Tales of Vesperia is so fucken good
« on: July 27, 2009, 04:07:10 AM »
Finally got its PAL release! Best JRPG Ive played since Lost Odyssey I reckon. Battle system is usual Tales ass, but the graphics, voice-work and dungeons are all totally awesome!

Those Boritos that have 1000/1000'ed this game: Whats the best way to do it? I hear you need to do multiple playthroughs. Im not too keen to just use a FAQ for my first go. I just want to enjoy the game and then replay it with a sidequest/missable item guide. Is that how its done? All the achievement descriptions are crazy wacky jappy shit

You're gonna need demi's help on this one. I couldn't deal with the confusing ass guides for this game, so I just did the sidequests that were hard to miss and that weren't too time consuming. Demi said you need to play through 3 times to get 1000/1000.

The battle system gets better.

Its gets better? Thats cool. Yeah I generally rate rpgs on their battle system but the characters and jokes and stuff in this game are awesome enough.

Ive been perusing Gamefaqs and x360a.org but Im still a little confused as to what the best way to 1000 the game is. I think i'll just beat it once then worry about achievements.

Read the previous Vesperia thread..

Use Kouli's guide for your first run at least, it will get the titles out of the way and other misc. stuff

2nd run is the speedrun, where you get level 99 and max money, etc

3rd run (and the final achievement) is the lowlevel run.

Awesome game, yeah. I just finished it like a week or so ago. Theirs just so much stuff I can definitely see needing a guide for everything. I mean one of the achieves is putting 100 hours into the game.

maybe best 360 jrpg

You will easily do 100 hours going for the 1000. You can transfer game time using Grade.

Okey dokey printed this giude out:

http://ameblo.jp/koulinovesperia/entry-10143410717.html

Is this the right one? Luckily I didnt miss anything. Talked to the dude on the roof and the Travelling Inn. I take it just follow this guide to a T and Magic Lens everything on the first playthrough? Everything else can be grinded out/collected endgame? (except for the speedrun and low level achieves)

:lol yeah that.

there are also skills that change some of your arte attacks to something different, like change it to a fire based attack and so on.

battle-wise it gets better after the 1st arc.

once you learn the skills so that you can link base/arcane/altered artes together the battle system gets way awesome

oh and there are these skills that but you into OL after a certain amount of hits. they're great for finishing off a nice long combo with a burst arte

I just started playing this a few days ago and I'm really liking it. I'm kinda annoyed by how easy it is to miss a lot of the side-stuff (I didn't magic lens the first couple of bosses) but I'll probably finish it off on the next playthrough if I go for 1000/1000. Secret Mission 4 is driving me insane though. it's ridiculously hard.

it is pretty easy to get overleveled in this.  I just did some average grinding and was well above where I needed to be for that boss.  hard mode is pretty good though.

That's nothing. I'm not going to spoil anything, but there's a secret mission that is a huge pain in the ass to get.  Those who've payed the game know what I'm talking about.

I know EXACTLY what boss Rman is talking about... tried about 8 times then was just like "fuck it"... got most of the other secret missions... there is one that requires a missable item to solve (didn't get that one either), so make sure you are using a guide if you are trying to get the secret missions.

Coincidentally I just got done with my first playthrough of this game last night.  I think that Tales of the Abyss was probably slightly better but not as pretty.  It's just hard to beat Jerk Luke as a protagonist.

Also, anyone who has ever done any grade grinding will know what I mean when I say:  "TIDAL WAVE!  BLAH BLAH BLAH!  TIDAL WAVE!  BLAH BLAH BLAH!"

The hard part is rebooting 360 every time you fail a secret mission, have to go through all that text again.

And I always end up watching that Opening.

I'm 35 hours in and still dont really get the combat system all that well.  My highest combo is 63 but I've yet to really ever use a burst arte and I don't bother much with chaining... I guess I should, but I haven't really felt all that compelled to.  I just got to the Sword Drifts and I assume I am probably about 2/3rds of the way through.  Unfortunately I didn't Magic Lens stuff at the beginning so I am probably screwed on that achievement but oh well.  I am not much of a completionist.  I probably should have printed something out for the Secret Missions -- I've just been getting them on occasion naturally.

Anyway, just wanted to say that I agree this is an amazing game and it's probably the only jRPG I've played this gen and truly loved.  The Sega anime SRPG is about it in terms of others that have really impressed me.
