Author Topic: Ryu ga Gotoku 3: Pimp my Orphan and Racist Japan Strikes Black! (Read 1670 times)

I've been playing through Ryu ga Gotoku 3 the last couple days, and I'm currently on chapter 4. At the moment I have to go buy one the kids at Kazuma's orphanage some stylish clothes so this girl he likes will go to the movies with him. It's either an American polo shirt or one with a dragon on it, and sunglasses or a beret. Oh, did I mention that this is actually a competition with another yakuza member?

I want to punch people and figure out why Daigo got shot and how come Kazama is back from the dead being all evil, not running around doing fetch quests for little kids and their dogs (there are TONS of them so far). I think they've firmly established that Kiryuu wants nothing to do with being a yakuza anymore by running an orphanage. I don't need to keep running around on errands for the brats. Political intrigue, punching tigers and heat gauge powers GOOD. Fetch quests for poor Japanese orphans not good.

I wonder what the people bitching about this game not coming to North America would think if they knew just how much stupid fetching there is early on this title.

These aren't even optional sidequests, they're required to advance the story to the actual awesome parts of the game.

Maybe it picks up once he leaves Okinawa...

There's a trophy for knocking 100 people on the ground while running around town... I'm actually trying to get it... $:-\$

Xenophobic Japan Strikes Back!

So the stalking kid was rejected by the girl due to him being black (or half black and half Japanese, they're not very clear about it). However, the girl gets humiliated in front of her crush due to the burns all over her arms that resulted from a fire that killed her parents. Black kid runs up and punches the other dude for doing that. The girl asks black kid if he's disgusted by her burn or not. He says no, that he knows it's really painful for her, and then mentions he's got burned-looking skin all over, so it's ok.

Black people are apparently burn victims. WOW. Good job, Japan.

RGG3 is actually pretty damn awesome when you're not doing fetch quests for orphans and dogs.

Hopefully it ends when Kazuma leaves Okinawa.

RGG stories are balls. The intrigue is always shitty, the gang storylines are always underplayed. The only good thing about the writing are the characters.

But this sounds terrible.

hopefully ends with Kazuma meeting up with the Shenmue dude, then raping and murdering him and writing "There will not be a fucking Shenmue 3!!!" in blood on the walls.

So far the story is worse than the first two modern-day titles. Kiryuu is about to leave Okinawa for mainland-Japan, so hopefully we have less of the kids.

all you need is: Kazuma and Majima have a reason to fight, or something, so they do. A++++ story.

my memory of the Yakuza 2 story is roughly: blah blah guy with blonde hair blah....MAJIMA!...blah Korea sucks blah blah...blah blah guy wants to rape woman blah...MAN BABIES!..blah blah Korea really sucks blah blah.

The only reference to Korea so far in this game is some old lady's infatuation with a Korean actor while riding her moped.

However, there's a lengthy scene discussing why the Chinese are inferior to the Japanese, since they'll eat anything and everything that breathes.

After some total WTF moments early on, the game has 100% redeemed itself by being awesome. Beating the hell out of the Chinese Triad, loads of awesome weapons and heat moves, severed heads in suitcases and Kazama's American brother.
