like touchscreens, so go with the BB.  In terms apps and software the iPhone is just so ahead of other phones, however.

If you want to watch Divx Movies [ I don't know if the iPhone does this]. Get the LG Viewty. it's crazy cheap and good.

Yeah, I was going to swallow my pride and get an iphone due to the software, apps, and all the support in general.

BlackBerry is what real adults use, so you should probably get an iPhone.

BB Storm will be pointless once the BB Tour comes out.

BLACKBERRY STORM!

FEEL THE LIGHTING RIGHT IN YOUR PALM!

Oh wait, AT&T isn't cool enough to get the storm. Get the curve.

The Storm sucks.  It's RIM trying to imitate Apple and - guess what? - it's arguably their worst phone.  The new Curve and Bold are way better messaging and phone clients than Apple's toy phone.  And as previously stated, the Tour is due out soon.

The question is what do you need to use the phone for?  Texting is crappy on a touchscreen but of course it's easier to browse the web.

Even if you're going to order online, I suggest that you go to a AT&T store to play around with these and see how comfortable they feel.

That's odd that almost any mobile-specific site disagrees with you entirely.  Oh wait.

The Palm Pre is a neat device - I don't have too much experience with it, so I can't really badmouth it. Yet.  I know the support for it is limited, but that WebOS looks hot.

American review sites? I personally would rather go hands on myself with a product then checking out online reviews. Can't wait for CTIA 2010! :hyper

To deny any credibility of people that critique technology for a living is kind of sad, not to mention that I've personally had dozens of phones with several providers over the years (including Helio!).  I'm kind of a nut in that regard.  I've had LG products, HTC products, Motorola products, Samsung products, Windows Mobile products, etc.

I've tested the Android powered phones, T-Mobile's Sidekick devices and more.

RIM has brought the best, most stable messaging device and phone on the planet with the Curve series.  The Bold is a fantastic model, as well.  Apple has RIM beat in terms of entertainment applications, but as far as messaging device - it's still catching up.  Not to mention, IT folks love it because of its easy to use, Microsoft Exchange support and has far superior security controls than the iPhone.

The only thing that I've seen give it a real run for its money is the Palm Pre, but we're still waiting to see how that will play out.  Palm still reported a loss, the Pre has reported first generation hardware issues, demand is leveling off, etc.  I'm far more interested in the future of WebOS than the handheld, though.

It will be interesting to see if it becomes the viable competitor to Apple's OS that Google wanted Android to be.

The Storm certainly isn't a shitty phone, it just doesn't have the application center the iPhone has.  It's touch screen isn't as impressive, either.  But the browser and the texting/e-mail functionality is superb.

I would rather have the iPhone though.

Hey, now!  The Ocean was ahead of its time.  It was totally buggy, but it was a dual sliding, 3G, GPS equipped with great messaging capabilities.  It was a great messaging handset.  Not to mention all the YouTube (it had full YouTube before iPhone), social networking, multimedia apps.

I don't think anyone can deny that.

Not to mention that the idea of an app store started with the Ocean.

As far as messaging goes; I can use AIM on my iPhone without needing to pay for a txt plan, and the new 3.0 update version of AIM is great with push and landscape support.

The Ocean. I remember that. I used to work with a guy who loved his. Then a few months later everyone in the office got iPhones.

I also can use AIM and MSN and Yahoo! and Gmail without a text plan on my BlackBerry.

The Ocean was pretty awesome - the iPhone inevitably made it obsolete.  But a lot of the stuff that the iPhone eventually rolled out was taken from the Ocean.  3G, MMS and more out of the box.  Way before the 3GS.
