looks like a bad Splinter Cell clone.

If it wasn't called 'Batman', no one would care.

I just wish to point out that the studio's previous game was the really fucking good Urban Chaos: Riot Response (PS2/Xbox).  For that alone I'd consider it worth a look.

Demo is supposed to be out tomorrow (Friday) on 360, PS3 and PC.  The PC game was just delayed a month so they could add in Physx support, so, that might not actually be out tomorrow.

The game looks pretty awesome.  It is kinda a Splinter Cell clone, but I don't get why that's a bad thing; Tenchu 4 was a Splinter Cell clone and that was great.  Only thing I don't like about the game is that the PS3 version has "exclusive content" so hopefully that version isn't too bad.

thankfully someone took pity on that version and threw'em a bone with the joker challenge maps

pretty fun.  demo is the first 10 minutes of the game and doesn't let you really play around much.  I thought the game would be like Tenchu 4 where enemies had routines and it was more like a puzzle game, but it actually feels more dynamic than Splinter Cell Chaos Theory. Regular combat feels like a faster Assassin's Creed.

:gloomy sub hd on ps3 :gloomy

edit: might just be a nasty blur filter

is it really sub hd? I have nothing to compare it to (yet) but it still has some aliasing issues and there is a weird blur effect that seemed like it was there for style.

The guys at B3D have just confirmed the PS3 version as full 1280x720, its a very heavy blur filter that is giving the ugly, smudged low resolution look. Terrible art decision if you ask me.

i dunno but it looks great and it plays fairly well. honestly i thought it was going to be little more than a brawler. being able to zip around enemies from above and come up behind them to choke'em out is awesome

my only concern at this point is that it might be too linear

I think the demo just gives a bad impressions at first.  The last section seems to be more what the game will be about judging from videos and the fact that there is a challenge mode all about score attacks in those levels.

And unless the game has new game plus or the demo limits your items, I'm guessing it's an open area.  In one of the early rooms there is a destructible wall that you can't destroy yet.

I think it's an okay game. It's a Splinter Cell rip-off that's too easy (but this could just be the demo's difficulty), has some stylish "Batman" moves, and a slow-moving/too easy, but competent fighting system.

My favorite thing right now is fighting with a grapple point nearby. While on top of a gargoyle, I used the grappling hook to bring a guy up to me, then Batman hit him and sent him flying back down, with a rope around his feet.   Him dangling there brought more guards to check it out, and I jumped down to take one out, then was able to grapple back UP to the gargoyle to avoid the other's gunfire. THAT was cool.

So I like the sneaking stuff/stealth take-downs (reminds me of Tenchu 4), but am kind of "eh" on the combat, due to its simplicity and slow moving fights. Hopefully you aren't forced into combat sequences with no way to escape like in the beginning of the demo.

I thought the demo itself was ok. I'm not going to throw $60 at it, but it seems a bit above average for a licensed superhero game.

PC version at max with 16x AA still has a bit of a weird look to it.  It runs really great on my system with physx turned off, but that stuff seems to add more here than it did for Mirror's Edge.  It lets you punch through walls, destroy the environments and stuff like that.  There are other minor things like smoke effects, cobwebs that peel and the cloth at some points, but destructible environments being added is something substantial.

Yeah it is.

Holy shit really? I just watched Revenge of the Joker last night and he sounded really different...not nearly as good in this one. Is Kevin Conroy voicing Bats?

Then again, I also thought the voice acting in Gotham Knight was crappy too, so maybe they're just phoning it in nowadays  :-\

Great size for a demo. Demos with under 1GB size are shitty shitfests.

Who cares about demo sizes with 1TB drives anyway?

well that was one hell of a demo. ended up ordering the CE for $37 at amazon.

Did anyone notice in the large broiler room area that on one of the glass walls there is a riddler question mark? Wonder what that's all about.  Sure was a lot of fun though a lot better than the challenge room demo gamestop has had.

Uh ok but aren't those pretty big (80GB) harddrives anyway? 1.58 GB is quite small.

Lots of people only have 20GB hard drives.  That's their problem though.   :P  The price for a 120GB HDD for 360 is a rip-off, but you can use a variety of cheap/reasonably-priced notebook HDDs for the PS3.  I replaced my PS3 20GB HDD with a 160GB HDD a few years back; finally replaced my 20GB 360 HDD with a 120GB HDD a few months ago.

The demo wasnt anywhere near close enough content for 2GB... get real. You beat up like 10 guys and that's it. Assuming the game rips at 6GB, we should get at least 1/3 of the game based on the demo size.

What is more apparent is that from a cursory inspection it's clear that the 360 has a marginal advantage in image quality, owing to the usual UE3 inclusion of 2xMSAA where there is none on the PS3. Again, the impact here is not so pronounced owing to the darker colour palette employed. Other than that, differences are minimal – a motion blur effect used sparingly when switching between scenes in the engine-driven cinematics is absent on PS3, and just like Wolverine there are differences in some of the lighting, most notably with the inclusion of SSAO (Screen Space Ambient Occlusion) on 360 which helps adds depth to the scene. However, it has to be said that these effects are difficult to notice: the dark and the general gloom really is a great leveller.
