It's the weekend, you should buy some shit like I did.
« on: July 18, 2009, 02:13:00 PM »
Just got my first fat paycheck of the Summer yesterday, so I took advantage of the Gamestop "buy 2 get 1" sale to catch up on some games I'd passed on when they were too esspensive:

Star Wars Force Unleashed
Tom Clancy's End War 360
BF: Bad Company (I'd already owned it on PS3 once and sold it,  but figured I'd give it another shot on a system where people still play it online)

Frontlines: Fuels of War
Stranglehold
Two Worlds Collector's Edition

All told, with the tax it equalled out to around $10.75 per game, which ain't too bad

Also picked up Bionic Commando PS3 brand-new for $20 (wasn't this game $60 just two months ago? :lol)

there's still plenty of full servers. but it's only the high level players now. everyone's already to the high ranks with all the weapon unlocks.
so if you're a new player, it's going to be brutal.

I wanted to go to Gamestop so I could buy some old PS2 games I never played, since my newest obsession is PS2 emulation on the PC.

Unfortunately it's difficult to find copies of some of those lost gems.....and even when you do it's often in a shitty case without a manual or boxart.  Both Shadow of the Colossus and Neo Contra had no box art.  Sly Cooper's box art was a shitty, grainy color printout from an HP printer or something.  The only good-condition classic I found was Klonoa 2, but obviously I couldn't find 2 other games to buy with it.

I wish I was less of an anal-retentive bitch about these things, but I'm not going to cough up $10+ for something without proper packaging.    Maybe if these games were like $ .99 I'd bite, but not at normal used prices.  The irony of course is that I'll probably rip them to my hard drive and forget about the physical package forever anyway :lol

You can probably get the PC version of Rayman 2 for like $3 on eBay.  60FPS + HD resolution.

yeah, i don't buy used games without a retail box and manual

i can tell why bionic commando is $20 so far, btw - i've only played it for a few minutes, but the story and dialogue are just screaming mongoloid distinguished mentally-challenged, and the controls seem to be needlessly complicated

i'm all set on back catalogue stuff for a long while, though

I tried to find something for 360, but I really only wanted to spend about $30 and even buying two used 360 games will break that barrier (unless you are buying bad launch titles or outdated sports games).

Dead Rising, Just Cause, and Condemned would be good to check out if you are on a budget and haven't tried them yet.  Maybe even Shadowrun for $12.99 (RIP Brimstone).  Devil May Cry 4 is under $15, and they've also got Mirror's Edge and Earth Defense Force 2017 for $18.

I'm not a huge fan of Bad Company, to tell you the truth.

I might check out Mirror's Edge, though.  So if I nab Mirror's Edge, Bad Company - I still need something else!

Gun or Call of Juarez or Hitman Blood Money, perhaps.

Mirror's Edge is already $20 NEW, so it might be worth considering something that is a bigger savings (though I guess the used price is effectively $12).

Eel! We'll have to play Battlefield: Bad Company and Frontlines sometime! I'm thinking about picking up Bionic Commando for $20 but that'd require driving to Gamestop, heh.

I actually just tried the end war demo the other day.  It seemed more complicated than most PC RTS games I played, or even Halo Wars (judging by the demo) but the voice communication stuff worked flawlessly.  I was saying things like "unit 3 move to delta", and it would totally register that, even if I had no idea what I was supposed to do.

and I bought Holy Invasion of Privacy Badman off PSN for $20.  I played the import and the sequel a lot when they came out a while back, but having it in English is nice.  I don't know why I suddenly feel like spending that $20 was a lot when I spend $30-40 on UMD games and $30 on other downloadable games (like Trine recently).  I think it's because the game is only 55 megs or so.

I bought about 350 dollars worth of wargames yesterday from the amazing sale that GMT was having, more when you include the two preorders I made.

When the box gets here hopefully next week I will post pics of the incredible nerdsploshin inside. Here's a list of what I got:

Carthage
Clash of Giants II
Alesia
Glory III
Under the Lily Banners
Caesar: Conquest of Gaul + Gergovia expansion
Fields of Fire
Roads to Leningrad

Preordered copies of Normandy '44 and Ardennes '44 after a playsession with the first edition of the latter two weeks ago.

Also pre-ordered East India Company from Gamersgate, which is due out next week.

It's probably one of the best non-2D fighting games I've played in ages. Check out the demo, it sold me on it when it came out but I was just waiting for it to drop in price before I picked it up.

After playing Red Faction: Guerrilla (I rented it from Blockbuster earlier today) I decided to go ahead and just buy it off of Amazon since it's $39.99 on there too.

It's good, but it gets pretty repetitive.  I have that problem with sandbox games in general - I play the hell out of them for about 20 to 30 hours and then I hit this wall.  It's like I get stuffed and I wants no more.

Oh and someone recommended Red Faction Guerrilla so I got that as well. It's pretty gud so far.

New laptop:

4 GB RAM, 320 GB HDD, Vista 64 Home, for about $500.

First thing I did?  Check out this board.  My old crappy laptop barely functioned and struggled to do even the most mundane of tasks on the internet.  It was pretty low tech when I original bought it in 2005.  I'll still keep it around as there are a few applications I have on it I want to keep but I thought this was a decent buy and a good time to upgrade.

I see you've only played 2 rounds of multiplayer in Red Faction. You should give it another shot with me sometime, it's pretty fun if you play the right game modes. I'm not too sure how deep the career mode is in UFC but I've heard it's pretty good. You get to train your guy and have him spar and stuff and then go through the seasons. I should get it Wednesday so I'll let you know.

It's alright. The training stuff gets a little repetitive after a while, and eventually the horrible menus will make you want to kill yourself. It's at least worth a play-through, although I've really had more fun just doing exhibition matches.

Yup, they had Mad Gear and Videogames NY, the latter being a total ripoff... also they had this one store that concentrates on PC hentai games and Falcom games, they usually give GREAT deals on Falcom games (a few years ago I picked up Ys Origin and Oath in Felghana from them), so that's where I got the Sora no Kiseki games.
