Little Kings Story
« on: July 22, 2009, 10:58:57 PM »
I'm apathetic again.  So to save some rambling- its good. Its like pikmin with job classes for units. The visuals are a little blurry even on sd and the game could use pointer controls.  Some use of public domain classical pieces but its appropriately used.  I've been shying away from single player games lately but every few minutes a new area or job type is introduced to keep me curious enough to continue.  So far I've built 5 houses (ups total units available) a barn (converts citizens to farmers), a guardhouse (soilders), a carpentry place (bridge/stair builders), town square (sets up suggestion box to activate sidequests) and an assembly podium.  I've also expanded my borders once and have now been instructed to ahnilahate the local fauna to procede.  Good times. Oh look, I did ramble.

I've been kinda keeping my eye on this as it sort of looks like a lighter version of The Horde. Does the game at least have progressive scan?

Don't think it does and don't think it would even make a difference.  The blurry look is kinda the style of game, like an pastel painting or something.  At least it has full wide screen and no black bars on the side.

I like how one of the first goals you have is to amass your white European-esque army, travel to a new land and kill all the black barbarians.  Even the Church tells you that religion wants them gone.

The soup church is something I never expected to see in this game. Ramen.  They even have a reference to the crusade against science.  There's an astronomer on a hill the priest doesn't like.

It's the first game in a while that has kept me entertained beyond the first 3 hours. It's pretty damn addictive.

I noticed with each passing day new things may happen independent of your choices.  My carpenters have a spot by the river where they like to shoot the breeze.  The farm district becomes more developed and gains new livestock.  I'm seeing dogs and sheep now.  I've heard cats meowing too but have never seen one.

I was looking to get this as well.  If I have Dawn of Discovery for Wii and love that, would I like this?

yeah, it's kinda like pikmin or overlord + nation builder game (civ, anno, w/e).  I like it more than pikmin because it's faster and most of the commands feel almost like a shooter instead of an rts.  The combat is all about timing about when to attack and when to retreat (A is attack, B is retreat); so, it's a lot of shooting, dodging and figuring out patterns.

one of the best wii game for sure

 :(

this is the first one in a long time that's actually good

plus, I think it was either the devs or publisher who said they want to bring their games to other systems since they sold poor on the wii

wii goty

That's not saying much.

yeah, I realize that it would be between Little King's Story and NSMBwii *tumbleweed*

madworld was fun for five or six hours, then it ended, and when I thought about my time with the game, it was a bit boring.  I still enjoyed it and it's probably the third best Wii game this year behind Tenchu 4 and LKS, but Tenchu 4 is a lot better on PSP, so I don't know what to make of that.  actually, Marble Madness Saga was really fun too.  I didn't play Boom Blox 2, but the first game was great, so the sequel might have also been great.  I don't know.

Just bought this and Munchables like 15 min ago...

swaggz, did you play Klonoa Wii? I never played the original on PS1, so the Wii game was a nice treat.

I forgot about Klonoa.  I liked that too even though I played the PS1 version.  Only issue I had with the Wii version was the 3D background blur effect was sometimes too distracting.

I'm having a hard time remembering what games I've played on the Wii this year; I'll have an even harder time remembering what games I played on other systems.

Alright, the big boss battles in this game are fucking awesome. I've only done two, but one was more fun--and miles more difficult--than the best that games like Yoshi's Island have to offer.
