THE GREAT EVILBORE BALDUR'S GATE 2 REPLAY
« on: August 21, 2009, 01:43:14 PM »
Since Triumph seems to have inspired us to whip out or dusty copies of Baldur's Gate 2 (I have the special edition with the golden discs, har har), I thought it might be amusing to do a group replay. Compare quest notes etc.

I've never actually finished the game, which is weird. I've sunk in 100+ hours over the years, but I don't think I ever made it past Disc 3. SO, I'm comitting. New laptop, new me. Let's do it.

Not really. Diablo II is all about fighting and loots, while Baldur's Gate II is a straight-up RPG with lots of quests and dialogue.

Very mediocre OG campaing (like worse than BG1), good first expansion Shadows of Undrentide (BG1 level), AMAZING second expansion Hordes of the Underdark (easily BG2 Throne of Bhaal level). Defending the city in HotU is just :hyper

I would say NWN1 is worth for the Hordes of the Underdark alone. You don't even have to play through the absolute BORE of OG campaign first!

Screw it, I went ahead and ordered NWN Diamond and some el cheapo usb speakers for the REPUBLIC OF GAMERS.  NWN Diamond was only $13.49 on Amazon.  Can't beat the price!

I even liked NWN OG even though it is universally shat on but according to demi I like shit games so there :gloomy

NWN 1 got a 89% at Gamerankings, so it actually got really good reviews.

I played the shit out of BG2 but only got about halfway through Throne of Bhaal. It was amazing but I just hit this one dungeon that beat the crap out of my party wherever I turned. Literally could not escape it. Didn't want to revert to an old save point and left it there. It gnaws at me. I think I have my old saves on CD somewhere but yeah digging them up is too much like hard work :lol

I just remember most of my party being Time Stopped and such pretty much as soon as I walked through this one door. Just a total clusterfuck :lol

Very tempted to go re-install now. That dungeon is my white whale.

What's the word on playing this in modern resoultions? I know BG was pretty mod friendly so there must be some decent solution.

So... a month and change before Avellone's Alpha Protocol hits and a month and change before Gaider's Dragon Age hits.

Cool beans.  Yeah, it's about time to break out the BG2 and Planescape.

Planescape: The one thing that Conservatives, Liberals, and Liberatarians can agree on. :rock

First game by Obsidian since kotorII, hopefully this time they didn't get pressured into releasing an unfinished product.  I haven't followed it since its unveil but it's like Mass Effect in the Bourne setting of a secret spy agent or something.  duckroll tells me it will be awesome.

So, I decided after farting around in BG2 for a little while that I wanted to replay BG1 even though it's not as good so that I could import my party directly into BG2.  I last played the og BG when it came out, so I am happy as a pig in slop farting around with all of the various mods and shit for it.  The Sword Coast will once again tremble to hear the tales of the adventures of Durp the Cavlier and company!

Bumping 'cause i finally re-installed this and Throne of Bhaal last night and rolled up a character. I installed the Gibberlings 3 fix packs but otherwise it's vanilla. On my previous playthrough, I used a Kensai/Mage dual class char that was just a fucking dual-wielding killing machine. This time I'm going with a straight-up Sorceror for a change, although I expect it to be hard as hell on the earlier levels. I couldn't be bothered rolling for 4hrs to get decent dex etc so stopped as soon as I had 18 for Int and 17 for Wis. Any tips? I'm Chaotic Neutral this time around - last time I was Lawful Neutral and had high Charisma so I expect the roleplaying aspect to be quite different too. :hyper

Pray tell, what is Durp's Int?   :lol

Durp's a paladin- he doesn't need to be smart, he just needs to smite evil.

...it's 12.

After doing some quests I"m gonna help Nalia with her home. Fastest way to get the desired 20k bones. I desperately need fire weapons to kill off the trolls though.

ARRROOOOOO! Night time. :( Trolls. :( Darkness. :(

I hate her, but she's a thief and I need a scout to go invisible and examine the Fog of War. Right now I've got Yoshimo doing it because he's a Fighter/Thief, but, oh well.

Went back to Athkatla for some supplies and to do some quests. Come back and I get jumped by trolls. :(
