Sega today has announced that Bayonetta, the Platinum Games' developed stylish action title for the Xbox 360/PS3, will get a bit of a delayed release in Western markets (North America, EU, etc.). The Japanese date is October 29th 2009, but in North America, it is confirmed that we won't see it until January 2010.

"Bayonetta is an extremely important new IP for SEGA and adds a new level of depth to our growing portfolio. As a result of market analysis we have taken a Publishing decision that January 2010 is the optimum release time in the Western Markets to maximize this exciting new title's potential," said Mike Hayes, President and COO for SEGA West.

Yes, there are some big games hitting towards the end of 2009, but with more and more titles shifting to early 2010, it's not like there won't be any competition then as well. Missing the Holiday season doesn't ever seem like the best of ideas, so we'll see.

fewer and fewer games are coming out in 2009. On the other hand, 2010 is going to be awesome.

If the import is full English and region free on 360, I might consider importing

No big deal, will import. Doubtful it will be region-free on 360, guys. Japanese games almost never are.

This might just be an excuse for them to not be as let down by the game's sales when it bombs. Probably looks better selling a few copies post-holiday season than during it.

AGAAAAAIN, most 360 games are region-locked in Japan. Get ready to use Play-Asia a lot or head down to Aki for over-priced imports.

This game will now sell 14 copies instead of 17. Make that 11 copies if reviewers start with "it's haaaaard, even on easy"
