8 years of bureaucracy and all it took was 1 verse of God Bless the USA to seal the deal.

Good stuff, congratulations!

8 years, wow. Is that normal? I'm pretty ignorant of U.S. immigration wait times etc.

I am not sure what the normal naturalization process is, but I have an aunt from Columbia and it took her 13 or so years before she became a citizen, even though she had already married my natural citizen uncle and had 2 kids.

Also, I have a friend from Bahrain that has had a hell of a time going from a student visa to a green card. He wants to become a citizen, but it sounds like the odds are slim to none  :-\

The actual citizenship deal was actually less complicated than everything before it. The processing time for my original internship visa was 12 months, and even then I was at the mercy of the border officers, who all have the power to turn you away for any reason and who have no obligation to explain why. The general attitude of immigration here, from the border to regional and national offices, is "we work in mysterious ways," and it's almost possible to find out what is going on at any time during processing.

Honestly, if they are honest in wanting to streamline this system, they should start by looking at the regional offices. But I think it's opaque and nested for a reason, to intimidate applicants.

Going to be doing that soon myself.

Which nationalities? There's a passage in the oath that technically undermines the whole dual citizenship thing, but as long as there is peace between the EU and the US, I'm fine.
