Thanks to Fox animation domination from a few weeks back I won a awesome Tron prize pack that they say will get to me before the movie. I guess it includes some awesome 3d glasses and the new game.

I have held off from listening to the soundtrack so as to not spoil the movie. I look forward to seeing it but i'm gonna hit up the theater in the morning instead when it will be dead.

The first flick is like a Gilliam-lite fantasy story. Tron 2 seems appealing for entirely different reasons -- mostly aesthetic.

Tron game for iPod Touch/iPhone is free on the app store. It's lightcycles. And tanks. I've not tried tanks yet. The cycles control poorly; how hard is it to implement "Snakes" with a tap or flick interface?

Only another week and half until Tron hits theaters, I'm pretty psyched right now. Early reviews aren't overly positive, but I don't really care too much. Reviews probably weren't too positive about the first Tron either but I loved it.

I refuse to read anything about this movie. This isn't a critic's film. Either you've seen Tron and you get it, or you haven't seen it/don't get it. Simple, really.

It's poorly written, and he does an excellent job of making himself sound like the stereotypical douchebag hipster people like to identify P4K with, but I don't exactly disagree with his key gripes.

It's not a bad score by any means, but it's unexpectedly pedestrian. It's almost like their emulated version of what a film score is supposed to sound like. Maybe that's my inflated expectations.

My expectations are kinda stupid though. This is coming from someone who has a framed print of this hanging in his living room:

HAA is obviously just sort of a skeletal framework for their live stuff, as shown by the vastly superior mixes on Alive 2007, so it's difficult to listen to now without that in mind, but I had a better impression of it when it came out than a lot of people did, I think. I'll reserve judgement until I actually get to listen to it myself, but really all the complaints I've seen line up with the standard features of a film soundtrack. It's not a studio album and it isn't supposed to sound like one. It's pretty clear from what I've heard so far that this isn't a new Daft Punk album, it's a film score that was done by Daft Punk.

I didn't know who the fuck Daft Punk was until a couple of years ago and even now, the only material of theirs that I'll listen to is Alive 2007 (and now this soundtrack), so I'm definitely in a huge minority.

It's a film score, and one of the best this year by far. Granted I don't know much about the genre, but it sounds like it takes the best elements of film scoring, Justice's Cross, and past elements of Daft Punk and combines it into a very tight, succinct experience.

Divorcing a score from the movie and then picking it apart is a pretty dumb thing to do. It's a movie score, it's meant to be played in conjunction with certain images and sound effects. That's doesn't necessarily mean that some film scores aren't good for listening on their own, but it isn't the point. All that ultimately matters is whether it works in the movie or not.
