The Wire season 5: so far so good!
« on: July 12, 2009, 11:27:50 PM »
I finished S4 a long time ago and had been waiting for Hollywood Video to get S5; lo and behold I saw it on the shelf this week. I'm three episodes in and so far so good.

S1 and S2 started kinda slow imo, at least with the first couple episodes. I thought the first episode of S5 was one of the better first episodes in the series.

spoilers n shit

-the newspaper stuff isn't bad so far. I had heard it was a problem but so far I'm liking it. Gus is cool, although has anyone noticed he's like the ideal champion avatar of his craft, something the show seems to do a lot (Freamon for detectives, Bunny for head of police, Carcetti (initially) for politics, maybe Omar for gangsters). The Templeton shit seems like it could hit the fan in a major way

-Omar  :bow

I forgot why Marlo wants him so bad. Yea he stole from him but jeez, what's the point in bringing Omar back to the city. Should be entertaining though.

-The complete destruction of McNulty it seems. I was glad to see him settle down/gtfo in S4. But now he has another crusade to fight that will leave him in a worse position than before. S1=nobody cares about Stringer/Avon, imma take it into my own hands. S2=nobody cares about dead hookers, imma take it into my own loins. S5=nobody cares about dead black people, imma take it into my own hands

-More Bunk plz :lol

:lol :bow Omar jumping out the fucking window. I thought he was done for sure. But yea, it's kinda obvious he doesn't want to live anymore and is gonna go down with a fight.

Prop Joe :usa

I figured he'd survive, despite having so little protection. Marlo is one cold motherfucker. To me he's like a mixture of Avon and Bell. But with all these business ventures I can't help but think he's about to go down, hard. There are a few domino chain reactions here. Templeton/McNulty going down for their bullshit, and maybe Marlo going down as the feds begin to investigate the Greeks (thanks to the leak evidence they found in Joe's place).

Omar  :'( :'( :'(
Snoop  :'(

Shit, Omar saw Kenard come into the store, just didn't pay attention to him because he's a damn kid. It didn't even register in his mind. :usacry

Damn, Michael. I teared up when DeQuan was reminding him of the urine water balloons, and Michael couldn't remember the event; what an amazing scene. Hell that entire episode was great.

Good to see Templeton's bullshit finally coming home to roost. Same with McNulty, who I am truly tired of.

To answer your Q on GAF about the morgue dude:

spoiler (click to show/hide)
He swaps Omar's tags because Omar had been mis-tagged as someone else. It was supposed to demonstrate that this black morgue dude, who probably lived in the bad part of town, still knew who Omar was. It was a fitting elegy- That Omar's legend extended beyond the ghetto, that he was genuinely a kind of folk hero for a lot of people, even in unexpected places. I think the Morgue dude even kind of laughs as if to say, "Didn't these idiots know who Omar was?"

Five seasons.  60 episodes.  Each episode is about an hour long (final episode is an hour and a half).

sacrifice ~60 hours of your life to watch one of the best shows ever
