Microsoft is teaming with five productions houses for a series of seven short films called Halo Legends, reports the Los Angeles Times. The five production houses are some of the biggest names in the industry:

Bones, Casio Entertainment, Production I.G., Studio4 C, and Toei Animation.

The creative director overseeing the production is Shinji Aramaki, director of Appleseed and Appleseed Ex Machina. Microsoft has also roped in Warner Bros. to distribute Halo Legends on DVD and via digital platforms early next year.

Norio FUCKING Wakamoto better be in this.

I don't get the fascination with the halo universe.  Its tacky and generic at the same time.   Especially the aliens.  You have gimpy midget hunchback things

or velociraptors with ninja turtle hands and predator mouths

or chewbacca tusk thing

Fuck

I enjoyed the games, therefore I read the books and enjoyed the overall universe.  If you really read into the Halo universe, you see that the Covenant are really like the humans to an extent... they're just lead by religious zealots that think the destruction of the universe is some kind of holy-orgazmotron.

Everybody's doing anthologies these, it seems. The Matrix and Batman, then there's Dante's Inferno and Halo. Not that I'm opposed to that, anthologies are awesome.

It's no Conduit-level quality, yeah.

Conduit enemies are halo inspired ....slightly. Another reason Conduit is mediocre.

And fuck the main character is Master Chief .  An uncreative and redundant name to go with an uncreative space suit with a built in ballcap and no personality.

The reason that John 117 is referred to as "Master Chief" is to reiterate the secrecy of the SPARTAN II project.  No one is supposed to know his name.  And, as a matter of fact, it was never mentioned in the game, until the final cutscene of Halo 3 where Cortana says "It was an honor serving with you, John" when she thought they were both going to die.

And if you really think the Mjolnir Mk II armor is just an "uncreative space suit", then jesus lol...

Did you know that there were more of what "Master Chief" was?  That they were abducted from their parents at the age of 8, and forced to either train to be super soldiers or die?  That they were genetically augmented, and experimented on?  And that nearly every one of them died in the line of duty?  Fuck man, that's no average everyday space shit.  That's a little more hard core.  Just a teeny bit.

Damn, Oscar worthy stuff ::)
Wtf, dude.  Are you a professor of halo canon?  Why do you think I care to hear about that?  You remind me of some gamefaqs nerd who thought he should put me in my place.  BY DISCUSSING THE GENEAOLOGY OF FUCKING DONKEY KONG.  Did you know cranky kong was originaly the kong who threw barrels at mario in the arcade? Yeah, I didn't give a flying fuck either.

It looks like they're making SPARTAN II's into gundams.  If this is the case, I will not be watching.

Fuck this animu shit. Give me a live action film!

The teasers for the live action Halo movie looked cool as shit before they got scrapped.  They're still available online.  I'd pull them into here, but I'm at work and can't access most of the stuff.

Yeah, those were great and District 9 looks amazing as well. I just don't understand why Microsoft is putting money into this when most fans wont even watch it because it's anime(and this is clear if you look at the online reaction). If this is Microsofts attempt at getting in good with the Japanese gamers then they're shit outta luck on that front too.

I doubt Microsoft is spending more than a couple of million bucks on this. Far less than a live-action Halo movie would cost.

I understand that, it's still a God Damn WASTE.

Well, it's not like they canceled the live-action Halo movie in favor of doing an anthology of animated shorts, so it's not as waste as far I'm concerned.

Twilight of humanity sci-fi is a guilty pleasure of mine. There's a few other peripheral things in the universe I enjoy but I feel kinda ashamed for being that way.
