I just got my job that I've been waiting for awhile for!! FUCK RETAIL.

I'm starting off pretty decently too, and I gotta go take a drug test and get fingerprinted tomorow! I'm so excited I thought I'd share with you guys <3.

I already told this hot ass girl I'll take her out with my first paycheck and she said yes.

I love you guys, so happy

edit: My hours are also too awesome, and the one day they conflict with my school schedule my manager is willing to work around them

Well if anything SHOULD happen and I do NEED money again and I cant get a job right away i'll do retail again, but after some years doing what I do at my current job, my resume should keep me well away from retail.

Im not really above retail so much as I feel bad for people stuck in it and feel sorry for them if it is not their life choice

Retail wouldn't be so bad if full-time people were able to work more of a set schedule. For most folks, you just work whenever the fuck they want you to. So you could work 2-10 one day and then 9-5 the next.

You can put retail up when you go home for the day, you are not your job. Working in game journalism, you're expected to spend all your "free" time playing games (you love games, right?) to (p)review during your regular work day. Unfortunately, your job really is little more than regurgitating PR with a little bit of flavor and spin. It's like buying a premade cake from the grocery store and adding little frosting flowers on top, and then telling everyone "look, I baked a cake!" Not really.

Nobody reads what you write, anyhow; they just want numbers and more numbers. At least with retail you can bitch about your stupid customers. Game journalism, you have no one to blame by yourself. I guess that's why there're so many open-bar parties in the industry.

No i'm pretty poor after i pay my bills and shit each month i live off nothing more than a few coin a day. I was making some mad bucks with having two jobs but I only have the one right now since I was fired.

Was. I drank myself out of the industry and spend my days now working at an independent PC development studio. Right now, all of our hopes are pinned on a single project...
