Tuesday Thread of Eating & Drinking
« on: August 18, 2009, 09:58:59 PM »
I'm going grocery shopping in a few. Need some ideas for dinner for the next few days.

Probably do a beef roast one night, pasta another (homemade cream sauce :rock), chicken stuffed with mozzarella & provel cheeses & prosciutto ham another night....

What about you guys? You have to eat at some point today, and if not, you're getting plastered, so fess up!

Wife is out of town for the next week visiting family, so that means two things-I can make mexican and make hamburgers for dinner instead of my usual pan-asian, middle eastern, and french fare.

So I whipped up some homemade chicken fajitas (w/ mushrooms, 2 peppers, and an onion and a half) with some real nice black beans and rice, lots of tasty spices which are forbidden with her around. Just got done eating, super yums.

I keep telling my wife that rooster (on the chili sauce bottle, assuming you're using what everyone else seems to) will go berserk in one of my thai dishes one day!

Boil some Angel Hair pasta for 3-4 minutes.

Grab a bag, put in 1/2 cup of flour, tablespoon of oregano, salt and pepper.

Dice up some chicken breasts. Put it in the bag and shake shake.

Get a skillet. Put in a few hunks of butter.

Throw in the battered chicken and brown (about 2 minutes on both sides).

Add 3/4 cup of marsala wine and splash him any other red wine you have laying around. Throw in some sliced mushrooms.

Cover and cook for 10 minutes.

Add in a small bit of heavy whipping cream and stir.

Throw it on top of the angel hair pasta.

Sririacha is good, but you guys gotta check out the stuff that's usually next to it in the the store-- the stuff that comes in the jar with the same rooster and the green cap.  It's like sriracha, but with chunks of pepper and actual seeds, so it's kinda hot.  the taste is amazing.

Just made some stir fry for dinner.  Cut up chicken breast with lots of garlic powder (grainy kind, not actual powder kind), frozen asian veggie mix, rice in the rice cooker, soy sauce and vinegar..done.  Simple, but I can never get sick of stir fry.

it's also the most advanced dish I can make :teehee

Mushrooms are great with about 90% of all meals. :drool Maybe more!

Most times, I'll make them as a side dish. Olive oil butter garlic with lots of spices in a wok-type pan + mushrooms = pure gold

My wife and I love mushrooms so much that I normally double the amount the recipe calls for without thinking twice about it.

A lower-fat preparation of mushrooms is a very slight bit of olive oil, add some wine, and then cover on low heat and let the mushrooms absorb the wine and release their liquid. They'll stay plump and you have a nice built-in easy sauce for the mushrooms by just letting the wine reduce a bit without the mushrooms before serving. I usually like to do this with fish dishes, and then I use a big lemon wedge to flavor both the fish and the mushrooms.

Grilled some chicken on skewers, and had some panini bread covered with green/red peppers and onions (store-bought), corn on the cob and rice. Tomorrow I'm gonna make burgers, stuff them with diced onions and marinate with teriyaki and cayenne pepper seasoning. I've gotten fairly adept at grilling over the past year, from being someone who used to burn toast in the oven.

for brrrrrrreakfast I made a simple omelet and salad, but I took some tips from food network on how to properly work an omelet.  Mainly I put my eggs in warm water to reduce them to room temp, and then used some sort of spread and scoop method. Without milk, the omelet came out with a soft fluffy inside.

I am looking to make a Turkey Hot Brown soon.  It's turkey loaf slices on french toast, topped with bacon and light cheese sauce, tomato and greens. I am having trouble finding some turkey loaf.

Currently I am drinking vermouth and tonic water.

Now I'm just super fucking exhausted from an overbudget, overpartied, oversmoked weekend in Vancouver and hoping that a night of heavily drinking cheap beer will perk me up.

The foccacia is literally as easy as making toast. I have a bread maker which pumps out awesome dough. you just shape it, throw on some bits and pieces of leftover food (veggies, meat, cheese), drizzle on some olive oil and a little salt and throw it in the oven. It's insanely good when straight from the oven, soft & warm & puffy on the inside and crispy on the outside.  My daughter loves it so I've been making it a lot.

My family are seafaring folks, so thanks to their tutelage, I have mastered the fine art cooking seafood.  I eat fish daily now.

Oh, I've got no qualms about your bourgeois menu - I am just not a fan of tomatoes unless they're pretty much pureed.

I pretty much eat tilapia every other day. I love it so much. Cooking it in two tablespoons of olive oil, throw some cajun seasoning on it. Mmmm.
