the game forces you to watch a three minute video explaining how to plug in, remove and connect the nunchuck to the motion plus

so far

sword game = tech demo. snore.
archery = tech demo. snore.
sky diving = tech demo. snore.
bowling = same as first game. good if you don't have wii sports...uh
golf = get tiger woods. snore.
ping pong = FREAKING GREAT. A+++++

I'll try the rest later

and the thing makes you calibrate before every game by either pointing towards the screen or laying it on a flat surface for a few seconds. Gets a bit annoying.

Constantly requiring recalibration is so distinguished mentally-challenged. I never had that problem with Tiger Woods. The only worthwhile games are swordfighting, archery, frisbee and ping pong.

another annoyance is that they have those stupid "take a break" things before every game now instead of once in a while. A lot of this game has been made distinguished mentally-challenged fellow proof compared to Wii Sports. Even the tutorial parts go slower now and don't let you skip to the next message right away.

anyway

sword game survival mode is better than the other two sword stuff
bicycle is bad and I don't get why motion plus is needed; you waggle both hands to peddle, then lean to steer just line in Mario Kart or Excite truck
jet ski is similar to the bike, except instead of waggle peddling, it's flicking your wrist to throttle
water boarding is the worst
kayaking is surprisingly alright
basketball sucks
airplane doesn't really have a point, but it controls fine, so a pass I guess
frisbee golf is awesome; frisbee dog is trash

yeah, this is kinda lame. I do hope that someone makes a complete table tennis game in the future because it's really good. The rest sucks or is just meant to be a tech demo with whimsy.

and golf might actually be worse because it's hyper sensitive now. It makes you feel like the fucking hulk because a tiny swing is enough to overpower the gauge. They don't give you the sanctification of hitting the golf ball.

and comparisons to pilot wings and wave race is pretty dumb because those were games and these aren't.

Yeah, I think I'm skipping this too. Wii Music and Wii Fit feel like full fledged products with minigames tacked on. The sports/play brand always feel like tech demos.

I'd suggest Tiger Woods 10, swaggaz. There's a good blend of arcadeyness and rpg progression. Sometimes its a little too sim. The online has alot to offer too.

However, I think Grand Slam Tennis is too finicky about calibration. It automaticaly does it between returns so I'm hoping they emulate what Nintendo did with ping pong next year. The feature list in GST was great.

Oh, and theres been alot of Wii games with achievements lately. Excitebots and Overkill had good ones because they are tied to unlockables. Boom Blox 2 has pointless ones that don't do shit.So achievements not tied to unlockables STILL blow.

Tiger Woods does require constant calibration. Try holding your wiimote down at the floor while twisting your wrist. Notice how its in a neutral position. Same with disc golf. Why do you think it asks you to pick up the disc? Why do you think it asks you to pick it up again if you drop it?

yeah, this is a waste. I got tired of the sword game already. Ping Pong is still great, but it's just exhibition matches for the most part. I don't imagine that even when playing with friends the bad games (most of them) will get better.

yeah, people said that about wii music too.

I've played enough wii mini-game collections with friends to know which ones will be fun. The only game that will probably get a lot better in multiplayer is the flying game because there is a two player dog fight mode. Ping Pong is basically Tennis x1000, and we used to play Tennis a ton.

I just played the demo at gamestop. The only events I enjoyed were ping pong and bowling. Bowling doesn't have that distinguished mentally-challenged auto spin to center anymore and is much better. What I really want is full fledged versions of ping pong and bowling with online integration, not part of this package.

The game is pretty fun (for a while) if you play it with friends/family

What is the appeal of computer ping-pong, over actually playing ping-pong? I mean, I get it for stuff like music games where it lets you rock out to popular songs with a backing band etc. without actually having to buy expensive instruments, put in years of practice, find people to play with and a place to play, etc., but ping-pong?

the reason it's fun is because it's a super lazy, still enjoyable version of ping pong. To make it seem like a marketing pitch: "it's all the thrills of ping pong without the effort!*" (*not including the $360 + tax you need to spend to buy a wii, the game, and another controller + motion plus)

against the computer it reaches a point where each match is really easy, but against a friend, you can go back and forth for a good while. I don't know if it's as intense as Ping Pong on the 360, since that is a better game even without the motion controls, but like I said before, I would totally buy a dedicated hardcore ping pong game for the Wii now.

btw, dogfighting and a lot of the other multiplayer only games are just as boring as the regular versions. Though, I think the plane flying game has some appeal in single player since it has crackdown-like orb hunting.

Theres a gym with a basketball court and a bar with pool tables. The arcade has air hockey.
