I don't like it. The free-roaming aspect was one of the things that really pulled me in early on. Now it's just going to be another Silent Hill/Resident Evil, not that that is necessarily bad but I'd like to see them do some new stuff in the genre.

Sounds like they're changing some major things that was awesome about the original vision. So now its most likely console only and they take out the sandbox. Downgrade total.

Yes. Which is why I was hoping that Alan Wake would put a new twist on the genre.

It's a shame they're changing the original ideas.  The video from E3 was pretty boring and combat just seemed to be putting light on enemy, then shooting them.  I'm still interested, but the first game looked like it would be a cool Twin Peaks inspired game while now it looks like another survival horror game with lame combat on par for the genre.
