Melissa Ann Andreini is a 28-year-old special education teacher who taught at the Helper Junior High School in Helper, Utah until about three weeks ago. She resigned her position on August 3, 2009 after an investigation alleging she had engaged in sexual relations with a 15-year-old male student. He is a ninth-grader in her school, but not one of her special education students.

She was charged earlier this week on three counts of third-degree felony unlawful sexual activity with a minor.

The victim told police and a Utah Division of Child and Family Services worker that Andreini would bring coffee to school for him and his friends two or three times a week. They would go by her classroom before school to get the drinks. He also told police that Andreini paid him money after having sex with him in her home on at least three different occasions in June 2009. She is alleged to have given him approximately $500 on each occasion.

Court documents allege she paid him between $1,400 and $1,500 after having sex with him. It does not specify whether she was paying him for sex or paying him to keep quiet about having sex with her.

A probable cause statement, filed in the 7th District Court, Utah alleges that the boy’s mother confronted Andreini at her home on July 3, 2009. She alleges that at that time, Andreini admitted to having sex with her son on several occasions and paying him approximately $1500.

Andreini was booked arrested and booked into the Carbon Country jail earlier this week and released on $10,000 bail. She is scheduled to make her first court appearance before Judge Douglas Thomas in Price, Utah on September 28, 2009.

If convicted of the charges against her, Melissa Andreini faces up to five years in prison on each count.

The money is what probably gave him away. Probably bought some stuff and the parents wondered how he was affording it.

Next week, the kid'll be writing: "Dear Penthouse Forum, I never thought I'd be writing to you but..."

Clearly I need to put more thought into this, but it says a lot about the male psychological model that we'd be willing to string a male teacher up who paid money to an underage girl to sleep with him, but when a female teacher pays a boy to jump her, we're all "OH HELLS YEAH, EXPLODING HIGH FIVE!"

Don't get me wrong: Given the chance at 14~15, I'd have been "having coffee" with the teacher as well, whether or not there was half a G on the bedroom table afterward. Probably would not have been able to keep my mouth shut about it, either. Which is probably what happened with this kid, too.
