Since next-gen is over (winner: no one), let's recommend some awesome new games for the last true bastion of next-gen gaming--the platform where all true gamers will make their last stand against the forces of waggle 'n' sniff immersion--the final refuge of gamer humanity in this barren, post-apocalyptic landscape of gameplay-free casual "experiences": the PC.

Digital distribution and freeware/shareware suggestions are welcome! I like those things, because they are truly next-gen. 

Also, I wrote a poem about tonight:

Xbox 360 is the future of console gaming. DQ10 going to the DS doesn't mean shit in the US, and it won't stop your favorite companies from making more jappawacca RPG games for your console of choice.

I think a lot of the praise DQ gets in the states is based off of what magazines have told gamers in regards to HOW they SHOULD feel about a DQ game when in reality most everyone has only played 8 and MIGHT have played 7. Hardcore Forum Types arent an accurate indication of which way the wind blows, not by a longshot.

I dont doubt it has a chance at selling well just because its possible it will be a good game, but as PD pointed out, DQ doesnt have the same effect here in the states.

It will sell decently in the US because of the major marketing push it'll get as well as the DS' popularity. Selling 200,000 copies of DQVIII in the US would probably be seen as a slight success to SE, but selling 200,000 copies on the DS in the US would be pure profit.

I think it's absolutely hilarious that this little handheld with graphics equivalent to a what.. 64?  maybe some games can pull off gamecube power maybe?  and it's the best selling thing.....  all of the graphics whores who constantly talk about "next generation" are buying all of their super expensive games, but everyone else (including a lot of non gamers) are buying this thing.

I personally would love to just give Nintendo a high five just because they've really pulled out how to advertise to those who never played games before.  They make quick, fun, simple games... and then there are a few more in depth ones for the more hardcore gamers who happen to have lives that don't have more than an hour to play something during the day sometimes.

The Nintendo Wii is a huge jump.. and I'm afraid it might be a little bit too big of an item for the average non gamer to take on and actually play on a regular basis, but I hear it's been kicking ass so who knows.  A ton of oldschool zelda fans bought it just for that.

I personally would always say "NINTENDO IS GONNA BEAT EVERYONE!" just for the hell of it, but I didn't really think it'd be true.. and still honestly I think the bigger companies with more money will eventually take them out, but man right now they're doing a great fuckin job for the resources they have IMO.

I'm not that experienced with the hardware put into the systems, but I'm wondering if maybe the Wii will end up selling a hardware upgrade attachment in the coming years.  Do you think they would do something like that?  Or would it even be possible?

If so... how effective would it be?

I remember N64 doing something similar with some little red box-chip thingy you had to put in the front to play games like Donkey Kong 64.  I'm just wondering if maybe that will be possible so they could somewhat be on par with the bigger companies' power.

Girls like Wii tennis? Uh, hooray! That still doesn't account for its sub-Pong gameplay. (Pong at least lets you move the paddle.)

Anecdotally, girls also like World of Warcraft, which is a great sight more complicated than the Fisher Price My First Sports Game that comes with every new Nintendo console. If we want to get girls into the industry--and I think it's an admirable goal--there are better ways about it than "make games suck for everyone."

So I got my haircut today, and the chinese haircut lady was all chatty and she started talking about how Wii owners were gonna sue Nintendo cause they hurt themselves with the Wii controller. I pointed out to her that all the stupid exaggerated movements weren't required to play the games so Nintendo can't really be at fault.

Then followed her rant about how people from india steal jobs and how her husband believes their houses and cars are funded by terrorism.

First of all Wii sports doesnt suck. And the reason girls love it is because its so easy to use. I often here, "what buttons do i have to press" and when I tell them none the look is priceles. Also tho cares about e fatties playing WoW. Get their stinky vag out of my face.
