how do i add music to my zune manually?
« on: July 17, 2009, 01:40:15 PM »
jesus goddamn motherfucking christ i've been trying to transfer a single podcast to my zune for the past fifteen minutes and the goddamned software won't even show it as being present in my collection even though it's right there in the folder - and i can't just drag and drop it for some distinguished mentally-challenged-ass reason

also, rss updates on the software are fuck slow, sometimes a day behind when the stuff first shows up in my browser feeds

i absolutely despise having to do everything through an interface, just let me put my fucking music and podcasts on there for fuck's sake

nevermind, i think i'll just stick to my cheap players from now on

i have wasted half my lunch break trying to get one (just ONE) episode of a podcast on this thing so i could listen to it after lunch, i've redownloaded it about 10 times and the software still refuses to acknowledge it is on my computer even though i have tested it through 3 different mp3 programs

it was an awesome gift and it is a really nice player, i just like the ability to drag and drop whatever i want without having to wait for syncs and adding folders and all that other bullshit

so that also rules out the ipod touch i was considering

My guess is that the ID3 tags are corrupt on the file you're trying to add.  If you have some software that will remove them or convert to a different version or something, I would try that if it's worth the trouble.

The Zune software is really fucking garbage - worse than iTunes!  I might blow my stack if it isn't updated with the Zune HD release because I love the player otherwise.

i had to manually add the feed for the entire podcast series to finally get it to download for the 11th time and sync up

why can't i just drag and drop or use WMP?

If you have an older Zune, you might be able to make it accessable to drag and drop (note the article date).  As far as I know, this isn't at all possible with newer Zune models.  :(

I'm not sure of any other way to edit ID3 tags, but I know for a fact that Winamp allows it with a keyboard shortcut when you click on it in the playlist.  Might be worth a try.

Then again, I didn't read the whole thread, so that might help.

The lack of drag-and-drop capabilities just seems to me like a way to force people to acknowledge the particular marketplace associated with the device they're using.

I wouldn't even care so much if I didn't feel like I was jumping into the octogon with the program every time I fire it up.  I don't use it to play music - I just want to turn it on, wait a minute for my files to sync and turn it off, and the Zune is very close to giving me everything I need in this regard.  It just also happens to be really buggy and slow as fuck.

It's pretty easy to trick the Zune into being a mass storage device.

I add individual Howard Stern eps all the time, I dunno
