Apparently you can stream the first season in HD on netflix, so a friend and I started it tonight. I'm six episodes in now...why aren't they eating each other yet? where's this food coming from? why is the asian couple straight out of a pulpy kung fu mafia movie? did Locke kill the monster? what are they eating? what the hell is up with all the people they don't focus on?

and of course, why am I addicted to this?

I'm like 5 years late, but this is good stuff. it's partially filling the gap that the Wire left in my life after I finished that. Although I'm a little scared of it getting bad, 'cause I understand the show is still going and unless it's some "Lost: The College Years" shit, I'm guessing the plot is getting wonky.

season 1 is the best season. enjoy the "trying to survive on the island" portion of the storyline while it lasts

It's not bad at all though. It's just the show totally shifts focus after season 1. I loved season 2, although I seem to be a minority.

I'm pretty sure it was greenlit to be Surviour: The Series, but to keep elements of the Island a mystery a backstory to everything was written. The old common complaint was "they're making it up as they go along", now the shift in focus of the last couple seasns have been them delivering on things they setup earlier and some of the resolution seems to be rubbing people the wrong way. I'm looking forward to the last season though.

Yeah

Don't worry though, you probably won't really start disliking the show until the 5th season; the pacing is a lot easier to deal with when you're able to watch one episode right after the other.

The gf and I just got all caught up last week. And yeah, it is gonig to be sad when it's done. This show has managed to keep my attention like none other. The few times I started getting bored with it, the show redeemed itself pretty quickly.

And Benjamin Linus is awesome.

I thought season 1 of Lost sucked balls except for maybe the last couple of epsiodes. IMO, Lost doesn't really start until they blow the hatch.

the show is completely insane now. it's one of the craziest shows i've ever seen. every single week I threw my hands up in shock at how over the top it was getting.

i remember a long time ago they said and i am paraphrasing "every mystery on the show can be scientifically explained"

they've clearly threw that out the window. now it's just TIME TRAVEL, DISAPPEARING ISLANDS, PSYCHICS, ANCIENT EGYPTIAN IMMORTALS, PROPHECY, HYDROGEN BOMBS.

but honestly, i don't mind. i'm glad the show has embraced it's story. fuck making it all make perfect sense. the more crazy it gets the less i have to try to understand it all.

I need to re-watch the previous seasons still. Going through S1 right now, and god I loved the atmosphere of that season. Everything related to Locke was so cryptic and awesome

Season 5 starts slow but when they finally get to the point it's about 85% awesome, and the finale is one of the best.

The beginning of Season 3 was poorly paced, but that was due because the showrunners didn't get the okay from ABC when they could end the show.
