zzz. More 60 dollar games.

:lol So you are poor. Ok, don't beat around the bush. No wonder you are suddenly into PC gaming.

Well, not really. It's mostly an issue of value. I don't see the point in spending 60 dollars (which is overpriced to begin with) on a game when, for the last few months, I get tired of playing games within just a few minutes. I'll turn it on and turn it off and be all,"What is the point of this?" and then go watch a movie or read a book or something.

The game will likely end up being disappointing or average anyways, so who cares.

Really can't explain it. I love games, so I don't know why I don't feel like playing them.

I think the game that made me feel like this was Metal Gear Solid 4. I played that in April, and like, aside from the Jak trilogy which I scooped up soon after, and WoW, I haven't really been enthusiastic towards games at all. MGS4 sucked balls.

Dude you need to play some shooters ASAP. Gears 2 and L4D did nothing for you? Crysis?

Haven't played Gears 2 or L4D. Only played the Crysis demo. It was alright.

I don't see why shooters will suddenly make me want to play games. When I played Gears 1 I was only able to play it for 30 minutes at a time before getting bored out of my mind.

Then again, Uncharted is fun as hell.

zzz

none of those games are on my priority list. I played MvC2 for a year straight like 10 years ago. zzz. Splosion Man looks like Bionic Commando except you replace the arm with the ability to explode. I have played Worms so much I don't really care to play another one. Red Faction could be neat, but not something I'd buy at full price. Infamous could be great, but I'm sure it does nothing to innovate the sandbox genre, plus it's another 60 dollar game that could potentially be a stinker.

Same old, same old. It's not like I am missing anything by not playing them. Either they are sequels, a clone of something I've already played 9999 times, or another rerelease of a game I've put in hundreds of hours into over a decade ago.

Out of that list, the one game that interests me in the least is Fat Princess.

How about Knights in the Nightmare on DS?

Well it's also the summer, I couldn't blame you if you wanted to just get out of the house and spend some time outside rather than play games... I can't find too much I'm interested in either, so that's why I (mostly) stick to older games I have yet to play.

Sony responds to the NPD,but nothing from NPD is mentioned in PR :lol

About NPD
I don't see this as a bad month, except for Playstation family, but that is business as usual.Sales during summer months were always "low"-200k-ish,spiked by occasional blockbuster software releases.

Nintendo situation shows that price is just one of many things that influence console sales, last gen is a true example of it.
If Wii Fit was at 400k,Wii would be at 500k...
Nintendo problem is that genius things(sales wise) like Wii Fit appear once in 10 years and third party support is mostly very bad, people are noticing things like, where is Red Faction,Saints Row,GTA,Batman,Assassins Creed,etc,etc... Wii...By people i mean people that walk into game stores.
I mean even PSP is getting Ass Creed,GTA,etc...something and Wii the "market leader" is getting nothing.

Hardware and software sales are down YOY compared to July 2007 and July 2008.  The industry is around 15% down YOY for the entire year.  It's a little bad for everyone right now, though obviously it's more bad for Sony and only mildly bad for Nintendo.

How is KitN? I hear good things. I'm really ashamed I still haven't picked up Devil Survivor seeing as how it's an SMT game and all but I still haven't beaten Raidou 2. I don't even feel like playing it.

Thankfully this fall sports more than a few games I'm interested in which I'm pretty sure won't suck or end up feeling like a waste of money and time.

MGS4 was definitely that bad.  I couldn't believe I had waited years for it.

and I've been trying to enjoy a lot of the 2009 games and can't.  RE5, SFIV, and BlazBlue were good, but I can't remember any others that I've enjoyed that came out this year.

I have been playing FF games all summer. I beat FF1, I was halfway through FF8 and then my save file got corrupt...that really made me not want to play anymore but I'm halfway through FF5 now. I wanna go on to FF6 and then play FF2 after that.

And yeah, I go to 16 or 32 bit when I don't feel like playing games. But it's not working anymore. I even get bored playing through Thunderforce IV.

Borys, I usually beat FF8 in a week or two.

But when my save data got corrupt I was 20 hours in and on disc 2 and I had been playing for a month.

I can't even get into FF8 and it's one of those games I play annually.

I didn't say I couldn't get into new games. I played RE5 front to back, 1000/1000, whatever. It's not really the fact that a game is old or new, I can't get into them period. I play a game and I start thinking,"What is the point of this? This is a total waste of time." and turn it off after a few minutes.

If that doesn't work then quit gaming for couple of years, forced entertainment=pointless.

I feel bad hearing anything about that game.  They just showed off the multiplayer and I kept wondering "I don't think anyone will even play this mode", then Schafer goes on to say the game was worked on for four years, and they show off the huge tracklist and voice talent that EA paid for.

It will probably do better than Uncharted 2 that is coming out on the same day.  Both games are fucked against the might of WotS3, also on the same day.

Brutal Legend is just to narrowly focused to be successful.  It's a metal themed Psychonauts.  Sadly, Activision was right.  It would have sold more as a Guitar Hero: Metal Edition. :'(

That might be true.  Just among games I'm interested in, only Borderlands (2 weeks before) and GTA4 Gay Tony (a week before) seem like they can popular.  Actually, Gay Tony is shipping on a retail DVD with Lost and the Damned as it's own product, and people might think it's a new GTA game, so who knows.

Brutal Legend is just to narrowly focused to be successful.  It's a metal themed Psychonauts.  Sadly, Activision was right.  It would have sold more as a Guitar Hero: Metal Edition. :'(

I think it might have a bit more appeal than Psychonuats since it appears to be an action game like God of War/DMC/Ninja Gaiden, but really it's an Action/RTS hybrid, almost like Overlord.

In general I'm a lot less interested in games coming out later this year.  That borecast about budget gaming made me think about how much I waste on games, so most things I'm on the edge about I'm gonna skip.

Only game coming out worth getting for the rest of the year is Fallout 3 GOTY Edition.  2009 has been crap for console games... there HAVE been good games, but I just won't pay $60 for a fighter, that's dumb.  So I've missed lots of quality stuff like SF4 and BlazBlue, but screw paying $60 for 'em.  I really also wanted to check out Sacred 2 since I want a good hack n slash lootfest, but again not for $60.  I'm not as cheap/broke/incarcerated as himumu, either.

What he said.  Takes level cap from 20 to 30, too.  Considering that the original Fallout 3 was EASILY worth $60 at release, this is absolutely a no brainer for everybody that doesn't already have the dlc.  I spent probably around 140 hours playing Fallout 3.

I really thought this gen would get dragged out a bit at least by MS and Sony.

They're the ones with the least to gain by dragging this gen out.  Especially Sony.  At any rate, the consumer is ultimately the one that decides if no one else will, and the consumers, they are a-decidin'.

Seriously?

I figured they would want to stretch it out as long as possible because creating new consoles costs hundreds of millions of dollars at least as well as a new profit curve.  Besides, how much money can Sony actually burn through or at least willing to burn through?

you have to "enter" them outside the main map, although you can bring any loot you find/steal/earn/kill for back with you to the main wasteland, and broken steel introduces a few new enemies into the main wasteland

Himruo, buy this if you haven't played the Half Life games:  http://store.steampowered.com/sub/715/

$17 for every game in the series

So, is Scribblenauts gonna actually be good, or is it just one big gimmick? I know GAF hype is off the charts for it.

A really cool gimmick.  It's a puzzle game where solutions are whatever you think of.  It gradually gets harder by either making you think in more steps or thinking about different ways to solve it.

The gaf praise is part fanservice, part because it's on a Nintendo system, part the "new/fresh-ness" of it and part people who are genuinely into the idea.  I have seen posts before where people said other than the DS, the Wii is the only system that could handle Scribblenauts.

Crazy high standards or whatever, that's pretty awesome.

Half Life 1 is a classic.

Half Life 2 was alright.

Blue Shift is decent.

Counterstrike is the shit.

I still haven't played Half Life ep 1 or 2 yet because Mupepe has had my copy of Orange Box for ages. I might as well buy a new one. :lol

Himruo, buy this if you haven't played the Half Life games:  http://store.steampowered.com/sub/715/

$17 for every game in the series

So, is Scribblenauts gonna actually be good, or is it just one big gimmick? I know GAF hype is off the charts for it.

To be fair, a lot of it has to do with the ridonkulous backlog that I have since I didn't get into this gen until last December, unless you count briefly borrowing a Wii so that I could play Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn a while back.  I mean, I've just barely played a little of Gears I, haven't gotten into Gears II, haven't bothered with Halo 3, haven't played either Saints Row, etc etc etc.  Right now I'm playing the hell out of Tales of Vesperia.  As soon as I don't have quality games to get on the cheap I might be more inclined to paying $60 for a game (which I've done a grand total of twice, Fallout 3 and RE5) but right now why frickin' bother?
