yeah, once you get family on there, it's pretty much all over. they start making dumb comments on everything. I pretty much don't use it unless I have to these days, or only to comment on event pages (parties and stuff where no one else can see.)

She already knows I'm on there, and I think you are underestimating how seriously 24 year old girls take their facebooking. She wouldn't drop it. She spends her entire lunch reading and responding to people on there, just about every day.

It isn't her I'm worried about. I doubt she'd care what I wrote. However, she is good friends with the Assistant Property Manager, who is in turn good friends with the Property Manager, who is the person who signs my contract checks. She might show her buddy the APM some crack I write about work thinking it's funny, the APM doesn't see the humor and shows it to the PM, and then all of a sudden I'm a screen capture in a LAWL WATCH WHAT YA SAY ON FACEBOOK HAW HAW thread on a message board somewhere. Or at the very least there is a sudden flood of apartments which require urgent night and weekend painting. I'd rather avoid all that hassle over a stupid social networking site.

So I fixed it. I now have a fake account with which to bullshit with my ebuddies and not have to worry overmuch about what I write, and I am keeping the real one for family updates or whatever other inoffensive crap I feel like posting or responding to on the rare occasion. Problem solved.

I've just told everyone at work that I'll do LinkedIn with them, but Facebook is only used for my classmates and family (and ex-coworkers, but I don't mention that). There may be an option where you can link them then block them from seeing your updates as well, but I'm not that into the facebook-fu.

I signed up for Facebook some time ago, no idea when, but never had the intention to do anything with it. Haven't filled out a profile, haven't uploaded any pictures, haven't friended anyone... it literally just sits there idle.

Anyway, a while back, I started getting email notices of friend requests. Lately, they're coming more and more frequently. All of them are just sitting there unanswered because I don't want to friend anyone, because that would be just inviting more, I would think. And I don't want to reject them all, because I don't want to step on anyone's e-feelings, particularly since a few of them are related to me.

Last week, I got a friend request from my former manager. Now I want to nuke the account.

anonymous, wide variety, not awkward, don't have to consider how others will view it or react (unless you're making friends on them, I guess), people actively post about each topic, and not just reactions and inside jokes (which are fun, but they're fleeting and you burn through them quickly.)
